The pissing in this thread started with the first post.

Happens every time you get something that nobody can agree on.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I thank you, with all of my pie-loving heart.... and yeah.. it didn't start out quite as unhappy in my opinion

I hardly think a couple of clicks to have the right group set is really justification for not setting autoreturn, or not being bothered to check before you start building. Sorry.

Broccoli

Sometimes you or someone in the group forgets to switch over. It happens all the time.

This one kinda bugged me, too.
Why is it ok to inconvenience the landowner and their friends, but NOT ok to inconvenience complete strangers?

You're demanding that people "just" set it to autoreturn. This is yet another "You should have to do what I think you should do because I want to use your stuff".

There is an existing system in place to deal with people not using your land to build. It's called banlines. Your demand that landowners go out of their way and do something extra so that you and yours can travel below 50m is completely out of line.

YOU are the one that wants it changed, ergo, YOU are the one that has to make the sacrifices, not the landowners.

... and no-one's really provided justification for the removal of banlines, other than "I want to be able to fly under 50m" or "I should be allowed to do whatever I want, even to the detriment of others".

True! Very true. Good point!
It's really, really odd that nobody has pointed out that ban lines are visually extremely ugly and really visit grief on the people in neighbouring parcels, even if they have no desire or intention of straying into the banned parcel.
I can't imagine why nobody has mentioned this. Amazing!

I dont find the extremely ugly bit to be true.. at least with my parcels, I can go almost to the edge before they even show up, and they look a hell of a lot nicer than a big brick box. You can see through them, they flash.... and can only be seen up close.. whats so ugly?

Actually, Sling, YOU have mentioned it, over and over again... ad nauseum.

Their ugliness is a reason to modify them so they are less ugly or not ugly - which a number of people have suggested. It is not a reason for abolishing them.

Everything that needs to be said here has really already been said. We're just rehashing the same arguments over and over, and it's gotten a little obnoxious. What are the chances everybody acknowleges that they have made their point, that others disagree with them, and in the interests of being decent to each other, even in disagreement, we all just let this one rest in peace?

Please?

Or making them visible by choice or not, like particles etc.

Frankly, if there was the option to not render at all object by owner/group that would rock too. I don't want stupidly short draw distance just to blot out the hideous thing someone has made (whether it's creator finds it hideous is not the point, if I don't have to see it I won't cast aspertions either AND I could be on the ground.

AND bye bye ad farms!

Haha, we showed YOU! We dumped a bunch of tea in some harbor somewhere and then convinced the French to come help us run you out of land that we took over from the previous owners. :p

And when you tried to come back we kept you out, without ban lines. *Ok, you did burn Washington, but that actualy may have been a good thing*

Completely different thing.

Autoreturn is designed to return stray prims - which may be innocently left there due to a building glitch, an abandoned vehicle from a noob, or griefer objects.

If you're too lazy to check your group tab before you start building - that's your own silly fault. You should not have the right to grief other players by disrupting a perfectly legitimate activity such as flying which generally does not in any way affect your gameplay.

Part of the fun for a large proportion of the people in SL is exploring, seeing other people's builds. What's Philip Linden's dream? Building a new country, a new continent? I don't recall seeing anywhere that it consisted of antisocial little balls of paranoia locked away in their own little corner of cyberspace utterly terrified that someone might walk past their door 100m away.

I simply cannot for the life of me figure out why so many people are territorial in SL where they cannot be harmed, property be damaged, or have anything stolen from them.

If you're worried about being caught, or being seen, doing something in Second Life ... then there's a fairly high probability you shouldn't be doing it.

The really important issue, here, Brenda, is what to name this new continent! Someone suggested "Steve"...

There's the answer! Broccoli's just sore about that and wants to take it all back...starting with SL!

No pie for you, Broccoli! Just salty tea.
