From: Bodhisatva Paperclip /me now worries someone will notice if I wear the same outfit twice =:0 Well, I've only seen you once, so . . . (me and my dots, sorry). On the other hand, I do wear the same outfits more than once I wear the same skin/hair/ears/tail/eyes for a while before I change. And I've been known to wear the same outfit for a while. On the other hand, I've also been known to change everything 800 times in the space of a minute while others watched confused and maybe horrified.

From: Lexxi Gynoid Now look who is making assumptions I said: When did I say that you would know nothing about high inventory counts? I had only been asking if you did ever change your avatar or your clothes. Then I dwindled away into dots. Of course I left it open to assumptions, and you made them. I had only meant that I was curious to what all else you could have in there without loading up your inventory with clothes and the like kind of inventory item. I, of course, never actually said that part until later. I have no dog in the necessity fight. I assumed because of the bait you put forth--don't pretend that's not obvious.

I normally meow and fly around at mice (see, I should stick to inane comments instead of more serious stuff ). I only later noticed that what I had written might be taken the wrong way, sorry

From: Ava Glasgow frequent threads here in RA indicate 3K-6K to be normal lol, I'm still abnormal then...I try to keep mine between 7000 & 8000. It reached slightly over 10K once and that was just way too much for me to deal with; I spent two weeks, off and on, clearing it down to 7000.

Michael ... the unintentional troll?
10-16-2007 12:38
Michael, on page 5 the first response to your comment about "necessity" was mine, below. After 7 pages of sometimes heated discussion of your comment, I think it's safe to say that your post did indeed lead to conflict. Pointless conflict too, since no one has learned anything or changed their mind. You may not mean to troll, but certainly you've enjoyed the contention, and have derailed a thread with a strident insistence on your essentially semantic point ... a thread that WAS at one time about intelligently containing inventory. Bravo? I think not. From: Nika Talaj *sigh* Michael. That which is necessary to one person may not be to another. Surely what Ann, or you, or I, thinks is necessary is none of anyone else's business. You are on the path to conflict here, why not just let it go?

Bravo? I think not. So, it is because of my post and my post alone that there is conflict? Ok...you go ahead and continue believing that I'm the only one involved in the drama. And actually--to be difficult because I love you--my input into the discussion actually turned a sterile uninteresting topic into a thought provoking drama mini-series. So, you can thank me for that. lol. One more thing: I would subtract the word 'intelligently' from your last sentence...it certainly wasn't needed in the context of your subject matter--you merely used it to 'sound' intelligent. The above isn't to say [you] or anyone else isn't intelligent...I'm simply saying it was an loaded word, placed unnecessarily in for effect.

From: Michael Bigwig Firstly, can we get a definitive answer as to whether inventory hording does actually create (or will create) performance issues? Let's get a straight answer here please.
Secondly, what in the name of Sam Elliot are some of you doing with over 5000 assets? That's just unnecessary. I guess if you give a RL pack-rat unlimited storage in a magic bag, they'll give OCD a new outlet.
It's certainly time for a cleaning on my part--I've never cleaned house once, and I've been around since '05. However, I'm still under the 1000 mark...go figure. From: Michael Bigwig Actually, I'm a liar--not on purpose however.
I have 5200 items in my inventory...and it's time for a Fall cleaning. I think I can condense that down to 3000 if I wasn't so busy...or dreaded such a boring task. this is actually a pretty good example of how your inventory can grow out of control without even realizing it. A lot of people are in similar boats they had no idea their inventory was a problem until a thread like this comes up and they actually check their number.

From: Bodhisatva Paperclip /me now worries someone will notice if I wear the same outfit twice =:0 Nah we assume that men have like 3 decent outfits and one pair of shoes. It's okay with us. Just don't freak out if we buy you boys stuff now and then.

From: Bodhisatva Paperclip /me now worries someone will notice if I wear the same outfit twice =:0 I wont be caught dead wearing the same outfit on two consecutive days. I'll wear an outfit twice but it must be a very long time in between. Actually, there are one or two that I am particularly partial to that I wear more than I should. That's very much like real life. I don't get the constant hair changing thing. But that's probably because men in RL don't change their hair that much (AS A RULE) so I'm not as likely to do it in SL. I'd prefer to see less of it though cause it sometimes makes it hard to spot my friends.

From: Colette Meiji A lot of people are in similar boats they had no idea their inventory was a problem until a thread like this comes up and they actually check their number. Now that you mention it...is there an easy way to find out how many items are in your inventory? I have to mess around in mine a bit, adding and deleting and such, and wait til the number eventually pops up.

A lot of people are in similar boats they had no idea their inventory was a problem until a thread like this comes up and they actually check their number. I completely agree Colette...if anyone was to make this direct hypocritical observation...it's you. Thank you. Yes, it is true. I've been busy building a ton of things, and my inventory has jumped excessively lately. I think I can manage 3-4k respectively. And the majority of my 'stuff' is useful to me (some just as reference material)--I can only imagine those of you that horde (yes, there's that word again) everything you get your hands on.

Clicking over to the Recent Items tab will usually bring it up fairly quickly, unless it's an uber-laggy location/day.

15k in items.
8k in textures.
A good 3-4k in building pre-fabs.
Not much I can do to cut it down.
LL could by giving me a way to NOT load the Library folder, as well as clearing out my "Recent" tab which has been accumulating items for the last 6 months reguardless of Support Tickets and Bug Reports.
I could reduce a lot if LL would simply allow FOLDERS to be placed in Objects. ie, so I could place complete Folders from my inventory into Prims on my land for backup. Or even just to place all the Folders in the Prims and then into my Inventory as ONE object instead of several hundred.
So, if LL has a problem with inventory size....umm...tell them to listen to any of the dozens of ideas from the Residents or have a nice big cup of STFU.
*is grouchy and tired and has heard this way to often in her SL time, and just wants LL to fix it instead of whine about it.* ~Jessy

Now, I know it's fun to dress up and get new things...but to say "I wouldn't be caught dead...", now that's where I think we have a problem.

From: Michael Bigwig horde (yes, there's that word again) I think you mean "hoard". You drama queen you. To "horde" a bunch of objects would presumably mean something like gather them into an unruly mob. Which, while it DOES describe my inventory, is probably not what you're after.

A new avatar with only the clothes issued on their backs has how much in inventory? I wouldn't feel terribly bad for having 3000 items because that might be close to how much you started with.

I use you as an example because your a man (sexual orientation notwithstanding--j/k) That's the fun to me in SL though Michael. I am not very vain at all in RL but SL allows me to have more clothes and better quality fashion than I could ever afford in RL. Just like I would never be able to afford my beautiful beach house either. The fantasy is the fun. Life is much more than a wardrobe, yes. I still wish we could delete our library. If, like Zaphod says, our inventories are like rolodexes or index cards, I'm carrying around an entire drawer that I absolutely can guarantee that I will never open ever again. One question though: When we Ruth, is the computer using our library to look up the default Ruth avatar? [Edit: Just saw Jessica's post above. Thanks!]

Classy. Mmmhmm, because it's all kinds of classy to insist on continued use of a term I've already told you several times I find objectionable. Given the whole 'there's that word again' taunt, why can't I at least insist that you use it correctly?
