I've only been bounced back by ban lines, never tp'd or crashed. occasionally an orb whacks me but most do give me a chance to get away. I have the hardest time with full parcels. You don't get a warning, My ship gets returned and I usually plummet to earth. that's what I would like to see , some way to pass throuh a full parcel.

Ahem, the Knowledge Base says:

So you've either been explicitly banned or you're hitting a security orb. :)

Next time it happens ann I'll call you across and we can analyse it together

incidentally the rules of physics say bees shouldnt be able to fly...someone didnt tell bees that.

YOURE WRONG ive hit ban lines at altitudes far higher than 50 metres even taking account of elevation and I know because Ive flown a lot higher than that mainly because I like trying to fly my various aircraft/spacecraft across sl.

Aha! That's the issue, and this IS a problem, but not really with the idea of banlines. The trouble is that vehicles hitting banlines often freeze up, much like they do when they hit full parcels. Ideally, what should happen when you hit a banline in a vehicle is what happens to you on foot, you'd simply be unable to enter.

This is a SL issue that has been discussed frequently here, there are various related JIRAs, and it persists. It's frankly past due to be fixed.

I also am in favour of being able to toggle ban line visibility, as one can do with property lines right now. I would probably leave it on for flying about, but once I know where the fence is, I see no reason I should have to see the ugly thing.

Edit to add: On the other hand, if you are hitting above 50 meters, it could simply be a full parcel issue, not a banline issue.

Here's a simple solution that will solve a lot of the issues with ban lines.

Make them visible to the landowner too.

Often people put the setting on and forget they have them on as you can't see it.

If the landowner had to look at the ugly red 'ban' lines that they have up spoiling their neighbour's view all the time, they might think twice about putting them up and leaving them up all the time.

Then I'm RIGHTand they have BANNED you from their land, which is their right. Apparently you irritated them enough for them to add you to the ban list.

Given your tone here, I can see why they may.

~Jessy

Given my tone ????
Im not allowed to refute the arguments thrown at me now.

Apparently you only have to be seen flying near land to get banned by the majority now.

what sort of 'messing' would you expect ?

Quite frankly, sitting on my couch without invitation would be enough. I don't want people randomly walking into my house in RL, even if they mean no actual harm, and I don't want them doing it in SL either. We're talking about my personal corner of SL and it should be up to me who can access it...otherwise, what's the point in owning land at all?

It's the virtual equivalent of 'personal space.' Don't invade mine.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I have to agree with you Maelstrom primarily because the idea of any real privacy in SL is so absurd. The only thing I see that they do is cause chaos.

The sim I live in doesn't allow ban lines. My next door neighbor has one and I've considered reporting him but I really can't see them from most of my property and he is at a corner of the Sim where I presumed it would do little harm. A couple of times, however, I've tried to learn to fly some vehicles and naturally drifted over his property resulting in crashing to the ground. Makes it hard to learn that way so now I'm considering asking him to take them down.

On the mainland it's even worse. Damn things are everywhere making it impossible to cross anywhere. It is a no win situation. Normally you can't see them until it's too late. If you make them visible then they'd be damned ugly. Get rid of them all is my opinion.

The only thing that might be worse than ban lines is security orbs with ridiculous low warning time. There really is no reason to allow less than 30 seconds and I don't understand why even longer can't be given.

Problem is ann if everyone said that and threw up ban lines no one would be able to move or see anything in sl as I like to explore that would negate a lot of the point of being here.

Days like today when there's not much work and my mood is pretty good, are the days when I kind of admit I enjoy threads like these. For a while. I find them sort of entertaining, I must admit. Well, until people start flaming each other and then it just gets sad.

My 2-cents: Unless you're travelling over land owned by Governor Linden, you're travelling over private property. Somebody has paid real money for that land, and they get to do with it whatever they want. If they want banlines, that's their business. If they want a security orb, it's up to them. If they want to turn on damage then sit in a lawn chair and shoot trespassers, they can do that to. (This one surprised me, but it's in the KB -- when damage is turned on, that means shooting is ok, even if you don't 'consent' to being shot. Standing on damage-enabled land is considered consent. Go figure.)

If you want to explore land you don't own, you have to accept the rules that the land owner has in place.

If you want to guarantee that you'll never run into a banline, go hang out on private estates where the covenant forbids them and the estate managers enforce the covenant. Or stick to travelling the Linden-owned lands.

No, I'm saying your 'locks' really don't give you any kind of privacy at all if someone wants to get into your tower. I'm less concerned by weirdos ogling my naked bald av from across the sim than I am by people messing with my stuff, so a security orb works perfectly. As I said, I don't have ban lines up.

You have an interesting attitude. I think that most people would care more about hiding objects (and themselves) from view than whether or not someone's dry humping on their sex bed while they're not home. I'm not saying you're wrong. It's your land. If you don't want people on it, that's your choice.

Like I said, I have no ban lines, but if I - and every other parcel owner - chose to put them up, that would be our right. We pay LL tier, they let us control a little bit of grid space, end of story. You don't have to like it but, as I mentioned previously, you also have no inherent right to use our land or airspace.

On land they own? Yup.

On Linden Land? No.

On other's land? Dependant on land rules. Jessy Sim, for example is an "anything goes" sim.

Turning off Push and Damage are land tools as much as Flight and Ban Lines. The person owning the land makes the rules.

Well, I don't particularly WANT weirdos ogling my naked bald av from across the sim, but I've sort of resigned myself to the fact that I can't really stop them if they're that bored. I can keep them out of my house and away from my stuff, though, so I do.

My little bit of beach is open to everyone.

Maybe Im going to have to liven up my sl experience by buying a few griefing toys then I might as well give these people a reason for banning me

odd and all I wanted to do is get from one place to another without being blown out of sl and so far for voicing my opinion Ive been described as a troll and slyly accussed getting up to all sorts of mischief.

Maybe I can see why griefers become such nuisance after all

You can just rant about bann lines all youwant. IT has zero effect on me. I bought the land with MY money. I pay $125 a month for tier with MY money. Until you start paying for some of this bann lines will exist on land I am paring for..tyvm.

God damn !

SL is supposed to be this amazing world full of incredile stuff to investigate and explore and all some people want to do is buy a little plot of the virtual world and shut it off from everyone.

And accuse me of trolling, ranting or whatever you want but I think the territorial attitude of some people is pathetic.
