From: Chris Norse Even worse Conan, she is a social worker. Out to save all those who are to stupid to take care of themselves.(This includes everyone but her.) If only we would follow her noble vision, her brilliant plans, her great wisdom, then this would be a better world. We'd all have jobs that fed off of our addictions, in direct contradiction to every single medical expert and addiction specialist's advice EVER in the history of medicine. But you're right. Where do I sign up for a job tending bar in a casino? You know me...

It's a well known fact that, in any given society, social problems increase to occupy the total number of social workers available. Hence the reason why they are always busy, but achieve nothing and help nobody. Social workers would most certainly have been on the Golgafrincham B ark.

I've heard similar statements made of lawyers. i.e. that legal problems increase to occupy the total number of lawyers available. Unfortunately neither are really true. It's nasty and does little to one's credit to make such broad sweeping generalizations denigrating an entire profession, especially one like "social workers" which covers a broad array of professions, so maybe we should stop the flaming of professions? On a lighter note a joke: A small farming community in Kansas where the young leave town ASAP and the old folks meet mornings at the local cafe only had one lawyer who was barely scratching out a living. Then one day something wonderful happened - another lawyer moved into town. Those fortunate people never knew they had so many legal problems.

Hey Conan; we here in the US can go to freecreditreport.com to get our own credit report; just curious if that works in the UK, since that website pulls from Experian, Equifax, and that one that starts with a "T".

There are constant ads being sent out on Facebook to get a free Experian credit report. Following the link takes you to Experian's website, where you have to register. Registration includes giving a credit or debit card number. I am naturally suspiscious of any organisation that offers something for free but then asks for a credit card number all the same. That website might work. As it happens, Experians servers are in the USA - including the UK servers.

The short of it is, signing up for their website is signing up for a credit monitoring service. They give you "free" access to your credit report as part of the trial membership. But it's one of those jobbies were if you don't cancel it on the forth blue moon in julebruary it will automatically bill your monthly subscription fee to that CC, "for your convenience".

I don't get why this discussion has gotten to be all philosophy and social commentary.
The real problem is LL wont give SL the same level of User Name/Password protection other online places/websites do.
I know the User Name of every single person that has posted on this thread. So all I would need is to figure out your passwords.
LL keeps all these people's Payment details on file with no further verification needed for additional purchases BY DEFAULT.
There is very little limit to how much money you can spend in Second Life.
I have never seen any place where you are charged money online with such a lax system.
---------------- PS what would WoW do is irrelevant on this issue - they dont sell WoW gold on the WoWex, they dont sell land, they dont have tier fees.

wow this has gone on a bit, anyway what a shit weekend with no elecy, i know there was some not so nice replies here, i hope those people experience this, and have all there info stolen and used against them, to the kool ppl, take ur bank details offline ASAP and use paypal instead.
my bank is taking this very seriously and LL is getting investigated for not replying or contacting me, and blatently just "dissabling" my other (main) account without any notice. it makes them look so suspicious

Past examples of that sort of attitude are a large part of the reason you haven't gotten more sympathy now.

LL locked down the account before you noticed & reported it to them?? Or did you not check the history once you noticed something strange?
This is one of the accounts you tried to login from at an internet cafe, right?

Guess you never hit one of those Amazon "quick buy" buttons before. ------- I haven't played wow so I decided to check out that last bit. I was duly impressed they seem to have scrubbed eBay pretty clean. I can only assume this is due to an agreement between Bliz and eBay. There are still hardware designed with game req's in mind, the game itself, and user made how-tos. So it's not a (tm) thing, but there seems to be no ingame digitals. However, a quick google check restored my faith in humanity The current going rate is about $5USD for 1000 WoW Gold, items ARE available for direct purchase, however the preferred method is something called Honor Powerleveling. I don't play the game so maybe I've got this wrong, but it looks like you pay USD to some random 13yo who sits around playing *your* char on WoW all day leveling up and collecting juicy items while you go to work. Ingenious lil buggers those chair bound losers. But they're "honorable" tho, how cute. Oh, and can someone who's played it explain to me what this Auction House is I've seen mentioned several times??? oh and Bliz sells the Game and then charges you a monthly fee for the privilege of using it. How is that any different than buying land/paying tier other than terminology? You can have a landless av with as much stuff as you can carry for FREE on SL as long as you like. How far do you get for free on WoW? A 30 day trial I think?

I did not wish for the hornet to go sting him. I killed it. You informed LL your account had been compromised. OF COURSE THEY LOCKED IT DOWN. Yes all of them since if one of your accounts has been compromised there is a high risk the others may have been too. LL don't know which or how many of your alts you attempted to log into from Skanky-Ho Internet Cafe. That's to prevent any further abuse of it, durrrr. It's a preventative measure for their, but mostly YOUR protection.

There is no space in secondlife.com A few others mentioned charges on the bank statement from SL. Is it listed as SECOND LIFE.COM or SECONDLIFE.COM? there are two fraudulent charges total? For the same amount of 307.03 pounds? That does not compute with standard "drain the account" algorithms unless the available balance is known. That sounds like the 5/1 is a rebill of something on 4/25 or an INSF rebill. The exchange rate for GBP to USD on 5/1 closed at 1.97190 according to one source I found. An exchange rate should be very accurate. The EUR was 1.2 something. I figure XR must be exchange rate, any guesses what CD is? I know that's not 5,000 Canadian Dollars What other currency would be about twice a British pound? That would be a big clue where the money went.

It's actually a Blizzard ToS violation to buy WoW gold or to use a power leveling service. Actually, most of those are run by companies in China who pay their employees a pittance to play WoW all day, and then charge those who use their services $99 or so to level them from 1-70. As far as the Auction House, there are items within WoW -- weapons, armor, all sorts of things -- that are considered highly desirable. There's an in-game auction house system where you can put items up for sale that you have received. I'm currently saving up for my "flying mount," i.e. a creature I can ride that is capable of flight and much faster than any of the ground mounts. The Auction House is a great way to generate the gold needed for this sort of purchase. P2

P2 interesting. ty. so assuming one is willing to toss TOS out the window, one could buy gold off this "black" market then, but use it ingame to heavy handed bid for desirable legit ingame content such as a gryphon?
