Direction, percieved unfairness, and the mainstream

I do not know.

I assume i do not get IMs for a number of reasons. I look pretty radical. Many people take a negative view of the amount of facial pierces and tattoo's i have. Many people have a negative opinion about all face pierces. Some people look at me and figure i have put a lot of time into my avatar and that most likely makes me a snob, or conceited or unapproachable in general...

I am not sure....besides Nina, Vaelissa, and Stacy no one IMs me. I do not hold it against people. I just try and go out of my way to get out more and maybe make some more friends by going to different events/functions.

I kind of think a lot of people in SL have this experience, as i would rather not go down the 'woe is me', 'what is wrong with me', path..

Maybe i am wrong.

I don't have nor have ever had a group of friends to build with either. All I create is done in isolation. I too teleport places and am often ignored by the people there. This is what I mean when I say the assumptions that are derived from Yumi's observations are faulty.

And if I couldn't get away with nibbling toes, I wouldn't come onto the forums and talk about how I couldn't do something I really wanted to do, I'd DO SOMETHING ELSE.
I didn't because you're a human and I have no ide how to make a good human avatar.
I don't use any of those tools, and I rarely have to enter five digit numbers to align prims, they just line up for me without trying. I don't KNOW why you have problems.
And it doesn't. You don't need to do a new build at all. You can do something else. I did.

If you can't be with the build you love, love the build you're with.

As long as SL is made of people, it's going to have the same problems as everything else that's made of people. If you want something that's not made of people, but is instead made of code, you're wasting your time in any essentially social environment, game, plorg, glooble, wakalix, or quork.

But you can get away with nibbling toes, and you have no idea that I couldn't get away with what I do want to do. Yet for some reason you are telling me to give up before I have ever tried.

*nod* Nonetheless, it is somehow possible to socially promote a new build, because people do it. So why tell me to do something else rather than saying how to do that? And if you personally don't know, that's ok, but I mean the whole forum community - after all, anyone could have replied to that message.

Many other things with people in don't have these problems. They manipulate the people.

We've told you why. In detail. You just keep coming back doing the thing that doesn't work over and over again. You're doing it now.

Because you told me what was wrong with what I was doing, but not what to do instead.

There is an assumption here that you would benefit from re-examining.

99% of the IMs I get go like this:

"Hey, someone gave me one of your scripts and it doesn't work can you help me for free?"

Somehow I survive this crushing blow to my ego.

If the process of building or creating an avatar could cause people to stop ignoring me, then I would have controlled them - which Arilynn specifically said could not be possible.

They're not made of people, they're made of the code that implements the manipulation. The people are just extras.

I've told you lots of things to do instead. You come back and complain that I'm telling you to give up.

So I gave up.

You've said, DO SOMETHING ELSE. You also gave me a list of things, but although some of them sounded interesting, none of them solves the problem of being ignored. I don't see the fun in building a lighthouse with a maze in it if nobody else is ever going to see it.

And so we come back to the starting point once more with Yumi none the wiser. I wonder why, perhaps it is because she is looking for her answers in the wrong place and pointing the finger at things that are not to blame for her troubles.
Yet she does not think to herself after all these forums posts, "this is not working maybe I should try something different" (such as seek help in RL, hint, hint), no she continues hitting her head against the same wall over and over again. There is only one reason people do this, because it pays off. They get to play the eternal helpless victim and when new people read their posts and are not aware of the posting history, it also gets them sympathy. This kind of pay off is easier than stopping her repetitive behaviour and really trying to solve her problems.

Again, it's you who hasn't posted information. You haven't said how a new place could be socialised, you haven't given any of the actual information I've asked for. All of my posting is simply to deal with the thrashing and squirming that _you_ do to avoid giving information. Read the earlier post, why didn't _you_ say anything about how to create an avatar or align prims? Since you don't change the pattern with which you do this, of course I post the same things. And on another note:

Actually, that's quite right. The fact people will let him nibble their toes is probably a plus. The point about all this "do something else" is that I don't have _anything_ like that, _anywhere_ in SL.

Why are you being ignored?

Because you haven't made yourself interesting to the people you are trying to make stop ignoring you.

How do you change that?

(a) See if other people are interested in what you're making.
(b) See if you can do something else that interests them.

What else can you do?

ANYTHING!

I have no idea what you mean, apart from the fact that I should be grateful we don't have to script in LISP?

It doesn't matter if they get confused. Just go very lightly on the RP when dealing with newbies, but never let go of your role completely (that's for your own enjoyment as well). Just having a very very flamboyant furry rockstar av with a big mohawk and a guitar should give them a hint, you know, everyone has seen cartoons so they kind of get the picture. Some are always sure to pick it up and go along, and that's where you start going off. If the places are the problem then just look further, there are tons and tons and tons of places, mostly around specific interest/fandom/hobby groups if RP sims as such don't interest you (we had that discussion already I think).

Yeah ok, so you want a more subtle role. No problem, play one. People generally tend to accept what they see if it is consistent - a good example is that if an av looks like a child and talks like a child, many people go illogically assuming it "is" a child, ie. the player actually is a child. Like I said, stick to your role and people will accept it.

I bet that to 99% of your rebuttals I can just reply "It's not REALLY a problem/It doesn't matter" so try not to make up any just for the sake of it, okay.

There is no point posting you any information other than to seek RL help. The information most people would need has been repeated many times in these threads, most people don't have your problem and would be able to take advantage of the information as given.

This kind of help cannot be given over a public arena like this. It needs one to one and face to face. Hence my advice.
