That would be her meeting the desperate - which will lead to further complaints about guy quality.

**WARNING! Temporary thread derailment in progress**

Ok, I have to ask...what does "Oi" mean? I'm assuming it is possibly the Portuguese/Brazilian form of "Oye" in Spanish (as used in "Oye Chica) - meaning literally "listen girl" but better translated into English as the expression "Hey there."

My partner and I went looking for Latin dance spots one evening and found a nice quiet place. Then this guy drops in and IM's both of us with just one word: Oi

Then he comes over to us (dancing) and says "Oi, girl. Dance."

**I now return you to your regularly-scheduled thread :p **

10 years.

Very good, thank-you. Can I add any of the real life years? If not then you are saying no one can start a thread like this one.

I'm a black Jewish lesbian scientist amputee transsexual in RL. (unattached)

Any takers?

There are?
Oh shit!

I suppose there would be. It's SL after all.
There's probably a store that sells the appropriate avatar.
Wonderful! :)

Oh yes, absolutely without a doubt. Likewise the ones who put "forever devoted to Nincompoop Nimoy, you are the light of my life..." are pose-ball maniacs with 450 different bukkake overlay patterns. Expediency in declaration is the rule, not the exception.

Ummm, Gummi, who's broadbrushing now?

I think this fails your own quoted Dawkins Test. ;)

From an european perspective these are sharpened further by the deep US antipathy to the idea that it's even possible to have non-exploting, non-demeaning sex: the standard response to this problem, so I am advised over and over again, is just to play as a girl.

Hey, awesome! It's America's fault AGAIN! Chalk one up for the team!

Perhaps I'm hanging out in the wrong spots, but I've never had occassion to be anything other than as pleasant as I can be in-game. I don't think that men or women have a monopoly on the giving or receiving of rejection and negativity. Nor have I found in the world as a whole that women or men are better or worse than each other, they usually just have different expressions of "unkind". So I do agree that the homily is not just outdated but always was a fantasy.

It may also help that I make no connection to the gender of the avatar to that of the player. It tends to make me think of them as "humans".

Well said!

I don't think being rude, crude or nasty is gender specific thing either but men depending on their cultures are encouraged to behave like beer swilling, crotch scratching, often encouraged to make as many notches in the bed post so to speak.
I am guy....I am gay, with bisexual leanings and I am not humping, pixel or other wise everything that moves and I have no interest in doing so and I only scratch my crotch privately.
Sterotypes are sterotypes.
Personally I always have found the male versus female thing distasteful and broadly offensive and I never understood it.

There's loony fringe who can't understand that 'equality' does not mean 'same'.
Men and women are different - Equally entitled to respect, but still very different.
Neither is better than the other.

Any approach to life that does not celebrate the difference is doomed to frustration.

No one who actively advertises herself as a lesbian should start a thread about the poor quality of the men she dates in Second Life.

However there is the 10 year conditional.

After 10 Years in Second Life you are allowed to start threads that do not make sense and stay above scrutiny.

Alright - how do I miss all the good stuff? This thread was supposed to happen Friday morning.

Hello, I'm Trout. I'm a guy. Unless I'm working on something that requires actual grey matter, I do most of my thinking with what's in my pants, and I don't make any excuses for that. It's just the way it is. That's no excuse for being rude, harassing women or rejecting actual meaningful relationships, however, wherever they present themselves. I just think most SL GF/BF relationships seem to be about playing house and escaping a little from RL. That's ok, if that's what both people are looking for - SL can be a nice escape from RL stress and pressure. On the other hand, there can be real, meaningful relationships as wll, but those are going to be rare, just as they are in RL, and if you find one of those, count yourself lucky and cherish it. Don't expect it any more than you expect to win the lottery when you buy a ticket.

Where was I going with this? Oh, right! Don't look too hard for a special relationship. Just meet people, have fun in whatever context you want, and don't worry so much. If you find the right person, you'll know. If you don't, you'll still have had a lot of fun.

For what it's worth, I am female, I have ALWAYS played a female (with the exception of a few photo shoots where I needed a man) and I'd say that 99% of all the men that I've met in SL are very polite to me. I don't get pressured for sex, I don't get penises bumped at me, I don't get "Oi, you teach me sexies now," none of it. I've had MAYBE 2 or 3 exceptions in the entire year I've been here. If a man is interested in me, he's talked to me nicely, we've had decent conversations, and then I leave it at that after a bit. Neither party is hurt, offended, brutalized or traumatized. It was just a nice hour of talking. I'm absolutely not sure where all this "if he's a man he's going to harass me" stuff is coming from.

So... *raises glass* Here's to all you guys out there! Good on ya!

Interesting the things that are revealed by profiles. :) I think most if not of my groups in my profile will show art, books, music, libraries, one or two tinies groups, and the Forum Cartel. Oh, and Cat Lovers. I really hope that one is for people that love their real life cats and is not somehow a sex group.

I always come on at end of threads but my take on all this is to suggest people who search for Shangri-la in sl should lighten up and maybe relationships will work out. There is so much "doubt" and guilt in so many of these threads. I have a partner in sl - he doesn't mind if I explore. This IS a Life but it is also a game. So experiment. In real life sex is fun - FUN! - try and make it so here. In my real life I have several boyfriends. I dont seek out a single male partner (or female if it comes to that). There is, honestly, too much pressure being put on long-term commitments. In SL, my partner and I have been together for 10 months mainly because I like him, we have great intimate moments (gotta be careful there, I dont want to be "slammed" for saying wrong thing) and we are realists. I know what he wants and he knows what I want. I guess none of this makes any sense but I felt I had to say something about relationships here.
And Nekos ("cats";) make wonderful partners - I am one myself and in a full cat skin most of my sl time. I do "go out on the tiles" but I always come home for my saucer of milk. :)

Same here. a couple of doofuses here and there, and one well meaning RP'er who is looking to go beyond that, is about all. Usually I can spot a knucklehead and steer clear before anything happens.

Helps when the "knucklehead" clearly notes the knucklehead thing. :)

Oh, and there is Chris and his mention of his very hairy belly. My the things we learn if you pay attention in the forums. :)

It kind of depends on where you hang out.

If you spend a lot of time time in Brothels, Strip Clubs, Sex Shops, etc.

A higher percentage of scummier guys will approach you.

I've meet the nicest people in strip clubs, sex clubs, what have you. Odd, I know, the scummier ones seem to avoid me for some reason. There are some that will kneel at my feet and ask to lick my shoes, but I do not put them in the scummier guys category. I put them in the "please learn to read profiles, you shoe licking . . "
