Both of you shut up. My Seahawks can barely maintain a lead in the NFC West. Until Sunday they were only three games ahead of a team that hasn't won a SINGLE GAME!!! Don't even get me started.

Heh. Try eating off of those little airplane food trays while wearing a set of steel bracelets. Was nothing, really. I was in a foreign country illegally. :p The humiliating part was being the last person to board the plane and having every single eyeball stare at me as I walked down the aisle.

But we digress, and seriously, LOL. To the OP: SL isn't a matchmaking service, it's a social environment. Do with it what you will, but don't blame the environment if you're unhappy with the people you've met.

[Edit: Chris: Sorry, that's a need to know factoid. Ray: LOL!]

Damn! They are getting strict up in Canada, aren't they?

Blame Canada! No, it was actually Ireland and the plane ride back was mega-uncomfortable. I had to watch "Gone in 60 Seconds," and get permission to use the lavatory. And the dude next to me kept staring at my cuffs, LOL so I tried to keep them under the tray table.

/me is still too embittered over the Mets to give a Flying Prim about the World Series

I had been looking for a Mets shirt since I joined SL. I finally bought one a few days before the season ended. Now I'm too ashamed to wear it.

Maybe if I had a prim paper bag to wear over my head....

Oh, God, I share your pain. Problem is, NFL teams tend to peak out and decline, until being low on the totem pole lets them get enough good new talent from the draft to start rising again (the Detroit Lions are a significant exception, of course, always being at the bottom). I am a rabid Eagles fan and have been since the Pilgrims landed and carved their graffiti on that rock. On Sundays from August until end of season, I bleed forest green. Alas, the Iggles missed their chance. Donovan McNabb is getting a year older each year, and their other talent is falling by the wayside year by year. I think their best chance was the year when injuries practically wiped out their entire first team, and it is downhill for the foreseeable future.

I'm not sure, Hate. Honestly I think there's nothing wrong with taking on an alt of the opposite sex just to see what life is like on the other side of the fence. If I want to go out as a guy, dance for an hour or two with a pretty lady with NO promises of any future relationship (ships passing in the night) what's wrong with that? Hell, what's wrong with me being a male avatar and having a female SL wife? People pretend to be lions, robots, children; what's wrong with pretending to be the opposite sex, especially if there's a zero chance of ever meeting in RL to complicate stuff?

Yes I understand that there are human emotions behind every avatar, but if I want to be a man, I honestly don't understand what's wrong with it if I keep it all relative.

I think the idea of creating an alt AV of the opposite sex to "walk a mile in another's shoes" to see what that is like *could* be interesting from a psychosocial perspective. But there are all kinds of people in SL and some are not as emotionally healthy as others. So even with absolutely no promises of any kind, even dancing with a woman who *thought* one was a male RL *could* be potentially hurtful.

Anecdote: I played EQ for years. I know there were a lot of men who played female AVs. Two of the reasons I heard most often were: "If I'm going to look at myself from the back, I want something attractive to look at" and "People give females more free stuff."

Regardless, unless I know otherwise, I tend to take people as they present themselves. One day I was doing some solo NPC fighting. A female AV was also soloing and we struck up a very pleasant conversation which resulted in us meeting up there regularly to partner fight - which resulted in her inviting me to her guild.

During this time I had experienced a rather irritating situation with a male "friend" in game and shared some of this with my new female friend. To my complete surprise, "she" told me she was a male in RL and thought "she" had told me that previously.

This particular person wasn't trying to be deceptive - he honestly thought he had mentioned it in our first meeting. We had several men in our guild who played female AVs - many married and playing EQ with their RL wives in game also...it was no big deal.

But for me, even though he and I continued a very nice platonic friendship, I just never thought of him quite the same again as when I thought he was a RL female because our initial friendship had been forged when I *thought* he was a female RL.

Methinks those who try to parse gender-bending on the Net - and ESPECIALLY in SL - are wasting their time - or indulging their personal hang-ups.

Enough to know that you know what the avatar is that you see, and you have NO IDEA what the person behind that avatar is.

Take it from there.

Sol, lol. Made a rhyme. It is so not as easy being a guy as you think it is. Women are so used to morons approaching them, even morons who aren't newbs with attachments, that they are likely to be rude or difficult to approach at all. That's not anything negative about them - I'd have the same response if I got approached all day long by idioits saying, "Oi, Oi, buttsecks!!" Not all women are like that - but if someone is shy or has difficulty approaching women in RL, then that is unlikely to be improved in SL. Go to a dance club and ask someone to dance - you are as likely to be ignored or told to go to hell as you are to get a positive response. After a while, you just kick back in a chair and enjoy the music and to hell with dancing.

I'm just saying, it's easy to talk a big game. On the other hand, if you show up with your alt and want to go see what happens, I am SO down with that. Just keep an IM open so we can see how you do. I'll give pointers which will probably backfire, but which wil make me scream with laughter when you try them.

Honestly, the potential for hilarity is absolutely through the roof. Forget the sex. Just get someone to make out with you.

/me rethinking the whole idea.

Duely noted Trout. I thougt I had a cursory idea of how difficult it is for guys, hell I've been less than friendly on occasion myself. Not rude or ugly, just very clear that I'm not interested. You're right, that whole "hey baby can i get wit choo" crap after years of it in RL and then coming in to SL and finding it to be even cruder...well, a girl can get annoyed. Especially when the guy doesn't have a clue as how to take NO for an answer.

But, I submit I really don't understand what it's like for you poor nice guys - My experience in RL as a gay woman is that women as a rule just tend to be nicer to other women. Even when they are straight and truly only interested in a platonic friendship it seems that they are just more pleasent when rejecting us. (lol) One friend told me she was never offended when a Lesbian ( a nice polite one) asked her out. I think it must be in the approach.

Anyway, Dang. Now I just hope I can get someone to even talk to me. :(
