From: Sling Trebuchet This is interesting: "A 13 year old from Texas who ..................., has today been convicted of fraud and given a three year community order."
Just that bit - "13 year year old"..."convicted of fraud".
If a minor can be held accountable for their actions with a credit card, why then can they not be held accountable for their actions when claiming to be 18+ when signing up on the Adult Grid? Shh! I've said that before and been told it's linden labs problem to keep them out and kids shouldn't get in trouble for doing things like that

I've said that before and been told it's linden labs problem to keep them out and kids shouldn't get in trouble for doing things like that So the 13 year-old is the victim of a miscarriage of justice. He was in no way at fault. It was entirely the fault of the credit card company. Let's organise a petition to have this injustice reversed!!!!!

Finally I got the video.. hmm.. ok..Yes, I agree. SL needs to take steps to keep those damn kids offline. But, it starts out as a new website (or whatever they said) correct me if I am wrong but SL has been around for years? Many stories such as this has occured, so this is not new to anyone.
Please stop group iming this subject as well. I must have had 6 come in today, right before I rezzed my gosh dern box of boxed purchased stuff that would not rezz and is gone from my fkin inventory, just to find out after trying to relog that SL is fkin down for those damn monkies to bang shift ctrl.

Hmmmm . . . According to Kirk, SL "teaches kids some of the worst lessons they could possibly learn". End of story.
My advice is this -
1) Parents, keep your kids off SL 2) Oh, and ever heard of MySpace?
Just about everything in this world is going to have positive and negative attributes. As in RL, SL has its good and bad. Perhaps you can monitor your kids' computer time a bit more with blocks on your computer - ever think of that? It's a bit like trying to buy alcohol if you're underage. SL specifically states adults only. Can't get any plainer than that.

Precisely Sling. The really ironic thing about all this, which I mentioned earlier, is that for minors, one of the most dangerous social networking sites is MySpace. Which is interesting that the congressman and the Fox News reporter aren't targeting that site. Could it be because MySpace is owned by Fox? No conflict of interest there, right?

Poor kid, his dad was to busy to remember his son's birthday, so the kid commits credit card fraud and Dad's going to make everything alright by taking the boy to Disneyland. With a parent like that it's a good thing he wants to be a politician; by the time he grows up he'll have a hard time making it in the real world.

From: Macphisto Angelus Comedy Gold: So.. it was not wonky that they were kids.. but that they wanted to play Halo instead of screw. PURE comedy gold. OH, I see.. they believed the story the kids gave them that they were stunted in growth and were circus performers. Hookers, video games and stolen cash. I like this kid's style. Well - this is sort of the point that a lot of people are making in this thread. If that kid's parents had been in better control of him the way they should have, he never would have been able to pull this off, and if they had raised him properly, it never would have occurred to him to try. It's not VISA's fault, it's his parents' fault.

QFT and Journalists and politicians are more interested in sensationalist headlines than educating the electorate or themselves.

From: Holocluck Henly I sent this:
Sexual deviation such as child pornography and rape exist in many cybersocial platforms on the Internet, and it is an issue. Just like in the physical world, it is not in plain sight but if someone had a stong enough interest, they could track it down. But to give the impression that Second Life is a blatant hotbed of illegal and abusive sexual activity is an insult to Linden Labs and those hundreds of thousands of members you mentioned log in each day, the vast majority of whom do not fit the impression you've made of them on America in your broadcast.
It's very easy to target Second Life, but it is NOT a site for kids. This is very clear during sign up. To target a nonapplicable site as an example to address a real issue is suspicious if not counterproductive. It is a very exploitative move. AOL would be a better target since there is no age restriction to visit that site and its chatrooms, but we know who owns them.
You might also want to suggest to Congressman Kirk that, instead of launching a witch hunt, his efforts would be better put AND in US citizens' best interest to pursue legislation which requires age verification for sites with mature content when an account is created. RIGHT ON! I hope they actually read these!

Why are YOU watching FOX News?
05-12-2008 13:11
This is it simply. Why would any free thinking person watch Fox News? Seriously people come on everyone know they are just the mouth of Saron.(sp) That's like getting spiritual advice from Pat Robertson.

From: 3Ring Binder that's the parent's fault, not SL. Silly! This is the USA! Parents dont have to take responsibility for their kids as long as they find a convenient scapegoat.
