We're working on the cash angle now. My thought was that when Sarah finds us the property, we pay her and have her deed it directly to the group. That way we don't have to chop it up into 512's or have a bunch of people trying to make purchases. Will that work?

As for the cash, I will make an alt tonight. CartelTrustAccount <insert last name>. Donations can be made to that account. Please don't send money to myself or Oryx. Maybe it's my RL profession getting in my way, but I would really like to avoid co-mingling my personal funds with group funds. The CartelTrustAccount will have no other purpose than to hold funds for the purchase of the property, operating expenses, etc.

Oryx was tracking how much was being donated and by whom, but until we get the alt set up, we need to hold off on actually sending funds.
This is very very smart. I see we are in good hands. I love the idea of paying Sarah to buy the land...She is the person I trust the most in all of SL.

Can't wait to see what you last name is.

Just made my donation of tier. We now have enough to get a 4096. How are we looking as far as cash to make the purchase? And who is making the purchase?

We're looking at roughly L$30,000 in the pot so far. What Trout and I have discussed is this: He creates an alt called "CartelTrustAcct <Lastname>." He'll do this tonight. Those of us donating L$ will pay this alt.

We'll look to Sarah to find a Mature plot for us (shall I tell her a 4096 now?) and then the alt will pay Sarah directly. She will deed the land straight to the group. The reason that we're thinking of doing it this way is so that the alt isn't saddled with that big initial tier charge, which wouldn't be fair to Trout.

Once the land is deeded, it will belong to the group, and all tier donations will go to upkeep that parcel.

[Edit: Whoops Trout beat me to it :) ]

Everyone hold your cash until Trout creates his new alt, then he will inform us who it is in world.

As for everyone being welcome, everyone is accepted. We have steadily picked up new members over the past couple of months.

I only expect that to continue

Can only donate time and modest building skills, also a few items in my inventory for amenities. I am really liking this idea.

One suggestion, though: Instead of a biker bar or a redneck dive, make it look like a Mob hangout or at least a speakeasy, with a door that makes you say "Joe sent me" or somesuch to get in. Seems more in keeping with this crowd.

Ok ok hanging onto the cash, ya ask so much of a shopping addict.

Also, I was able to donate 512 to the tier...so there is 5531 in there thus far, arent there a lot of people that havent yet? There will be a large amount of available land from what I see, which is really nice!

I am willing to participate especially if I meet some of the people I have spoken to on the Ginko threads.

A suggestion......why don't we ask Desmond Chang if he could let us have a modest plot somewhere in Caledon. If this runs the advantage would be no up front costs and just tier rental via a meter on land paid in Linden Dollars. That way all could help out without the upfront bit.

Oh yes, if we went in the Caledon Forest area for example we would get a bigger bang for our bucks as it is all double prim land with lots of open land plus trees.

Just a suggestion, will look back here later

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I'll send 10K to Trout's alt tonight. Straight donation, if it doesn't work out give it to the SL Home for Lost Prims.

Looks like we don't need any more tier, so put me on a list for "call if we need tier".

I'm a little fearful of Caledon, I can never rez more than a little of Vic City before my video chips begin to run around screaming. So visually rich ... in fact, I don't care at all what the view is, that's why I originally thought mainland would be perfect, we could use very cheap land.

And yeah, a rundown roadhouse sounds perfect!

From what I am seeing here, the collection is far more than enough to get a nice parcel...what was the size that is being aimed for again? So many numbers in this thread I lost track lol

Ahhh! Don't buy shoes. I'm at work now, but as soon as I get on tonight, I'll shove the alt through Help Island and wherever else new accounts go when they are born. I'll post here and send a group IM with the name.

As far as everyone being welcome, Chris and Brenda let anyone into the group. It's not closed, you can join without even asking for an invite. If I thought for one second that this project would be used as a "cool kids" hangout and that occasional posters or forum lurkers wouldn't be welcome, then I would withdraw immediately. I would love to see occasional posters and lurkers show up and hang out with us. It would be a great way to meet people we don't normally see in here and maybe get them more involved. Plus, there are a lot of other people who are in other areas of these forums more often, and I'd like to get to know them as well.

why don't we ask Desmond Shang if he could let us have a modest plot somewhere in Caledon.
Desmond has noted elsewhere in the forums that he has an 18 month waiting list and does not want to over-extend his abilities to manage what he has.

Of course, I can't speak for Desmond, but I think this is a dead end. Also, Sarah Nerd has already extended a hand to this group via Oryx.

group land and cash pledges
09-13-2007 10:36
As of this moment, Forum Cartel has a total of 5531m tier donated, and what looks like $L55k in cash pledges.

add: except Oryx will be more authoritative on the cash when she gets it tallied

To anyone who has asked for a group invite. I am trying to send them as I see the request, but if I miss you don't take offense. Just look up Forum Cartel in the search in-world.

WOW lol you could make a pretty big hangout for that 0.o

4096 is more than enough for a rather large building - and the hangout wouldnt have to be very big anyhow.

But we also have the Pie and Panty fund to consider.

I did a little market research last night and saw a couple spots that I really liked. I wish I could remember the names, but one in particular was great - it had pool tables, nice seating, pretty much everything, except it was the size of Madison Square Gardens inside. If we could shave that down to a normal sized hangout and add our own personality, it would be perfect. Search "Biker Bar" and pick the one with the most traffic. I can't remember the name. The rest of the places that come up in that search are ok, but not spectacular. I'm going to try to find Chris' place tonight. You don't have a bunch of banlines and security, do you Chris? (kidding)

This is the only demand i will make. We started the cartel as free, open place, free from the FIC, clicque nonsense. No one is to be excluded from the group, or from the Thingamjig.I'd like it to be newbie friendly as well. As far the excess space, many of us love flying, skydiving and other outdoor pursuits, so the more open land the better.

Check my profile, it is listed in my picks. Did you look at Hog Heaven?

And no I don't have any banlines up, but I do have people banned by name :)
