I pledge 421 meters of tier.
How about a diner theme? You know, cause they serve that dessert that starts with a "p".
Yup, panties.

OK - I just got caught up, and I got the forum notice from Chris, so apparently Oryx and I are spearheading this project. Excellent. Oryx is clearly smarter than I am, so I can ride her coattails.
I understand the reservations that are being expressed here, and they make perfect sense. The easiest to address is Bilbo's concern with it being a "Biker Bar". I think I may have been the one to call it that, and perhaps I misspoke. We can make it whatever we want. I was thinking more along the lines of Roadhouse/dive bar. Weathered wood, license plates and junk on the walls, a small stage, jukebox, beat up old bar and plenty of beer and fried food. It's easy to change what we call it, and God knows I have no intention of insulting any motorcycle gangs. I like being alive. The other concerns expressed by Bilbo and others are 1) building by committee is always a disaster, 2) what if there is a falling out or disagreement, 3) there are other builds to hang out at, and 4) SL is transitory and people come and go, including those who have donated tier or have a financial stake in this project. 1) I completely agree. I would anticipate myself and Oryx collecting the ideas in this thread or that are PM'ed to us, then giving those to one or two volunteer builders as sort of a general concept, then letting them work their magic. I'm a volunteer here and I have no intention of getting in the way of legitimate, talented builders. Over time, after the build is done, we can let the place evolve based on the forum activities, but that takes the committee aspect out of it 2) Cartel rules are that disagreements in the forums stay in the forums. If this project is done under the auspices of the Cartel, then that rule applies. It looks to me as if we have about 5x the tier we need for this project, so if there is a falling out with someone who has donated tier and they pull their tier, then we can find someone who can replace that tier. We're not buying a whole sim here. It looks like 5 512's plus the 1024 from Sarah "Trout's New Hero" Nerd. 3) True - there are other builds. Fantastic ones, in fact. The purpose, at least for me, of Sl is two-fold. It is both a place to be creative and to enjoy the creativity of others and it is an amazing social tool. This project would serve both those purposes and there is no reason why it would take away from other builds. If you want to have a party or whatever at your build, announce it to the Cartel. If I'm on, I'll be there. If there is nothing going on, then this project provides a central place to chill out with friends, crack jokes, and generally goof off, and it shows off the talents and creativity of the members. 4) SL is transitory. No doubt. We seem to have enough tier donated or ready to be donated to build half of North America (Canada plus some of the northern States). If someone leaves, their contribution to tier can be replaced. Nobody has a "financial stake" in this. I'm not making a single L here, and neither is Oryx. Everybody who helps is a volunteer. That means free. If you donate L$ to pay for land, stuff, whatever, that's a donation and you have no expectation of getting it back. If you leave SL, we'll all be sorry to see you go, but you aren't getting your money or stuff back any more than I'm getting paid for the time I anticipate this will take. What you do have is an expectation of an accounting of those funds, and I'll work with Oryx to provide that. Having two of us gives an extra layer of security. I'll make an alt specifically for the purpose of handling funds so they stay separate from my own. No, the alt will not be interested in having sex with any of you, so don't even ask. OK - the bottom line is that this is for fun. FUN, people. If it isn't fun don't do it. If it comes unglued, then we had fun while it lasted. There are some organizational things that we need to deal with, and those generally are not fun, but I'll step up and deal with those. We have a LOT of people who have volunteered to donate tier, so I think we have enough for now. We also have a lot of people donating L. If my tier is not needed, put me down for donating cash. We have Sarah helping us find the land and kicking in another 1024. That's 3584 m2. Is that the right amount? Too much? Not enough? I agree that it needs to be mature (lol - PG). I like the idea of a sandbox for people to play in. We have a lot of people who have tentatively agreed to build some, but we need to narrow it down to a couple who are excited about this and ready to run with this. A prefab is a good idea if it can serve as a base and be modified to fit what we want. In fact, the Rusty Nails prefab has been donated, so that might save a lot of work. Funds, check Tier, check Land, working on it Concept, coming together nicely Builder, maybe? Person to blame if it all goes wrong, check (it's Oryx's fault) What am I missing? _____________________

See the new poll and vote for it. I believe the Cartel is also putting up an inworld proposal more along the lines of what TYPE of bar, but don't quote me on that. I'm unable to check until about 9 hours from now, hehe.

Ok, Trout, I already have one of what you just described. A dive bar already built and decorated. Sitting empty most of the time. It was just built so I could have a place like that in SL. And will it be a female alt? My only stipulation with the sand box is that it be restricted to group only, no sense letting all the griefers in to play. _____________________

It's a great time to get cheap land. Let's go for a newer low lag Corsica sim plot. Since this is more for what's inside than the view outside, I'm thinking we can get something for our needs for L$6.5 a meter or less. Please don't pay more or the land broker in me will cringe.
I have a great garden shack that can double as part of a dive bar. _____________________

Just a passing blonde thought..... and I'm not even a member........ but could this in any way be combined with the RAOGK-forum-helpers-location idea? Or is that just complicating matters too much?
I quite like the idea of a forum hang-out btw, but don't have much to contribute unfortunately. I'll bring some chocolate chip cookies though if anyone wants them? Oh .... and maybe add a couple of changing rooms around the back? |

I tend to be loner and hang out only with few but I would be willing to join up and even make custom textures, signs or artwork.
I might have few friends who help out with scripts, building. What do I need to do? |

3584 meters sounds perfect. Enough prims and space for what is being described. 4096 max if we get a ton of tier and cash.
Did not know Sarah was searching for us. We are in great hands. _____________________

I would tally up all the tier offers and subtract and hold in reserve 20% as a buffer in case of flakiness, arguments, death, or cake.

So far we've got for 512 or more of tier donations: Alicia Rioko (after sunday) Nika Trout Bradley Incanus Bruise Ashe1 Sarah Malachi Raymond Wulfric And L$ cash donations: Malachi Bree Me Soen Nina _____________________

What do I need to do? just join the Group. You can search for it in wor;d or ask an owner or officer for an invite. ANYBODY that wants to be apart of this just needs to join the group. You don't need to offer anything but yourself, and your pledge to have a good time. _____________________

Ok I couldnt read the entire thread, my eyes started to cross lol. I did see the mention of Saint Clair land (I just sold that to Sarah! LOL) Its a nice spot, but yes PG and there are interesting things on the neighboring sim...they wont last long though I have no doubt ha!
I dont know what all has been donated yet, but I can kick in a few lindens as well as dance balls. Sounds like furniture is covered for bars n such. If the dance balls are needed just send me a shout and I can dig em out. Once I get my land redone I might have some tier to toss out as well, but not 100% sure on that yet. _____________________

why not do it on an island?
the club/pub/bar/what ever it`s gonna be could be evaluated monthly to see if it`s actually working if it doesn`t, no harm done and the land can be sold if it works, then keep doing it if it fails, no harm done again and just sell the plot the thing is, who`s paying for the land and who will get the money if it fails? the land in all will still be $100usd (30k@266+3.5%) think a few more things need to be planned out even as i`ll love a place to hang out again |

We can either split the money between all who donated or set group accounting so that all members share equally. Or we can give it to Brenda to buy panties and shoes.
