What I am is a realist.
It is realistic to expect inappropriate behavior, yes. That doesn't change the fact that some behavior is inappropriate.

I'd be happy to learn about your culture, and allow you do whatever you want on your own private parcels and regions.
Well.... To start, it's not mentioned in the TOS but we're told it is. I've not actually participated in it, but am aware of and have been accused of it. And there's this epic debate both politically and socially on weather or not it's legal in the U.S. =^-^=

SL isn't a church social; it's a game.
SL isn't a game; it's a series of tubes. Full of ferrets. SL isn't an analogy; it's synecdoche. SL is evil and tasty. SL is a platform with a whoopee cushion. SL is a snowmobile racing through the tundra. SL is not a tame lion. SL is here because it's here because it's here because it's here.

SL is a church social, a church antisocial, a socialist paradise, a mirror of capitalism, a simulation of itself, a parody, a trademark of Linden Labs, and five pounds of flax.

. . . nor the fact that you are not the arbiter nor the moral policeman of what is, or is not, inappropriate behaviour.

Pep (Ultimately, your behaviour in SL is only definitively inappropriate if you are successfully ARd)

I see people wearing them a lot in stores just because they think it's fun to have a random title. Including the owner of the store I was in, on more than one occasion. And they're not bondage stores, either. It would never occur to me to assume that someone wearing one was looking for degradation.

Well, when the previous title, before the change was announced, was "XXX Dump" , "XXXX me silly", "Spank my ass", "Slutgirl" or something else along those lines.........it is pretty obvious that they are looking for degradation.

Why is it so hard to understand that if you misread the situation, it might be a good idea to make an apology, back up, and try to start fresh? Titler, or no...it seems like the right thing to do IMHO.

You're not following the thread. I said that Cristalle's idea of appropriate behavior differed from mine. That doesn't mean I'm an arbiter, policeman, judge, jury, scorekeeper, or anything else. It just means that they differ.

The fact that it's a game, or a game in a game, is irrelevant. Even if you apply analogy and synecdoche, it's irrelevant. The fact that our ideas of appropriate behavior are incompatible remains clear.

I've lost track. Are you the OP? Why didn't you go into that detail before?

Not the OP, but every time I have seen one of those "Set my title for me" things those are what was hovering over the person's head.

Clearly our experiences of "those things" are significantly different.

Some people wear collars because they look nice. Others wear them because they include leash scripts and a ponygirl AO. (^_^)

Imnotgoing Sideways has graciously consented to allowing me to implement her Eviler Titler suggestions for a freebie (she's not responsible for the awful name, BTW). I'll add an RLV lock too. Any other ideas folks?

Darn it! Reading this thread yesterday, I was thinking I should go ahead and create an "Eviler Titler" that doesn't say who changed it. Now I really wish I'd done that last night instead of housekeeping and taking out the trash... :(

OK, it turns out the Evil Titler already does RLV locking.

Upon reflection, I'm not going to do the eviler titler myself unless the author of the original one has no interested in the eviler aspects. I don't want to step on her toes, as it were.

Hmmm. I may go ahead and do one, then, as I've thought of a couple of other things to make the matter even more chaotic and less controllable... [evil, sly wink]

OK, Imnotgoing's idea, someone else's existing product, and your desire to do something anyway. I'm washing my hands of this whole sordid affair!

It really is an evil titler, from top to bottom.

As we have already seen here, some people ask for some behavior that would otherwise be "inappropriate." Wearing one of those things is asking for it.

The sim the OP was banned from appears to be on the racier end of the spectrum. Anyone wearing an Evil Titler should expect to get something a little naughtier than they might at The Free Dove.

However, there are also pretty clear instructions on conduct given when you enter the place. Escalating the situation to Drama Queen status is probably not going to go over well there.

Whether or not the title was appropriate, deserved, or whatever, it's not THAT difficult to act in a manner that won't get you kicked out and banned.

Eventually (probably sooner than later) everyone is going to run into a whack-job in SL. If disengaging oneself from them means offering an apology for a perceived slight, do it, and get away from them.

Like I said, we have different ideas of what's appropriate.

Well, to be more exact, it's the IDEA that's in someone else's item; I'll create my own from scratch, of course. Which is a perfectly okay thing to do.

It's rude and offensive to wear something that spams chat asking anyone to give you a title they desire... and being upset it's not one your or those around you like.

I mean come on, you got an attachment that spams local chat saying you want an evil title, someone is going to give ya one.

An adult understands that by wearing such a toy, they are at the mercy of the lowest common denominator in the crowd. To think you will not be is childish at worst or naive at best.

I have to agree with this:

From: Cristalle Karami
The rules are, change the title to whatever you want.

That's it. It's not "read the person's mind and know their sensitivities, and don't hurt their widdle feelings."

and this:

From: MortVent Charron

With one caveat, if it violates TOS/CS or the violates the maturity settings of the land as restricted by LL and/or further restricted by the land owner. In this case the OP does owe an apology imo.

I have to say too that the land owner has a right to ban for any reason, even if they are being the idiot.
I don't think the OP is necessarily owing an apology (see caveat) but agree that if an apology is the condition of the land owner for continued access to their land the the choices are simple even if stupid.

On the upside, the OP knows a bunch of asshats to avoid in future, or conversely the person who banned is free of an asshat depending on what was titled.

For that Eviler Titler, make it play the 'head up the ass' animation.

I think the upper level management Lindens have the patent on that one. They all seem to be using it when they make major decisions.
