I was waiting at my local railway station the other day for my fiancee. Now she phoned me to tell me her train was 45 minutes late starting (on a 60 minute journey) but the station annunciator never adjusted the ETA from 'on time' till it was due. They put it on 40 minutes .. and 40 minutes later when it hadn't arrived .. they put it on another three.
It arrived a minute after that! I'm getting a distinct feeling of deja vu.

If they keep going, they might be down during the USA Primetime as well.

From: Edmund Faulds Yeah but this should have all been tested & fixed before rollout! Tested and fixed .... WHERE exactly? The Main Grid is the only place to get a reliable test done since the systems there do the most work and will break down the fastest. You're just complaining to complain.

From: Solar Legion 1. There's nothing to 'get'. The grid is down, they're updating and testing the systems to see if the fixes took and if there are any further issues that may have been missed.
2. This is their update schedule - deal with it or move on. Haha, if I worked to that kind of idealogy I would be out of a job, they have a Terms of agreement to provide a service, as I said earlier they provide no Service Level Agreement of QOS so they have a perfect get out of jail card, we just need to wait upon their time, which for 7 hours in peak European times is well unbelievable.

From: Marianne McCann I know many vendors use the e-mail system so, um, ya... kinda need that.
Mari I mean like why keep the grid down while fixing it? Why not keep it up while fixing it..

Yes. We NEED those emails. Thousands of scripts RELY on those emails. From: Rukkia Yifu [Updated 13:05] Email delivery to and from Second life is not currently working. When I read that I laughed so hard and fell out of my chair... Do we need these 'emails' I don't know but if the lindens are making weird crap up to keep the grid down, Then I'll be laughing until I get a heart attack..

From: Shrike Rossini In all my years as a Systems Administrator this has to be one of the worst cases I've seen of service delivery, 6.5 hours and counting in European peak time is absolutely abysmal. Surely they have testing grids before rolling out patches and going omg we've noticed another issue lol ... thank God they have no Service Level Agreements or they would all be collecting their P45's lol If LL were based this side of the pond, I suspect we'd be looking at the prospect of a rebate to compensate for the downtime (since this is becoming at least a weekly problem.) It would certainly be worth their while to pull their ****s out of their ***s and actually fix the problem instead of letting it drag on like this if they faced statutory regulation and financial loss. But in the absence of regulation, I'll have to fall back on the voodoo doll (and give it a couple of extra hefty stabs with the needle!) Yegods! You're quite right, it's over a quarter of a day I've pissed away so far trying to log on to SL! If they ever have the temerity to claim some fancy 99.xx% connection uptime, I'm going to have to run amok with a custard pie canon in whatever virtual Linden office I can find!

Now they don't even bother posting "omg wait 15 minutes more and you're so lovely and patient here". That's a development.
The thing here isn't about gnawing at them because we feel like it.
For me, it's about ALWAYS choosing European prime time for downtime. And then not getting it done on time. And then telling me it's going to be allright in 15 minutes, just wait. And so I wait through the whole 3 hours that I had for this. I'm not the only one. So shove your optimism down someone elses throat and maybe, just maybe think about WHY people are angry not about oh yeah I'm so cool and calm, they're all idiots.
This game is not even a game. It has a huge scale. Involves real money. And a *lot* of real money. Which means these things are way more serious than in random mmorpg's out there where the only thing lost is the time of playing. In here, downtime on their only time of playing means huge losses for quite alot of people. Think about that for a moment.

Shut up and wait like everyone else unable to even whine here in the Forums. Eh no. People have the right to complain if they wish to. If you do not personally like it, don't read this thread -- as you would put it, stop wasting your time.

Hmmmm .... this is reverse "Scotty Mentality"
Where as Scotty would always give a hour to do 30 minutes work ..
Heres LL
SL Scotty - She canny take na more cap'n, the grids gonna blow
Cap'n Phill - But Scotty we have prople waiting to get on
SL Scotty - Ok Cap'n tell them it will take 10 minutes
Cap'n Phil - How long will it really take
SL Scotty - 3 Hours Cap'n but by that time most of our user base would have gone to bed and the remainder will never have known.
Cap'n Phil - Scotty ...>Stick more Lindenium in the Rosendale Expenditure Matrix, Crank up the SIM Dimension generator ...we can have our asses out of this problem if we can only take more resources from the residents ... sorry I mean Klingons and lighten the ship by disposing of the Holo-Inventory
SL Scotty - But Cap'n you said that stuff doesnt exist ......
Cap'n Phil - Scotty ...... it exists when we need it to... Light Speed now lets get those SIMS out

It is frustrating, in fact it's doing my head right in.
However, something as large and complicated as the grid is, I am not surprised they have issues like this.
Doesn't help though does it?
Still it's very nice of them to give me a chance to go and catch up on other communities that I neglect while feeding my SL addiction.

They expect it to be back up by 1:30, it says on the login page... meanwhile, the clock on the same page says it's 1:56 ...

From: psimagus Hax [...] in the absence of regulation, I'll have to fall back on the voodoo doll (and give it a couple of extra hefty stabs with the needle!) Great plan. I'll throw in nine black chickens, a goat, five ceremonial candles to put in a pentacle, and a virgin.

I'd far rather they just kept it down until they get the blasted thing FIXED. It's far more annoying to have them open the grid up and then have to shut it down about 30 minutes later due to this show stopping issue!
