Well I got a good idea of whats going from reading a few of the post, but I still don't see why some people are shocked on the outcome. If yout grief {grief is ruining the other person gameplay experience, even if you think its just harmless fun} and the person ask you to stop, you stop. You don't keep on going because you think its funny or harmless.

And if this group doesn't want the sterotype of being jerks, you remove the offending members. If you don't, well then that sterotype is going to stick.

Well, if you have convinced yourself that anyone who plays the game differently than you is a griefer, you will be glad to know that there are many people on the forums, including myself, who have cancelled thier accounts within a week of signing up.

Heres another story: The first night in my account, I joined up with four or five other people to dress like pirates and fly around in a huge ship. It sounds absurd, and it was, thats the whole point. While we were shouting "Shiver me timbers!" and running circles around people, we got threats of reporting and were attacked with pushguns. It was great when people played along, but even then I was struck by how xenophobic many people are- if you like roleplay, then stick with it. If you like making maps, we have no way of harming you.

The only way I can see someone becoming accepted into the community is to dress just like their little culture (the shoppers, the goths, the furries, whatever) and stand in a club, idling and playing a dance animation. Maybe you could take the time to rate each other up if you wanted a favor. No thanks. What a waste of the possibilities this engine provides. I came for the opportunity to try something new every day and was pretty disapointed with the state of things beyond SA HQ. Many thanks to the cool goons who traded stuff and ran around with me and an enthusiastic rolleyes to the rest.

I see nothing wrong with roleplay, I love roleplay. My problem is when your roleplay distrupts the way I want to play my second life. Not everyone wants to play your way so you have no reason to force it on others, You let us in on what's going on we'll either play along or ask you to leave cause we don't like it simple as that. It's when you try to force your roleplay on other people that problems arise

Whoa there spanky. I got more then good enough idea of what happened, being the first 2 pages explain both sides. I'm the type of person that doesn't really give a damn how you play the game, as long as its not ruining other peoples gameplay. If I'm getting shot up when I'm trying to make something, then yeah, I'll be a little upset. Thats an example, and I don't want to hear "Read the post agian, thats not what happened. This is completely different."

Maeve, I normally dont personally attack someone, but your close minded views are outdated. (*edited out personal attack) and go back to dancing in a club pretending to hav e "fun". I have been playing SL for over a year and a half, and the most fun I have had ingame was the time when I was with w-hat over the past few days. The pirate thing really was incredibly fun, especially when our ship blew up right at the edge of the SL public library! We went around plundering the "word things" and stole some expresso while jade lilly continued to play on the piano. After our ship was repaired, our leader forgot some wood half on the library and half on the linden owned land. Since we didnt want to be assholes, the owner of that piece gave one of jade's friends mod permissions to delete it. If we were really griefers, would we do this? No, we would have let it rot there and ruin her building.

Oh, and to reiterate, (*edited out personal attack)

Anne, what is your problem. Not everyone likes to play like you do, and if you found people that do, then great for you. The experience you described sounded lame to me, but its how you like to play. I have fun building things and talking to people, and such. Because all the things you can do in SL, your gonna have many people who play the game differently. If your griefing others, then theres no problem with the way you play. Have fun with SL.

(*edited to delete personal attack), if you think SL is a way of life(as LL seems to want it to be) instead of a fun game, I can honestly say you need help.

Sheesh - calm yourself! Maeve is only making a good point. Obviously not one you want to hear or vaguely agree with, but when you are in her kitchen, you have to cook by the general rules. Its not an absurd idea - and certainly shouldn't be so threatening to you that you resort to infantile attacks such as above. Go blow up another pirate ship there popeye.

Actually tren, this is my friends account. I am Ryen Jade, my game consists mostly of building, scripting, 2d design, and animation. I also enjoy sharing items with my friends as well as chatting with them. I am not in SL for the money, since every one of my objects is priced 100L$ or lower. Also tren, may want to do some research into who you are talking about, since I have been in world for over a year and a half now and am a well recieved community member. In fact, my witty responses such as this on is what makes me a well known figure. What? This wasnt witty? Ok then, tren, find out what this means, im sure my w-hat breathern know :downs:

Edit: Ursa, before I respond I want you to know I respect you, and I dont want this reply to change that. If you read her response you will see that, while see does make a good point, her head is still up her ass. I hate how newbies are joining second life today thinking its a way of life. Hate to tell you, it isnt. Second life is a game, I said it, SECOND LIFE IS A GAME

there! I said it! Second life is a game. Not a porno, not a 'club' (whats the fun of going to a club in a virtual world? Isnt clubbing about the adrenaline rush?), not a money tool, not a marketing tool. Second life is a game, it is ment for you to join and have fun, not have virtual sex (stupid), not go 'clubbing' (stupid in a virtual world), it is ment as a communication tool, as a place where you can share your creations with the world at the click of a mouse. Where you can share ideas, and frankly these people who are either in the game for money or to support those trying to make money, while simultaniously creating a tremendous amount of drama and ruining everyones fun (see catherine cottons reason for leaving, while I agree she needs a break from SL, she made some good points on SL's current state). Frankly I think I may forge my age and try to get into the teen grid if it will get me the fuck away from the drama created here. I joined Second Life to have fun, I never read anything about "DRAMA!" on the front page or I would have stayed the fuck away. I never read anything about "HAVE FUN AND GET SUSPENDED!" on the front page, but I will be telling people my full experiances with second life when they request it. I really hate to say this, but it seems all of www.somethingawful.com hates second life as of now. Why? Because of this single incident. I really think LL shot themselves in the foot with their policy, "guilty until......well guilty anyway because we dont want to admit our mistakes" is possibly the worst administration, well, ever.

Hmm, I just relized I went on a massive rant, please forgive me, but I think it was needed to get some of these things off my chest.

Jesus H Mary and Joseph. Close minded views? Play however you want, just don't force your views onto someone else. She has a point that most normal people would agree with. (*edited to delete personal attack) And Mae, don't argue with an idiot, they just drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

If you were respected in any way, you would not be saying the stuff you are saying now. Personally, I never heard of you, and I don't care to. You playing the game for a long time and from what you say, being a respected community member, doesn't make up for you being a dick right now.

You have a bit of an ego problem. You really think that your word is greater then someone elses, or that you are a real smart guy. The truth is, your not. (*edited to delete personal attack)

Well, after this post I'm gone. I shouldn't be fighting. It's not like your gonna change your opinion based on what I said. Just think about this. Imagine one of the few things you like to do in second life is just hang out with a group of friends, prehaphs just talk or script, or what ever. Now some other guy comes in, pushes you around, cages you, throw you around and such. You aren't having much fun, because your being taken away from the thing you like to do in second life, and instead, you are being thrown around. It no longer becomes a fun game for you, and you get upset over it. If you were in that place and you don't mind, replace all the yous and put in some other guy. Just think how this guy feels when the game enjoys no longer becomes fun because another guy gets a kick out of disrupting his gameplay.

Ryan - you are mad, understandably - but please don't come in under someone elses acct. who joined up not so long ago and say stuff like that. Its confusing and makes me waste an answer - because I wouldn't have responded had I known you said it. I woulda just walked away shaking my head - which is what I will do now. I am sorry it has come to this for you. But you have been here long enough to know that MANY people (not necessarily me) take this game to be an extension of their RLs.

Well I guess another post is needed to clear up what I was saying.

I was using an example. A random example. If I were at the Shelter at the time it happened, I could comment further. If a person asks you to stop, please stop. Even if you feel its causing no harm, you have to keep in mind that not everyone feels or plays the game like you do.
