Is there a proper place for just talking about SL randomly? Seems those kinds of threads are here, so... Picked up my once-decent Daily Mail today and was confronted with this... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1085536/TOM-RAWSTORNE-Living-Second-Life-fantasy-world-awash-sex-porn.htmlWhich was a side article to this... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1085412/Revealed-The-woman-Second-Life-divorce--whos-engaged-web-cheat-shes-met.htmlTo which I responded to in the comments with... "After reading today's Mail, I have to say SL is a bad place filled by weird people. But in reality, I use it and don't recognise the place reported. This story could have shed a good light and talked about the charities or the educational institutions, including for people with learning disabilities or people making real money that is not connected to adult content. As for the average user, you can find whatever you like (I personally use it as a racing game) - dirty Tom Rawstorne wanted sex apparently. The masses passing judgement without doing their research is one thing, but a reporter doing it is different, and if he HAS done his research and decided to only talk about the bad stuff because he doesn't like Second Life, that's even worse, he's a very bad reporter, and I'm surprised the Mail employ him." I don't believe they'll print what I said, but do feel free to put him straight on a few things, bearing in mind that they do read them first!

And here was my response to him... waiting to see if he approves it too.. Probably wont. Remember when reporters were suppose to investigate their stories and NOT take sides...? From: someone so... we have a newbie... who comes in world, and does a first search for SEX... and then... he is shocked to see what he sees when he decided to go to the one that is advertised as a FREE SEX ORGY?
Come back in world, search for me, and I will show you the REAL SL that is far from the perverted one you searched for in the first place.
Its like a library, if you go there looking for books about sex, and you head for the erotic section... well, dont be surprised. But if you go to the library, and just want to find out all there is... then explore.

I am just disappointed people think the sex side in SL is "bad stuff". Sure there are some very questionable things but over all sex in SL is pretty harmless and more entertaining than most things in SL (my opinion of course).

Too many people think that sex in RL is "bad stuff" so it's only natural they would feel that way in SL.

"There is even simulated paedophilia. Because users can create their computer-generated Second Life character in whatever form they wish (human, robot or even animal), some players have chosen to appear as children - sexually active children." He knows about this presumably because Nera Naughty was full of naked child avatars when he arrived there from OI.

Sex is probably the best thing that ever happened to humanity... how would we reproduce if not?

from the article "I decided to familiarise myself with its features by 'transporting' Tomsen to the ten most popular locations of the virtual universe"
Ten most popular locations? Isn't that the popular places list? How long ago did he do the "research" for this article?

Just wanted to pipe in, as one of the folks who makes "animals" on SL, the Lost Ferals.
We have gone to great lengths (and put up with an incredible amount of abuse, I might add!) to make sure that our product could NOT be "awash with sex".
The AVs are no mod and this is one of the reasons.
All it takes is one story about how some reporter logged on and found someone in a child AV being mounted by a wolf or a tiger, complete with... *ahem* accoutrements, and that's it. Shut down.
Instead, we're hoping that, if someone's looking to do a GOOD story, they'll see our AVs and say "Wow! That's kinda cool! I like it.", rather than "OMG! I SAWED A WUFF WITH A PEENOR! OMFG! TIHNK OF TEH CHILRUNS! YOU IS ALL TEH PREVORTS!"
Anyway... just wanted to pop my two cents in.
(You would, in fact, be amazed at the amount of crap we've taken for this decision, but we STILL think it was the right one... and this story reinforced that, so thanks.)

Sex and porn makes a good news story for a bad newspaper. True, there's not exactly a shortage of sex and porn in SL, and sometimes in places where you don't want to see it, but there's so much else besides that's good clean fun. I'm generally celebate in SL, although I'm not averse to being in various states of undress from time to time, but I don't think SL sex is wrong as long as it's between adults and in an appropriate geographical (or anatomical?!!) place.
