As I've said... posting about the insecurities is going to be a waste of time, because by doing so - rather than giving actual practical help - you just confirm the insecurities. That's not me trying to be rude, it's just me stating the reality of the situation.

If someone says they can't make friends.. how do you solve their insecurity - argue with them for 4 hours about why it doesn't matter or why they can... or be their friend? If you choose to argue, it can only be because you don't want to be their friend.. which proves them right.

Don't you dare tell me that I have not tried to help you. Don't you dare.

She didn't say 'because you dared ask for help'. She said because you shot down the offers of help and ideas you've gotten.

Because they weren't really there.

Most of the messages from others have been "you can do this", "you have no guarantees", "it's what we did" - all of the stuff telling me to ignore the current negative situation and go ahead anyway. Nothing actually putting me in a more positive situation, such as an invite.

Whimsy's post is a classic example. She said that she "had considered helping me out" but she only mentions that now that she's decided NOT to. If she had really wanted to do that, why wouldn't she have said "IM me and I'll help out" in her previous message?

I think I saw a classic post on a newsgroup that related to this once, which in turn came from a comic:
CALLER: I'm desperately lonely. I haven't seen anyone in months.
TV HOST: Well, you're in luck! We'll be sending you this guide on "How to cope with loneliness!"
CALLER: But I don't want to cope with loneliness, I want to not be lonely. Won't you be my friend?
TV HOST: Of course not! You're a loser who hasn't seen anyone in months!

That's a shame that you didn't see them. That's a shame that you can't even acknowledge all the time a group of people spent to respond to you.....even if you didn't like the responses.

From my schooling....you would get a kick in the ass for that. I'm glad I was raised that way. I'm sorry that however you were raised has you in such turmoil at the moment. I do have empathy for that. I don't have empathy for lack of gratitude...from reading your posts, you seem to have enough sense to learn the concept of gratitude.

Bovine Excrement! what she said was:

From: Whimsically
My partner and I try to help out lots of people in different small ways. I even considered offering what small assistence I could to you on several occasions, but after seeing you basically malign the people who have tried to help you, I would rather not.

You conveniently left out the part where she mentions the OBVIOUS TO EVERYONE BUT YOU part where you trash people for trying to help you - I met you in-world; I heard the first story, I tried to tell you to do somethng else or the same thing but just do it- All you did then was the same thing you are doing here - throwing one after another barrier as to why not- You say earlier what are you supposed to do? Learn to build for two years? Damn straight, learn to build and stop whining about it- People have done their level best to offer you HELP - note the word HELP- it means assistance- assistance means you need to do for yourself. You seem to want to be led about guided to done for then praised to high heaven for your efforts. It doesn't work that way! Hey - know what - I built a really cool thing - and i put it on Xstreets- know how many have sold? Exactly ZERO! Am I losing sleep over it? No- I did it, it was fun and I am doing another one- cause i want to. If people like it and get it fine if not oh well-

~~

Well crap i done gone and posted.

Oh, I do acknowledge the time they spent towards the start of the threads. That was great and kind of them. That said, I will not acknowledge that I'm being treated the same as the sandbox luck person, because I'm not. Most of them have never met me in-world or seen anything I've made. I am still grateful for what was done, but I am not going to agree that "we've done all this therefore you are not ignored" because the scales are different.

But I stop at points when I've asked for other information, and yet they continue posting along the first track, not posting the information I asked for. And I definitely explode when they continue on that track, in spite of what I've said, and then when I don't respond to it, blame me and tell others not to help me as a result.

And I'm grateful for the fact that you met me. But
a) if it's correct that I ought to try, then you should be able to argue down all the barriers, because the truth must win the argument eventually; and
b) just saying "do it" isn't necessarily persuasive (Coke ads don't just say "DRINK COKE";) and so other methods of persuasion could have been used.

Look Yumi - we al have walls - barriers- what have you- the hardest to get past those barriers is our selves. It is no one's respnsibility to convince you of anything- face it - none of us is that invested - hell if you can't do it for yourself why should anyone else?

Alright- you want to build - have you got some small skills yet? Take those and go to a class- if you need some more self paced the Ivory Tower is perfect- I am sure you know the basics at least - alignment? I cant do math to save my life - i just read the numbers and guesstimate back and forth before i get it right - i amsure there are thousands of builders a hell of a lot more capable than i - you just keep plugging at it- and one day- there is that eureka moment.

I told you even in that other thread of yours to try and live possitive for a period of time- dollars to donuts you didnt try -

Defeat your own barriers Yumi- we cannot do it for you.
We can HELP but only you can DO.

No, it's worse because it means someone else makes themselves a beautiful black-backed jackal avatar, chooses not to sell it, and then everyone else can never, ever have an equivalent.
Yeh, I really wish I could have Basil's numbat avatar, but I can't. I have to satisfy myself with the THREE HUNDRED OTHER avatars I *can* have. How can I possibly deal with the disappointment?

Satch Flan has made hundreds of amazing avatars, and finally after several years has put half a dozen up for sale. I immediately bought three. Am I mad at him for not selling the rest? Well, yeh, I am a bit, but if this was ATITD I wouldn't have any of them. five percent is way better than none.

I have no idea where you got that out of what I said. As god is my witness, really, I can't. What are you saying? That I should be able to have Basil's numbat avatar whether he wants me to or not? In a world that worked that way, would I even have that option, or would his numbat stay on his hard disk?

Yes, it would stay on his hard disk - and thus he wouldn't have in-world it either. Within the virtual world, you would have the best available. That's a feeling people like.

now your speaking for all mainstream people. I thought you were a programmer. That is not what I would call a mainstream person. I think I am very much a mainstream person. Just an office worker. No special computer or graphic skills. Not much of a techie. Very much a consumer.

I like SL!!!! I love SL!!!! With all its problems.

The reason I won't offer any help Yumi is because I don't think I could help to your. I could be a friend. I could offer my perspective. I could even help a bit with building. I don't think you would be satisfyed. You haven't so far been satisfyed with anyone elses assitance.

I have to "speak for all mainstream people" because if it was just me why would anyone care?

How in the world can you say I couldn't possibly be satisfied with that kind of assistance when nobody here has ever met me in-world and if they had, you wouldn't know how I'd responded, because it would have been in-world rather than on a public thread?

Well Amara just said she met you in-world, but you responded that she should have used some other persuasions than whatever she did use, and.........no you are saying nobody ever met you in-world.

I haven't met lots of the Forum regulars in-world. The few I've met have been mostly at the Hangout, at parties, gatherings, or occasionally at their businesses, where I go to see what it is that they mentioned on the Forums. When I do walk into the Hangout, although I am shy, I arrive assuming people will be civil and glad to see me and they are. Like JoJo said to have a friend, be a friend.

No- but if you want to build - i will build with you -

Yes they were.

I'm talking about posts directly related to this problem of yours...there were over 500 in that one thread, I think...there are 270 here....50 to 100 in some other threads....all the exact same issue.....

Half of those weren't your thoughts....but ALL of them were directly written to you....and you responded in the same exact way over and over again.

Based on that....No way would I risk going inworld and sending you an IM. No way. I just got off that roller coaster ride with a few others. Not doing that again.

I doubt I'm the only one in SL town....that would avoid that at all cost.
