So now we're debating on if something titled "So much for the grid being back up on time" is a complaint?

Yeah. Right. Sounds like he's happy to me...

I always get confused.. What are we complaining about today? Is it that they don't take the grid down to fix things or that they keep it down to fix things?

human nature......we want it all and we want it NOW!!...

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Ah, but this would have been based not on chance, but on skill, so it would have been legal. :p

I'd wager you're right on tha... oh, wait... ;-)

Suggest one measure for every time someone says in public, or private, "wana sex?".

Surprise, another postpone.

If we would do this kinda "it'll be ready for you tomorrow"... "oops, still couple of days"... "hold on! you'll get it tomorrow" -things with our customers we would be out of business in a blink of an eye!

The most important thing is to keep promises (in delivery time). The is something wrong with the management if deadlines are being overdued every single time.

I have only played one other MMO for any length of time, missed time deadlines on maintenance days is pretty par for course in the industry.

I'd take that bet since I'm slightly more optimistic than that (while still being a pessimist nonetheless) but it would probably result in a ban as a form of gambling, even though the lindens are gambling for us as we speak with our "second lives" at stake.

Couldn't be more right on this one.

I've played MMO's for years, all different companies, and it's almost rare that a "scheduled" downtime goes exactly as planned.

In the big picture, these downtime's that make us all nuts, really are very small compared to the actual uptime.

I think two of the quotes in my signature are very apt in a situation like this:

From: Gordon Wendt

"Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate" - Abandon all hope all ye who enter here
-Dante Alighieri, The Divine Comedy (1308-1321 AD)

is a great reference to the SL grid.

From: Gordon Wendt

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? - Who's watching the watchers?
-Juvenal (1st-2nd century AD)

applies greatly to LL.

I play one other online-game and if I remember correct, it's uptime last month was about 99,96%.

I wonder what percentage is SL up every month.

And surprise:

"[Updated 12:15] We have completed deployment for the fix and are continuing testing."

I'm not sure I completely agree, I play WoW (World of Warcraft) and they are normally very good about getting their downtimes done on time, granted they have a much larger and (in my opinion) much more competent technical staff to deal with the upgrades and any unexpected events during them.

1. if grid returns on or before time, have a drink to celebrate.

2. if grid return late but on 1st "Delayed" notice, pour another to enjoy while you get back online.

3. if grid NOT back on for 1st delayed time start to get changed.

4. if grid not back on for 2nd delayed time go to pub.

SL economy may be dodgy, world markets may be in turmoil, but my local is doing REALLY well!

:)

Ha ha! You forgot 5. Come back from pub, find SL still dodgy; drink, troll the forums, and buy random stuff on SLX.

And now it's 12:20pm, and still not back :(

Time was (only a couple of weeks ago) they'd allow responses to the blog entries, but I guess that made the failure of LL to stick to any kind of a timetable entirely too visible. I guess I'd better just get used to wasting at least one evening a week kicking my heels and browsing SLExchange (without the ability to buy anything, of course,) until LL can be bothered to provide the half-decent service we pay them for.

Why the entire grid has to go down at least once a week for more hours than are ever forecast, I don't know. But I'm frankly getting pretty ****ed off with it.

I have to correct my uptime percentage about this other online-game, it was 99,99% last month. And they increased my "playtime" 3 minutes for the time it was down.

And WoW content is pretty much totally static, instead of pretty much totally dynamic like SL. That and the entire WoW population doesn't all play on a single 'grid' like the SL population does.

I agree that LL does a poor job when it comes to server stability when compared with most other online service providers. Blizzard is a bad comparison, because it's the ten ton gorilla of the industry, with money coming out of its ears. Still, LL can do better and really ought to -- it's been very shabby indeed, in fact, compared even to other service providers of a comparable size (e.g., Iceland's CCP).

One thing that would help dramatically would be if LL didn't assume all its customers lived in CA. This time of night (UK, BST, GMT+1) is the only time of day I get to log on. So they always schedule these ****ing maintenance events exactly now :(
I've spent well over US$1000 on SL in the last month, so why do I feel like a second class citizen here? It may be ever so convenient in CA to schedule these reboots, with their randomly extended outages, for the same time every day. But I'm getting thoroughly pissed! This is not the level of service I expect from a halfway compentent service provider, and if any passing Linden happens to alight on this thread, I would urge them to take this suggestion on board - spread the s**t around a bit - don't always dump on the folk in Western Europe! Because our patience is a finite commodity, and the bottom line is - if you **** us around enough, we'll find someone else. Anyone else. Any other remotely similar provider who doesn't dump on us.

I love what I've seen of SL, but my patience is wearing thin. It would be wearing less thin if I got to see more of it (and wasn't paying half-region tier fees for the privilege of seeing less of it.)

Yep, that's it. I'm outta here. TV is better anyway ;)

I hope SL will be back online on friday when I am back home again from business meeting.

And I've been in SL for a year soon, so even though I'm new to this forum I am not totally newbie concerning the Game.
