It's not a problem per se...people just want to be sure that Mari will be comfortable wherever we end up in her role as an SL child.
Then let's let Trout or Oryx speak to Mari about it? I fear we will project our idea of what is acceptable for Mari onto her. Let's table this and let our fearless leaders look into it.

ok, i'm confused--and please pardon my ignorance, but i've only been here 2 mos and still don't know who everyone is. But, the previous post stated that Mari CHOOSES to play a child avatar--so is she over 18 in rl? and if so, what is the problem within sl with her being a child avatar?
Sorry, i guess i'm clueless when it comes to this.

There was a big uproar a couple of months ago about child AV's and where they should be. Or even should they be allowed at all. It all started with a German news team filming some sex acts involving child AV's and picture sharing of some kiddie porn. So Mari is a little skittish in mature areas.

Agreed to the above. Like we've all said, this is for fun, all are welcome, the fewer rules the better, but we do want to make it fun for ALL. SLingo's out but there are tons of other games out there.

I'm with Malachi in that "rules," per se, bog shit down and make people angry. If we want a safe area for kids, we put one in. Adults are presumably just that: adults. Don't wear your primnis in the safe area. Pretty simple.
Even if they match. I'm sure everything will be fine. I do recommend starting as soon as the Project Managers are ready. Too much talking and plannng can be a detriment.

OK, as per the Queen's instruction and Nika's eternally sensible advice (ty!) I'll see if I can't catch Trout online sometime today and see what he says. That is unless he's off chasing girls somewhere LOL.

oh don't worry. that won't happen. Mari is wise beyond her years, she can think for herself. We've had no problems to this point, we'll be fine.

I found a rather nice area - Island in the old continent, beachfront on a Linden protected waterway, Linden paved road up the hill, reasonable price. I'm at work so I can't log in (and I don't want someone grabbing it anyway) but I'll share the location with those in charge of buying hangout land.

That sounds a lot like my old land, where the Rusty Nail used to be on the M**** sim. The problem is the sim has serious lag problems - server time dilation drops to less than .40 and sim FPS less than 5 and script time jumps way up. It happens because of 1 parcel owner and their scripts - just stand in the sim and watch for 3 or so minutes. I wouldn't buy it, if that is the 2 parcels you are talking about.

My apologies to the seller.

what age is mari in rl? is she over 18?

Yup! An five in SL.

From: Brenda Connolly
And since Mari is one of our first members, and chooses to play a child character, we have to make sure there is a place for her. Especially if the verification scheme come to be. Of course we will look for input from all members, but I want to try to acommodate everyone as reasonably possible.

My concern, which I've sorta expressed to a couple folks in PMs, is dat the project could end up being stalled or soured simply because of attempts to include me. Which is why I've opted to step away from this project, so dat folks can hair their biker bar or whatever an not feel like they gotta somehow shoehorn in an avatar who would have no business, IRL, bein' in a biker bar. I dun wanna impose who I am in SL, an cause others to feel alienated in the process. To me, dat'd be a disservice to the project, wouldn't it?

(I'm really tryin for dis to not be all about me or nuttin', or for folks to feel like they gotta give up what they want jes to make it okay for me to be there.)

Mari

:D You mean this project might prevent me from chasing girls? I quit! Seriously, I was off chasing a turkey sandwich, not a girl, (although the girl who made my sandwich at the Subway was kind of cute - too bad I don't have a biplane in RL). It's lunchtime in RL. I'm back now. Let's up the timeline to Monday. That should be more than enough time for Oryx and I to get a solid idea for what people are thinking and to distill it down into something workable. Then while we talk to Sarah and go looking for land, Chris and Inc can work out whatever they work out. It's pretty obvious that neither one of them are the prima donna types, so they shouldn't have any problem figuring out who should do what and what it should look like. I'm excited to see what they come up with.

Well, I was hoping for a sandbox because its a lot more fun to build and socialize than it is to just build.

Someone had mentioned earlier the place could become a griefer magnet, and another person bought up the utility of estate tools (which you ... don't get ... with mainland). Not sure I know enough either way to say yeah or nay to having this on an island, but its worth putting out there to kick around...

I'm also just a bit concerned about the rapid buildup, going from 5 lots to 4096 to half a Sim, maybe. Maybe its just me, but when things flare up fast like this, either its something good and permanent, or it dies back faster than a tech stock. Maybe instead of a 20% reserve it'd be smarter to go a 50% reserve, until we know where this thing stabilizes out at.

Does the place need a skybox? I have one I wanted to start selling once I'm happy with all the scripting I plan to put into it...3 levels, 4 fireplaces, under 100 prims (and yeah, its my first serious hey-maybe-I-can-sell-it so I wouldn't mind some feedback (in IMs)
