I love emo hitler pictures..I really do.

I admire his prudent approach to fiscal planning.

She's saying that since they're addicts, might as well keep them addicts and have them work online, since they won't change anyway. Oh, and also she's probably saying something about society as a whole not changing any time soon.

Hell if I could make a living online with the same ease as 'the real life', I would in a heartbeat. SL is already my only social life to speak of... be cool if it was my job too.

And I'm not an addict. I'm a Lifestyler ;)

Gaming addicts would only find something else to keep them in their parent's basement. If it weren't WoW it would be D&D or paedophilia or neo nazism. Or they'd become real life furries. The kind of people this happens to were never going to be useful to society anyway.

In the past there were game addicts, but the games didn't inherently require endless hours to play.

Today the games require endless hours. You can't even tie your shoes in Warcraft or Second Life in less then an hour.

I truly admire Hitler's dedication.

How many people think 'Hey I don't like these people, they should all go away', and then attempt to make it happen?

Okay then. I'll come round to refill your trough and swab you down with a rag on a stick once a week then. That do you?

this goes back to my orignal point...in order for this to be a reliable place to work, it can't be flakey and dumb and run by geek anarchists, and a haven for scammers and corruption.

Most people talk a good game, but I admire people that don't talk about things but actually go out and do it.

I also admire his self loathing. "Hey, I'm short, dark haired, dark eyed and part Jewish. I suck so bad. Look at those groovy tall blonde doods. Man, they're awesome!"

Thank God for the scammers and geek anarchists preventing your horrific nightmare future from ever coming to fruition then. You'll have to get your own rag on a stick.

Waaaait a minute... last I checked, you kept saying that LL should completely get rid of the Linden Dollar, because it causes all sorts of Strife and angst. Now you're saying that people should be trying to make a living here in SL because they're too addicted to do anything else?

I'll think about mine when you think about yours. A scammers paradise is preferable to your horrifying vision of millions of people living their lives in SL while their bodies rot away.

Is that what you want? Because that's what's going to happen.

Yes and no. There are people who genuinely believe that Second Life is the future of human interraction. Any sensible person should be terrified by this prospect. These are the people who use the word "metaverse" without even a hint of irony. The kind of people who use the word "paradigm" because they heard Big Phil say it once despite the fact that they don't know what it means.

The Matrix trilogy were shit films, but let these people have their way and that could be our children's children's future.

Okay, perhaps not quite - but it's certainly not a healthy route to be going down.

As I also said. People can pay in real money. With a strong community standard and bannable offenses and obviously a very strong anti-scamming policy and totally tight security. If it's serious place for money then it have to be built seriously secure.

As long as the linden can be cashed in, it will open up SL to real life issues and legal realities, that people seem to like to turn a blind eye to.

And I am just speaking in a practical sense, because this is the direction the young people are taking and young people are the core of a socieity.

And whatever young people do, adults whose job it is to teach them how to grow and be adults themselves should encourage. Obviously.

Well, actually, it's an analogy. An analogy is when one uses another object or situation as a representation of the object or situation under discussion in order to illustrate the point - whether to support it or to highlight it's flaws. In the case of simile, it may be used for neutral comparative purposes.

What I did there, you see, was to take your suggestion that people doing something unhealthy should be encouraged and have it made easier for them, and suggested another situation where an unhealthy and undesirable behaviour was encouraged. Then the reader, seeing how absurd the situation I created was, would draw parallels with your suggestion and realise how absurd that is too. It's a basic technique of satire. Satire does not have to be subtle, or even particularly clever, in order to be effective.
