From my experience, I would say that from 08.00 GMT time onwards is best, that is the time I see most weekdays the least people online.

Normally from 18 to 25 thousand max and slowly drifts upwards after midday.

Evenings there is normally well in excess 35 thousand plus online.

So, I agree, why shut down at a peak time?

The reason is clear: they don't want to do it in the middle of the night in California. I agree that it isn't fair to Europeans, but that's just the way Linden does it, I guess.

Anyone noticed this?

[UPDATE] Thank you for your comments. We greatly appreciate your continued patience during downtime. Please note that in the near future, and thanks to Het-Grid, downtime will occur less frequently. Don’t know about Het-Grid? Check out Breaking News in this month’s newsletter.

Hmmm... you guys deliver, then I believe. Maybe.

I thought breaking new s just meant that any new feature was automatically assumed to be broken?????

Hm, a thought just occurred to me. Downtime is the only time when I communicate with other residents. Or well, actually just post in your threads and read what everybody else says. Now isn't this pathetic.
Offtopic but inworld it seems to me that people are odd. I think I'm the odd-magnet. I only get "me-want-sex-you-give" or "gimmemoneyplzplzplzplzplzplz". I don't like clubs anyway and well whenever I go out of my home-like thing, I get the above treatment. And no, I don't look like a slut, escort or anything like it. Ehh. So the world is quiet for me.

But! It's a good side to downtime. (Downtime too long - my brain is getting weird ideas)

Linden Blog .....

We REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLY have no idea what we are doing ... so we have four techies looking for thier arse with both hands while Phill looks for the light switch.
I know these Jobs are hard ... i DO THEM in RL .... but for GODS sake can you please give realistic expectations ..... the grid should be down for ROLL OUT only ..... and not while you fix it ad hoc. Or rather just say ....EUROPE can fuck off...... US we might get you online sometime today.
LL has my sympathies ..... it must be hard trying to run a MASSIVE computer system, with a large user base with a large revenue stream of hooked SL Zombies waiting ... clicking on every screen refresh.
Its almost like .... " give us a bit of dope ...get us hooked then take it away and see how much we are willing to pay to get out fix"

I've been on SL for over 2 years. (my first time posting here) Why am I posting now in 2 years of SL? because I've had it with the problems SL has been flogged with over the last six months and when I go to post on the blog a comment, it is censored. (I did not flame etc) - and was actually 'mild' compared to other comments.

So I go to the General Forum page to post (what I'm posting now) and it is down as well as the grid lol

I believe it's come to the point where SL is severly overcharging for this 'service' and is indirectly ripping people off (mainly due to items dissapearing from inventory) -- I predict lawsuits flying soon.

this leads to new users...do not put money into this until a major turnaround occurs in SL and all is fixed. you risk throwing your money away.

last part of this vent -- problems with SL over the last 6 months (approx) did NOT occur during the first year I've been on. even lag was very infrequent

cherry on the cake is recieving zero response for help over issues. (or even some kind of explanation)

sad really.

to add...my post from the blog (not allowed)

-------------------------------

been on SL for over 2 years.

have NEVER seen so many problems like there have been in the last 6 months.

anyone notice the problems get worse when 30,000 residents are online?

methinks a bigger server farm is needed

while waiting, I came across an interesting blog

http://farfromthetruth.blogspot.com

a cool conspiracy story blogged live. good time killer while the lindens ‘tweak’ :P

I do however love it how they say:

[UPDATE] Thank you for your comments. We greatly appreciate your continued patience during downtime.

Am I stupid or are we really patient here?
Ah screw that, me as an european will take the hint and buzz off soon anyway. No hope left for me. A very beautiful and serene finale for the day:P

Ah well. I'm seriously interested in what they find next though, so I'll hang around and wait until I finish my tea. It's kind of like horse racing or something. "Will Bug-Me get ahead from "Grid-Execution"?"

So why not do it in the afternoon instead of the morning? An 8 hour working day doesn't preclude working in the afternoons, surely?
Oh, I forgot - they couldn't slope off for an early lunch at 11am and not bother coming back until it was time to clock off.

I'm gonna make me a Linden Voodoo doll...

Thanks to the TAO of Linden, they don't have to do anything they want to.....

Well I think the reason is to allow more time in case something goes ... wrong, hehe. I mean if they start in the morning they have the whole day in the "office" to deal with it, which I'm sure they prefer to starting in the afternoon and then working on it until midnight.

What gets me is the blog gets updated and the time of update is 10 minutes prior to the announcement that the grid will be back up. What is being found during that last 10 minutes? Then 20 minutes later, another announcement the grid will be up in next 10 minutes and no luck. Instead of posting the time the grid will be back up, just say shortly or later.

[Updated 13:30] Email delivery to and from Secondlife is not currently working. This affects any scripted objects that use email and the transmission to and from Secondlife IM via email. Our developers have identified the issue and are currently working on a fix. We need to get this resolved before we re-open the grid.

-_- how did you fuck that one up?
