From: Mickey Vandeverre Half of those weren't your thoughts....but ALL of them were directly written to you....and you responded in the same exact way over and over again.
And all of them were posts, as I said. From: someone Based on that....No way would I risk going inworld and sending you an IM. No way. I just got off that roller coaster ride with a few others. Not doing that again.
I doubt I'm the only one in SL town....that would avoid that at all cost. Exactly. So anything you say about how things I do would be accepted is all just saying "well, someone else would". You're sending me the loneliness pamphlet. Of course I'm not going to react happily to that.

From: Yumi Murakami Yes, it would stay on his hard disk - and thus he wouldn't have in-world it either. Within the virtual world, you would have the best available. Except it wouldn't be the best. I wouldn't have Wildehonde and Kani and Bunkie Ferrets, I'd have Matty Bear and lump it. Everyone would have Matty Bear. From: someone That's a feeling people like. That's a feeling *some* people like. I don't want a virtual world run by Diana Moon Glampers.

How are WoW or ATITD or anything similar run on those terms? And, if this is true, what about your own comments regarding sculpties?

From: Yumi Murakami How are WoW or ATITD or anything similar run on those terms? Read Vonnegut's story "Harrison Bergeron". They're run by the Handicapper General. Nobody can fail because nobody can be better than everyone else. It's all about play balance. SL isn't about play balance, it's about letting people be all they can be. THAT is what makes it a "virtual world", not just a "game". From: someone And, if this is true, what about your own comments regarding sculpties? What? I don't like the way they're implemented? I don't get everything I want? Yeh, Linden Labs doesn't dance to my pipes. I deal with it.

It's all about play balance. SL isn't about play balance, it's about letting people be all they can be. THAT is what makes it a "virtual world", not just a "game". Right. But the opposite side of that is that it lets many people find out that "all they can be" isn't much. That can be an outright painful experience. It may be virtuous or even necessary, but it certainly isn't going to sell.

Of course I'm not going to react happily to that. I'm sending you a kick in the ass to Wake Up. I don't do touch-feely-coddly. How much clearer could that message be? And I'm only taking time to do it now....because the weather just messed up my next hour. Every time I enter into your threads....I feel like a guinea pig in a cage with a dozen others....that is being manipulated by a rather intelligent scientist. I feel like you know exactly what to do to get out of your rut. But that you're getting off on this in some fashion, or you would not continue to use it....it's working for you. You're getting a benefit from it, at the expense of others' time. Not sure if it is Comfort or Entertainment. I personally, feel a manipulation thing going on there. I come back and enter in....because it's rather intriguing....and boggles my mind. That's all a personal opinion. But you had 400 posts to tell me how YOU feel. I'll take a few for myself.

I know what I could do to build things. I have no idea what I could do to win anyone back. But I also know that the sandbox guy got luckier than me. I also know that someone else could give me that experience, but they choose not to. They have the right to choose that way, yes. But from the fact they make that choice, I conclude: if they have no interest in me, why would making anything change that?

From: Yumi Murakami Right. But the opposite side of that is that it lets many people find out that "all they can be" isn't much. That can be an outright painful experience. It may be virtuous or even necessary, but it certainly isn't going to sell. And yet there are people who are attracted to an environment where they can be all they can be. They are attracted to sports, businesses, worlds, where there's an actual risk of losing. I'm not talking about rock climbing and NASCAR, I'm talking about... oh, golf. Not everyone can be Tiger Woods. Some people don't always win, and some people never even beat par. But somehow golf still "sells".

Sure, but they don't have to play against Tiger Woods every time they go to the links. SL's global market makes sure that they do - one of the unfortunate consequences of the Global Village. Also, most people who are attracted to that kind of environment are likely to be doing that in the real world, where the rewards are greater. Think about what I'm going to conclude about the reason you are discussing this with me.

From: Yumi Murakami I know what I could do to build things. I have no idea what I could do to win anyone back. Build things. If they don't work, build something else. If that doesn't work, build something else. If that doesn't work, see line 1. Eventually you'll make something that's good, interesting, faddish, fantastic, cool, popular, successful, or otherwise breaks you out of the rut. YOU will be someone else, then. You'll be amazed how that changes the way people react to you.

From: Amaranthim Talon What sand box guy?
You want a place to build? Is that it? If that's it- come to my workshop- you can build- i have cool tools you can use if you dont have them- you want me to help you in my sloppy way to align a prim - sure - you want me to do it for you or listen to how i shd convince you of something? No- but if you want to build - i will build with you - At the risk of being terribly gauche and quoting myself I would like to point out I just invited Yumi to build with me and she has ignored said invitation - caveat- not tonight though Yumi, I am busy- but I will leave time for you tomorrow night should you care to join me -

SL's global market makes sure that they do - one of the unfortunate consequences of the Global Village. Bullshit. I've seen some of the best products in SL, and in a lot of categories the best products are ... mediocre at best. There just aren't that many Tiger Woods out there. So, no, you're not going up against Tiger Woods every time. You *are* going up against Yumi Murakami. And you know what? She's kicking your butt. From: someone Think about what I'm going to conclude about the reason you are discussing this with me. That I'm not Tiger Woods?

Gosh - I don't think I have a booklet.
Somehow I learned to be a friend before I could learn to read. And if I slipped up....I got a kick in the ass.
There was a booklet???

If they're mediocre products that sell, they're Tiger Woods as far as marketing. Plus, if they've sold, the market is gone. As for "Yumi Murakami kicking my butz", that's controlled by SecondLife.exe, too.

Heck you have been in world longer then me. I should be accusing you of not helping me enough. How come you haven't fixed all my SL problems?

From: Yumi Murakami If people wanted me to build, why wouldn't they have helped me years ago? I didn't say "people want you to build". I said "people are going to be more interested in the Yumi who's not in that rut you're wallowing in." Get out of it. You're blocked on building? Beat that block down.

From: Yumi Murakami Plus, if they've sold, the market is gone. The market doesn't vanish when someone buys something. I have several ferret avatars. I don't need six different ferrets. I just bought them because the new one was better.
