Ive complained about em before but Im sick of hitting ban lines that cant be seen until you're caught in them. The number of times my simple explorations of sl RUINED by these wretched things is beyond count now as is the number of times I ve been frozen and had to relog.

If griefers used ban lines theyd be reported and suspended.

The tool to ban trouble makers is there so is the tool to stop unwanted objects being dumped on your land. So why is a tool permitted which causes people to crash, distort their appearance loose their vehicles when simply enjoying one of the things sl is here for - to be explored.

Simple, it is a tool to keep the unwanted off of private property. For what ever reason, the property owner has decided that his land is off limits to most/all. Sounds reasonable to me. Why should you have the right to enter someone else's property if they do not want you there?

This is a very legitimate complaint - not about the banlines, which are essential in many situations, but about not being able to see them in time. Sounds like it ought to be an easy fix for LL.

why should some one have the right to use a device which smashes me out of sl when I do not use one on my land. I pay to be here too.

I can totally relate about the ban lines thing.. but if they were visable at say 196 distance or something like... how bad would the landscape look then?

It's kind of a catch 22 situation..

The ideal thing would be to see them on the mini map I guess..

I'd rather not have them be more apparent or viewable from farther away....they're ugly enough as it is.

yeah, that's one. But any situation where a person does not want anyone in his space uninvited, which is his right by way of payment. I hate them too, would never use them, but they are a legitimate tool available to those that chooseto use them.

You have the same right to deny access. Just because you choose not to use it, does not mean that everyone should lose that right.

I've mentioned this before, but I'd actually like to have a Ban Line Draw Distance setting. Turn it down to zero when you don't want to see them at all. Turn it up when you're flying so you have a chance at seeing them from a distance so you can turn to avoid.

people can ban anyone who causes a nuisance on their land simple as that. If they arent there to apply a ban what harm is someone going through their land going to cause anyway ?

People might have the right to ban me they should not have the right to use a system which causes me or anyone else to freeze or crash out of sl.

I didn't say that. People are entitled to a little privacy (or the SL-approximate, anyway) if they want it, for whatever reason. I just wish they'd stick to security orbs or something so I don't have to look at obnoxious red text.

They don't want the bother of people traipsing across their land? But harm or not, you have no right to access another person's land. Why should your right of travel trump someone else's property rights? The crashing has to do with your poor connection. I have never crashed when hitting a ban line.

People can find privacy if they want it without ban lines.

My station for example has tintable windows. My tower has a lockable elevator. There are plenty of doors around which can be secured.

You have no inherent right to fly through anyone's property....they own it, all the way up into infinity. That said, general ban lines only extend 50m up. Unless you've been specifically banned from a parcel, you should be fine above that altitude.

And I can cam into your locked tower and sit my ass down on your couch. *shrug*

Griefers, for one. And two. And three. And four...

Also, you can fly over the damn things now, which helps roamers a lot.

And draw distances don't have to be set on See Forever, they just have to be set on See Soon Enough.

There is no practical solution to getting rid of ban-lines.

Because it is their space. They paid for it. It's no one's business why they want to restrict access.

Absolutely. We took banlines down as soon as we set up a security system, which is only active in our home high in the sky. Ground level and everywhere else is open to all. Unfortunately we have a newish neighbour who owns a major chunk of land in the middle of the sim surrounded by ban lines. Plus several others with smaller holdings who've got the dreaded red lines up. So any exploration of our home sim is more of a bouncing of walls excercise.
BTW FWIW etc. I respect people's right to use ban lines, I just don't personally like them.

I've encountered so many security orbs that ejected me halfway across a sim in the same instant the warning was issued, and frankly - I hate that more: first being given the implication that I can go there... and then being told you're not welcome, piss off.
