I'm with you Raymond. I'm no forensic scientist or anything but I saw absolutely no evidence that even if the expected CSI newb's did (or eventually do) join the grid in droves that they would have anything remotely resembling a pleasant introduciton to SL anyway. Unimpressive sims, lag, the list goes on. Quite different than the SL depicted in the program and as someone else pointed out - misleading to say the very least.

From: Rioko Bamaisin I was thinking escort..... Pff, those are a dime a dozen, you can't get famous doing that! I've seen dozens of Venuses in my store alone, even though it's PG so I wouldn't expect such visitors ;P Log off! NOW! XD

I liked it and thought it was entertaining. I've seen CSI before (although I don't watch it regularly) and was prepared for the fluff and artistic license. On the down side, there was some misrepresentation about how SL works and I think anyone who got interested in SL because of the show will be a little disappointed when they get here.
The overall concept is a fun one though. Watch crime show, go on-line to "help" solve the crime, watch upcoming episode to see end of story. That's pretty neat.

Just goes to show that CSI is getting desparate for new ideas. Personally I wish the Crime Scene Investigators were sent on a mission to fix SL, not find a killer. The dead body should be easy to find.

I didn't know there was going to be a followup, that's pretty neat. Though you can bet I won't be one of the extras - the post about notecards being handed out mentions that you have to be human, and use one of a pool of provided avatars at that. The only human av I have is Batman. Oh well, I can still randomly show up in the CSI sims as my peacock dragon. It won't get me on TV, but I might frighten some newbies. On the subject of newbies, I feel sorry for those who will sign up thinking they can battle giant skeleton monsters and teleport instantly in a blinding flash of light. Honestly I think it would have been better to use only the real SL. I've seen plenty of amazing, beautiful, silly, and scary things in world, it's not like there were limitations on content to consider.

I'm half way through it now, and while yeah, some of it is a little off, it's still cool to see SL being portrayed with furries and angels and everyone else... not to mention the guy with MS using SL to live a life that he couldn't otherwise have. I think it's pretty good! Hooray for a positive portrayal!

From: Robustus Hax Now people think you prob can get virus off second life... The second I saw that was the way the show was going, I said to myself "oh I bet LL doesn't appreciate THAT little plot twist" They left in the choppy framerates, dorky noob AV choices, bad hair, etc.. Thought it was funny to see his AV having to stand on a pose stand to put on the armor.. lol. ..and the best part: the escaping furry on the hoverboard that went.. what was it? "link dead" or something? LMAO! I thought for sure he hit ban lines or corner-crossed sims before they said he crashed.

ok i'm halfway through it and i gotta say, im enjoying it. it was well done, in spite of what all the forum critics are saying.
ok, i done watchin it. and i was impressed. especially with the way SL was used in regards to the storyline, and the explainations for more common terms. and did the ending imply more to follow? i hope so.
yes you naysayers, it was not what you expected, because you were expecting your version of SL to be used. lets not forget SL is many things to many people.
as for the grid being overwhelmed with newbies named taylor and or venus? i dont see it, at least not until CSINY does another episode.....

As far as TVs represntation of the online world it was unfortunatly better than most.
I do have two big problems with it though, why was everyone in SL from NYC and since when is MS a death sentence? As far as someone having MS goes that guy was not in bad shape yet he bought a gun to end his suffering? I take real offense to persons with MS being portrayed this way. Yes it can often be a debilitating disease but it is far from terminal.

From what I've heard the crime won't be solved until February 2008. That may or may not be the case. I watched it. I only wish my SL worked as well as CSINY's SL worked.

From: AndiCat Noel It was about what I expected . . . except everyone was using voice. I guess it would have been hokey to have everyone typing though. Another thing - that arena/gladiator fight was a bit bizarre. I've never seen anything similar to that in SL . . . perhaps I just don't get around much. I thought they switched to World of Warcraft when we weren't looking. I was afraid the show would make a mockery out of SL. Although we did see the occasional 'eye rolling', it could have been worse. It was alot like the Gladiator Arena at the Roma Sim... I would love to have that giant screen! And the portable keyboard. Is that possible?

I enjoyed the shift between watching a virtual world portrayed on a screen on a fictional TV show on a screen...how many layers of reality is that anyway? I think SL is better than they portrayed it IMHO.

Haven't seen CSI:NY in years, but I thot they did really well - it was different, fun, visually WAY cool, and had a genuine cliffhanger at the end. I think this is a winning episode, despite some issues with believability. The SL portions were better than I expected. It was shown as a fun, sexy, dangerous place where you can escape your physical limitations. That's pretty great positioning. The machinima were well-produced; there was a LOT to recognize. I really did laugh out loud when the 'calling card' script duplicated Sinese's avatar, which turned out to be the ultimate evil. Avatar copybot! O.o! I have to agree that if anyone comes into SL expecting the coolness factor to equal that of the episode, they'll be disappointed. But then again, people KNOW it's tv ... after all, when you go to Miami, do you see the uniformly gorgeous Florida of CSI:Miami? Maybe their expectations won't be that high. From: Dnali Anabuki And the portable keyboard. Is that possible? ?? sure, there are wireless kybds -- Bluetooth! The form factor, tho, was more of a game controller ... which, if you use only voice, might work with SL ...

From: Johan Durant I'm not a fan of using that term as an insult. Cause someone said 'how freaking gay?' So what? Don't be so sensitive. You're diverting from the issue here which is the shows portrayal of sl for slang someone used? C'mon, now!

You had to know they weren't going to portray sl exactly as it is. Like when the guy and female held hands to walk away. Here you can do it but with the pose balls. They're not going to waste time clicking on them. Many shortcuts were taken but that was too be expected.

So what? Don't be so sensitive. As someone who did a lot of freaking at Grateful Dead concerts, I was also very put off by the term. Ask anyone who saw me during the Iko Iko at Charlotte '91...it wasn't pretty.

Gay is a word that a significant number of people use to describe a significant aspect of themselves. When you use the same word to mean something bad how can you not be insulting all those people? And when it's something that so many have been seriously persecuted for how can you not be sensitive?

But about the show. I thought it was a lot of fun and did portray the general flavor of SL. Before the show came on here on the west coast I went over to the CSI starting point I got by clicking the picture on the SL home page. There was quite a crowd and they had way better newbie av's than the ruths we got. Anyway it might just be a coincidence but I had more sales today than I had had for a long time.
