From: psimagus Hax I confess, I don't even know how all the server networking stuff happens - it's just a sort of voodoo to me. I pays my money, and I assume LL sacrifice the requisite chickens But it can't be impossible to schedule these things at different times of the day. This happened last Wednesday at the same time, it happened the week before that, one evening (might have been Wednesday - I wasn't keeping count,) at the same time. This is a bad time of day for me. I know I'm a small cog in the machine, but there are a lot of other small cogs who find it a bad time. If this field needs manuring (and I have little conception of the the technical whys and wherefores,) it would be more equitable all round to spread the s**t a bit while doing it. Even with a limited understanding of server technology, I know that these events could be easily rescheduled to spread the inconvenience instead of dumping it on everyone in my timezone. I agree with you, but LL seems dead-set on doing things between 9 and 5 Pacific time as a matter of their corporate practices. When CCP would do updates, they would take EVE Online down for 24 hours (and sometimes go longer) typically from Noon Iceland time to Noon (or whenever they got done) Iceland time, so everyone was more or less equally impacted. But then again, CCP also actually staffs their server teams on weekends when they have peak user capacity and other industry standard practices that LL ignores for the most part. I agree that doing things during the day Pacific Time screws Europeans, but I wouldn't expect LL to change that scheduling any time soon.

From: Sally Silvera actually just realised the blog doesn't say on which day they're opening back up Thanks for the heads up. I've now scheduled my Outlook to send me a reminder at 13:15 SLT every day for the next two weeks. I wont miss it now!

Oh-la-la another issue. My bet is that a) it will come back up in 45 minutes, meaning I get to see "grid online" just before I leave; b) I read tomorrow from the blog that it was down for 4-5 more hours.

Pandora, first of all, welcome. Second, the downtimes mostly last a few hours more than said. There have been incidents with more. At least my time (yesyes, I know, short time) experience says so.

My experience has been they come back usually about an hour after they scheduled though I'm never surprised when it takes longer such as today. Lately, I admit they've done a better job. The past two or three updates I believe were pretty much on time, as I recall. That is more of an exception rather than a rule.

time of posting?
08-22-2007 13:14
Why do the posts here say 8:14 p.m. or so? I'm EST and it's 4:13 -- and I thought SL was PST?
Where does the posting time come from?
(Newbie question)

(Newbie question) You set the timezone in UserCP under Edit Options.

(Newbie question) In your user CP, check what the forum time is set at. You can choose whatever timezone you wish.

Anyone noticed this?
[UPDATE] Thank you for your comments. We greatly appreciate your continued patience during downtime. Please note that in the near future, and thanks to Het-Grid, downtime will occur less frequently. Don’t know about Het-Grid? Check out Breaking News in this month’s newsletter.
Hmmm... you guys deliver, then I believe. Maybe.

From my experience, I would say that from 08.00 GMT time onwards is best, that is the time I see most weekdays the least people online.
Normally from 18 to 25 thousand max and slowly drifts upwards after midday.
Evenings there is normally well in excess 35 thousand plus online.
So, I agree, why shut down at a peak time?

Should we take bets on if it goes to 1:45?
I know gambling is illegal but the grid monkeys are too busy to notice right now.
