Can you realy trust your SL lover?

I think that the roles are opposite more than you realize. I have seen woman rack up devoted lovers like a good pair of shoes. Just for the ego boost...leaving hurt men in the wake.

Yes, heartbreak is a part of SL...but with the right person...totally worth it.

I've seen that too, Colette. I don't know if it's to get back at someone who hurt them in the past or what, but it is despicable. At least the guys who fool around have the good grace to scuff their feet and look ashamed of themselves.

I'm Bee's partner, and I feel the same about him. Everyone has the capasity to cheat. It's a choice you make, not a mental program you just set to idle in the background. Love is hard work, so is partnership and marriage. A constant day to day choice to be faithful and honest. For some, it's easy. For some, it's not.


Man, woman, gay, straight, polygamist, monogamist.....fidelity is a choice, not a trait.

Please, do not direct anger at me because I remind you of the person who did you harm.

I, for one, make sure I do not leave men hurt in the wake. I try to make them hate me, which, for them is better than being sad.

About as much as your RL lover/partner/wife/husband can trust you.

This sort of stuff always makes me laugh, you have no moral issues with cheating on an RL partner with someone in SL but God forbid your SL "lover" should cheat on you with someone else in SL.

Perhaps your SL "lover" doesn't like the idea that you "cheat" on them whenever you log off.

Pull yourself together people.. in 99% of cases, SL "love" is surreptitious mutual masturbation when you think your RL partner isn't looking.

I understand that there are some genuinely single people out there playing SL, who subsequently meet and fall in love. More power to them is what I say, but really we all know they are a tiny minority.

Don't get me wrong, SL is a place you can do whatever you want, for whatever reason.. just accept it and yourself for what you are and live with it.

There is another option - yes, there are some singles in SL. Yes there are some people cheating on their RL partners, but there are also those who have RL partners who know about the person's SL activities and are quite content with them doing that.

There are divorced singles, many of whom are parents (making dating more difficult)

Singles who are shy around others for whatever reason.

Some other singles who for some reason are not dating IRL atm.

And of course you COMPLETELY ignore the most famous single person group in Second Life.

If you read my post, you'll see I didn't miss out singles at all...

It's not my place to judge anyway, just always amazed at the moveable feast that passes for the moral highground in SL.

Of course you did, you used a 99% statistic. That implies that the singles are only 1% of the sample.

Thats leaving them out to whatever extent that 1% is under-represented.

Of course its obvious the 99% number was an exaggeration - hence my reply with a long running SL forum's joke.

Since you decided to go all serious-like,

How is it you claim not to be judging people when you say 99% of the time their "love" is not "love" but just mutual masturbation? Is there some sort of scientific study to back this up? Otherwise it does come off as judgmental.

It occurs to me that at one time in American culture quite a bit of RL teen "love" involved quite a lot of mutual masturbation.

Sorry Collette.. I wasn't being all serious really.. (to smiley or not to smiley ..is something I can never decide on).

I'm not against masturbation at all .. mutual or otherwise. needless to say as a teen not in the USA, I practiced a considerable amount of self love as much as any other.

And you're right, the 99% thing was a silly.. rooky mistake.

At the end of the day though, I think my point stands. A "lot" (I don't know what %) of relationships in SL take place between people who are already attached to others in RL.

I think .. possibly.. that their RL partners would be very hurt if they knew what was going on in SL. The clicky sex stuff is all bollocks really.. but it's the use of the "Love" and "Soul Mate" stuff which would be more upsetting I think.

Despite this, these people get all whiney and snivelly when/if they discover that their SL "soul mate" has been unfaithful.

All I'm saying is that what goes around, comes around. You reap what you sow... you... mmm.. run out of dodgy adages..
