I can't get the video to run, but I assume there are at least six exploding vans, several mentions of terrorists and words like "Death", "Kill", "Die" highlighted and frequent attempts to blame Linden Labs for parents being unable to proper monitor their children on the internet - blaming society for their own failings as parents.
Plus the heroic congressperson vowing to save our children.

Well... who the hell watches and believes FOX anyway?
The poorly researched 30 second 'report' , will only be taken seriously by thick individuals who learnt about the 'interweb' three weeks ago.
This is reminiscent of the fox news report on "Anonymous" the "Hackers on Steroids"

Unfortunately, quite a few people. Largely the kind of people that elect politicians that pursue stuff like this :(

Yup. There's a lot of those people out there, too, and a large percentage of them vote the same way :(

I can see it now... that rape room is going to have an advertisement on it's wall that says 'as featured on Fox News!'

Someone should remind Rep Kirk that no one can actually get sexually raped in SL. Or killed or molested.

Short and sweet ... parents need to be parents and watch their children at all times online regardless of their age. Why would you allow your child to play any "game" if you hadn't researched it yourself properly. I mean .. does anyone talk about the amount of cybersex that happens in WOW...i bet alot of parents of their 15 year old boys playing that game think it is just about battles ... *Rolls eyes*

Secondly and what i find frustrating and isn't constantly reminded to non computer people, in SL you are a pixelated person so YOU aren't getting hurt ect ect .. BUT like anywhere in the web .. if you get into a situation that makes you uncomfortable you can LOG out and go back to playing solitare on the desktop. Or better yet ... turn the computer off and watch Little House on the Praire re-runs.

So far, this is the most "Fair & Balanced" reporting I've ever seen from Fox.

I dont know if any of you saw this from FoxNews, but after watching this video, Im extremely pissed off! I mean, if my grandma saw this news video, she'd think I was playing a game with rape and child porn! This is an outrage! Where did these people go in SL? And WHY were they in that area to begin with! OMG..I want to choke this guy! Is anyone going to stand up to them?

It makes good news. Shrug. Frankly, with the way SL is performing atm I'd be far more worried about SL ruining SL than anything else.

Er, no... it wasn't anywhere near so interesting as that.

Okay, I'll admit it - I used to take FOX News seriously. I knew they were a bit unbalanced, but I figured that underneath the spin, the truth could be found. But this story? "A new website"? "nearly 13 million users visited every day"? Shoddy research, which is completely unacceptable for a major news agency - your average high school student could write a more accurate report without even having to go into SL. Entirely propaganda from the congressman whose view is being supported here.

I guess I'll be having to go elsewhere for my news, since who knows what else they aren't researching at all before they report it?

Apart from the obvious flaws of the BRIEF story, kids aren't permitted in SL any way. If parents raise their children to be mindful of ANY dangers, and if LL prevents children from accessing SL, then all is as it ought to be.

Demonizing a new "craze" is nothing new. D&D, the Internet, Chat rooms -- all have suffered similar media hype.

Besides, people have short attention spans -- even if they do get outraged, it's unlikely any will take action because it's always someone else's problem.

Did I just agree with a conservative politician?

Yes.. *offers brain bleach* I agree, I want the kids off SL. I just think that LL has done as much as is reasonable, and the rest are up to the parents.

Indeed, but many want to see far more invasive and overblown registration schemes.

Basically making it LL's sole responsibility to keep the innocent children out

doesn't matter what many want to see, or who they blame so they don't have to accept responsibility. they should be monitering their own children. no parent is perfect, but paying attention is a good first step. excuses in contrary are all lame.

It was about children being able to easily get adult content on the SL adult grid.......and that is a fact. I applaud FOX News for the exposing a very troubling flaw in how SL is operated..........we need a full blown news investigation in fact. Seems LL will not do anything until forced to do it.........and FOX is big enough in the news business to do that forcing.

maybe if you take the computer with internet access out of your child's room until they are 18, this won't be able to occur. start with your own family, then point fingers when things go wrong (but they won't, cuz you'll be watching and *coff* "parenting";).

These are all great comments and essentially correct but it won't make any difference in a world where perception is reality and the media controls perception.
Congressmen+media during election year = trouble.

There is no political advantage in supporting SL & the fact that any candidate/politician campaigns here will be used against them. Bad sign.

I am predicting that the pendulum is swinging and the perception that SL is a XXX place will win out and will cause a near death experience.

What is needed is a media campaign by LL (and any of us residents who have the access to media) to begin to create another perception that puts the XXX part into perspective, ie, like as in RL, there is XXX content, but there is so much more, etc.

Won't happen unfortunately because LL closes barn doors after the horses have not only left but lived long lives.

all you just did was rationalize lazy parenting. it's not the media or SL's fault. accept it and quit blaming everyone else for bad parenting.

I think we have another politician, with a self-serving political agenda, who thinks he's found the next "hot spot".
