Since our forum grammarian (Lindal) hasn't seen this yet, I'll step in as her assistant. ![]() I think you are referring to "bazaars" in in Egypt where goods are purchased/sold/bartered. Of course some of them may be "bizarre" - but not having been in Egypt I wouldn't know. ![]() Carry on ![]() Having been to Egypt ten times now I can confirm there are bizarre bazaars, but they're actually called souks, not bazaars, in Egyptian Arabic. They're mostly bizarre due to the large amount of half-naked tourists getting fleeced. You can also choose to "change" money on the "black market" that doesn't really exist and bizarrely lose even more.... ![]() _____________________

It's kind of a glitch that can happen not due to anyone's incompetence, but due to technology that doesn't always work the way we would like it to. And so it goes, apology after apology. "It's broke, but thats a good thing that we know it's that dull-garned technology--but that doesn't make us dumb......we're just powerless to fix our mistakes........ "The technology is like a big many headed hydra and izzz to mush fur R noob brains to fixxx, so we just so we default, to the most nooblike state and simply ask, "Can I have your stuff." and No-fault, tech is our "act of god," defense. WE ARE POWERLESS against the pixel and bits!" |

You know he was talking about credit card technology, not Linden Lab's technology, right? Of course he was excusing LL saying that it's all troubled and I'm saying it's only happened to me with LL. This issue of double billing with SL is apparently common, considering the posts I've seen on it here and elsewhere. I've never been double billed before. |

Yeah things go wrong no matter what technology, computers glitches or human error. But he is accessing these services at internet cafes and stealing service from unsecured networks in his neighborhood. Of course that couldn't cause any of his problems.

...stealing service from unsecured networks in his neighborhood... did he really do that too?!? I missed that part. That's far worse than the skanky-ho cyber cafe computer. People intentionally put up open wifi machines with the sole purpose of scanning every packet that goes thru it. And it's even perfectly legal since its their property. (scanning it is legal, using the info is not) Or if it's just an idiot with an open wifi, anyone *else* in the neighborhood could still be eaves dropping. Sending private data over an unknown wifi is by far one of the dumbest things you can do. Downloading pr0nzs maybe, anything w/ a password, bad idea. _____________________

And Now for a Something Completely Different....
05-15-2008 07:20
....while reading this thread I decided to take some common sense security precautions such as changing my pw (which I will now do regularly) and changing my billing method for SL purchases. Another reason for that was because I was getting the foreign transaction fees that would supposedly stop if I entered new billing info.
So, did all that and purchased some lindens to make sure all was working well. Pulled up my bank statement online and saw the transaction as "pending" and a $1.00 USD charge also pending. No clue what the $1.00 charge was for since it was greater than the foreign transaction fees. Waited a few days...still pending. Called my bank. They didn't see the transaction on their end and said the merchant (LL) had apparently not completed the transaction on their end. Just checked it this morning and...both charges have dropped off my account....no funds deducted....but I got the lindens I purchased the moment I paid for them several days ago. Has anyone ever had that happen? I'll wait another day or so then contact LL to let them know. _____________________

It's also possible that when you entered the new payment info they "authorized" a ficticious charge for $1 to test that the information is genuine. By not following thru on the transaction that dollar is never actually fully deducted. Many places use that method to validate financial info. It's quite "standard" tho I'm sure someone will be along momentary to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about.
EDIT: the above is re: Czari edit of the edit: the above post is for Czari, that last snipet is regarding someone else altogether. whoopsi. _____________________

It's Normal

Has anyone ever had that happen? I'll wait another day or so then contact LL to let them know. What happened is normal. When you add a credit card on to your SL account, it pings the credit card with the information you have entered. The reason it does this is to verify that your card is valid and that your information is correct. This is why it can take a few minutes before you can use the card. When it "pings" the credit card, it puts a pending authorization on the card of $1.00. That charge is just temporary and will almost always release on it's own. The purchase you made is completely separate from this, so even though the purchase went through, the pending auth will stay for about 5 days before it drops off. Hope this helps. |

I see a bitter old woman.....
05-15-2008 07:51
And so it goes, apology after apology. WE ARE POWERLESS against the pixel and bits!" You are not paying attention to what anyone else is saying here. I'm not talking about SL, but internet and technology as a whole. You see nothing right with SL. In fact, you seem to have nothing to say but negative things about anyone and anything. Even your somewhat "positive" bones you threw at WOW were lined with "buts" and conditions. You see nothing but what is wrong. I'm here to tell you that says more about you than anyone or anything that you are so disgusted with. I would call you an idiot or something similar out of anger, but I know that is not true. In fact, you are apparently a very unhappy person, and for that I am truly sorry. Are you sure you're not my mother-in-law? We create our reality. How can two people see the same thing and see it so differently? Our egos tell us that it's because we are right and THEY are wrong. This is bullshit. I see SL as something truly amazing and wonderful, and at times I get frustrated with it's problems. Could it be better? Undoubtedly, but then so could I. I find that I'm much happier when I deal with my shit rather than run around and call everyone else idiots that don't agree with my superior wisdom. If SL is so horrible, then maybe you should leave. Or, even better, you could start looking at yourself and figure out why your so damn bitter. Maybe, just maybe, you could entertain the thought that everyone else isn't the problem. If I'm picking an argument with everyone, maybe, just maybe, THEY are not the problem. Most people here are not apologizing for LL. Most people here have admitted to having frustrations with SL and it's problems. Most people here also see some redeeming qualities in this crazy, amazing thing we call SL. Maybe, just maybe, we're not deluded, brainwashed idiots. Maybe, just maybe, we are seeing SL through a clearer and less bitter and jaded pair of glasses. Maybe it's time for you to change your mind about things, and I'm not talking about SL. I'm betting that you're pretty disgusted about most everything, anywhere. |

Of course he was excusing LL saying that it's all troubled and I'm saying it's only happened to me with LL. This issue of double billing with SL is apparently common, considering the posts I've seen on it here and elsewhere. I've never been double billed before. I agree. It sounds like you haven't been double billed before. The issue has been pretty thoroughly explained by people who work within the financial/credit industry. Why wouldn't you give them any credibility when they are calling out their own industry? If anything, they would be motivated to agree with you and blame LL. Your hatred for LL is blinding you to an obvious explanation for the problem you described. It's not a double billing - it's an authorization on the card that is registered differently than the actual charge by the credit card company. That makes it not LL's fault. Listen - you aren't doing well in this argument because of a fundamental flaw in your style of debate. You aren't going for the right spot. Here's some advice. You'll probably ignore it, but if you don't, it will help you a lot. Trust me. I do this for a living. I'm not all biplanes and slut ratings and general goofiness. So I'm taking off my Trout hat and putting on my suit and giving you a quick lesson in winning a war of words. Go for weakness, not strength. Picture your battle the same way a boxer pictures his opponent. If your opponent has a glass jaw but a body that looks like it's made of steel girders, your strategy is to punch him in the head, not the stomach. If you punch him in the body, you're just going to tire yourself out and give him a chance to exploit your weakness, plus, you lose the ability to exploit his weakness. Punch him in the face. Keep punching him in the face until he's lying on the mat sound asleep in a pool of his own blood. It may not be pretty, but you win. Your problem is that you're taking a spaghetti approach. Thow it all against the wall and hope something sticks. You attack LL on EVERYTHING. It makes no difference who makes the claims, how preposterous they are, or what their biases are. If it's anti-LL, you're on board. The problem is that Chaos has zero credibility because of all the crazy stuff he's posted, so having him as a running mate is already costing you credibility points by association. Then you go up against a bunch of people in the credit industry who, because of their jobs have significant credibility. You can't win this argument, and it is hurting your ability to win legitimate arguments. Even if you are right (which you aren't) you have no chance here. You're attacking your opponent's strength from a position of weakness. Go analyze your opponent. That takes way more work than just attacking blindly. LL has severe faults. They have weaknesses that you could easily exploit. Build an argument, be prepared to back it up with legitimate evidence, not just balderdash internet garbage, then attack from a position of strength, not one of weakness. Abandon blind crusades that kill your credibility in legitimate fights. There. Class over. Go forth and wage war effectively. I'm going back to slutty pics and flirting with the beauties of RA. _____________________
