I'll have to read this thread later to see if its already been suggested, but ...
why not a rotating hangout? Monday's at the Botanical Garden, Tuesday's at the Biker place, and so on ... and every couple weeks retire a loc and put a new one in, just to keep it fresh and so we can all go oohh and aaahh over someone's newest nifty place?
So what we need is (a) locations, and (b) a selfless volunteer to coordinate.

So kind of like the Olympics Soen? I can donate a little towards the initial land purchase. I really have no intention to go premium just yet. Maybe if you need any special animations or building things.... I have two bikes that don't really work that well, maybe you can hang one on the wall or something.

Awesome, Bree, thanks! I'll mark you down for donation to initial purchase. We'll sort out who donates what/when/to whom in the next few days.
I like the Olympics idea, but I think Trout and them wanted to organize a sort of permanent gang hang-out. We can hang out at eachother's places if we don't feel like going to the club. *shrug*

Well, the idea was to have a permanent place, so that whoever wanted to could just go there whenever, and maybe run into a forum-ite or two. I think that if we had to consult a calendar to figure out what day where, it is less likely that folks would just hang out there. As Chris points out tho, we don't actually need a place of our own for events like the planned schlong-a-thon from the "do you match?" thread, because we can always hold anything planned ahead at one of our existing places. The original idea has legs if people actually GO there and hang out some. If, however, we're all busy like bees whenever we'e inworld, then maybe we wouldn't see each other there anyway, and it would be just another empty place inworld. That's the real question. Would people actually go there? p.s. I would go there myself sometimes. And I would welcome getting to know other forum-ites inworld.

It's a decision to make. I wouldn't mind somewhere new to hang out. Sarah Nerd has just offered to buy an additional 1024 to tack on, and donate the tier for it. It could be a pretty fun place, I think.

From: Nika Talaj Coooooollll. Will definitely stop by to check it out for footprint and prim count. Consensus seems to be that it would be better to combine tier and get land than take lovely Isablan up on her incredibly generous offer to welcome we rowdies. Or roadies. whatever. Personally, I would feel guilty to take one prim away from the Botanical Gardens!!! /me loves that place. BUT if we combine tier then we would have to BUY the land, true? So we will need some cash too Well, maybe I can toss some in, but it might be good to share the cost. At least now is a good time to buy! If the current location of Rusty Nail is good enough, then I donate the land, because I need to reduce sqm used on tier for other things. Problem is there is only about 10 prims free! I wait for other land to be for sale in Stout sim for a time, but it doesn't happen

Well, that shows me what happens when you post just based on the first post without reading the rest. I'm in for $5K. I *would* even volunteer to build, but I tend to twiddle a lot and it'd take too long; maybe a prefab? If its full mod it'll get modded over time and grow character... Would anyone hang out? If there was a sandbox allowing scripting sure, I think so. Well, I would, I think.

Let's hold out for mature, for those drunken friday nights where I end up topless on the bar dancing. So should we join the Forum Cartel group?

We could give a list of land buyers names to Sarah and she could sell each parcle only to one person on the list.To keep away the landbots, while waiting for people to come online and buy.

From: Weston Graves I have hung out lots of places in SL for days and have seen not even one of the 50 thousand that are supposed to be logged in. Sometimes it's almost creepy. I would love to stop by and say hello to the people I read daily here. I would give freely to a donation jar at such a clubhouse, if welcomed - though I may be a fish out of water in a biker bar. Maybe I could sing "Born to be Wild." I was a really great singer in SL before voice came along. If you build it, we will come. Same here. I go to some of the most beautiful builds in SL and they are empty, like a ghost town. We need a karoke machine.

I have a problem. I just recently got rid of my premium account, I tried to upgrade back to the premium and I am getting this message.

So I think I may have to wait until Sunday to buy any land. Does anyone know a way around this?

Okay so here's the scoop. Sarah's going to keep her eyes peeled for a chunk of mature land for us. She has said that she'll divide up the parcels into 512s and reserve them so that you 512 tier people can buy them; no need to worry about land bots. She's willing to go another 1024 and donate the tier for that as well. We've got various people pitched in to donate money for the initial purchase to the tune of roughly L$20,000-L$30,000 which should be plenty. We've gotten offers of furniture, juke boxes, pose balls, etc. I can co-ordinate the land stuff if someone else leads off on the build and/or organization of donated stuff. Trout has volunteered to help organize, as has Nika. Who wants to be in charge of the build? Oh and I think Carli should be in charge of the SLippendales since this whole shlong-a-thon was her idea to begin with.

Wow! .. 88 posts in just over 9 hours .. quite a fireball! Well, I was struck with Wilhelms comments on page one and frankly I largely agree. There seems a lot of support for a 'communally owned' place but you're just looking at the financial aspects I think. Speaking as an ex-biker you amuse me with the notion of a biker bar. Bikers don't build bars. They don't buy bars. They 'adopt' them. Bikers buy beer .. drink some of it ... spill some of it .. wear some of it ... then jump on their bikes and find someone else to terrorise. Hell's Angels buy and build bars but we won't go there. My point is as Wilhelm and Rioko point out, there is a plethora of places out there already. Vast and beautifully built places. They just need people in them. Our biker club frankly got too big, too bossy, too organised and too regimented. It ripped its own heart out. You talking here of people puting a lot of time and a lot of money into something. Building by commitee has already been pointed out as not good. Devil's Advocate I know but what of someone falling out with someone else in your 'clubhouse' and wanting to pull their tier? What of a major dispute? Forum Cartel rules as of the moment are clear and handle this easily.... you just walk away. If you have a financial investment in the walls within which you are fighting it gets very nasty. /sceptism off .. time for my second coffee ... normal service will be resumed as soon as possible. From: Rioko Bamaisin I go to some of the most beautiful builds in SL and they are empty, like a ghost town.

I think no matter which route we go(using someone's land or buying our own) We are going to eventually have to deal with those issues. Maybe we can have a fund to buy people out if they so choose to pull out their land for whatever reason. Maybe we can just give all our money to a mutually owned alt,who will be the owner of land, lol. I don't know......
