I was a mime, and that situation was handled so ridiculously poorly that I have to wonder at what mysterious drugs the administrators have been partaking of.

Look people, the signs are noncorporeal. We couldn't hit anyone with them or interact with other people with them in any way even if we WANTED to. If you don't believe me, feel free to contact me ingame and I'll GIVE you a sign for you to examine.

Also, as was stated above, we were making a great point to not start fights or bump people around. If you got bumped into, crikey, it couldn't have been intentional, and it certainly wasn't enough to force you to move places. Hell, I get bumped into worse when I'm trying to stand around the welcome area and chill by people trying to navigate the throng.

Also, yes, we did cluster around one person on our way out. It's also worth noting that the person in question ACTUALLY PLAYED ALONG, saying something to the effect of 'hey I am loved' or whatever before all hell broke loose. However, let's discount that entirely. Look instead at the fact that there simply weren't enough of us to surround someone to the point where they couldn't move even IF that had been our intent - which, again, it wasn't.

The point at which it all seemed to go to hell was when the person with the little old lady / walker avatar used a custom animation to fall over (again, an event which we couldn't have triggered ourselves even if we had wanted to), and suddenly people were screaming about how we knocked her over (again, impossible) and how we were terrible monsters.

People started getting ejected, I was one of the first to go, and from what I hear some people got negatively rated.

You know what? Not only did I not negatively rate anyone, I actually POSITIVELY rated at least one person.

And even if I did? What is the point of HAVING a rating system if you cannot use it? I'm honestly afraid to make an honest negative rating now, because I am certain my neg-rating that means 'I do not think you are skilled at building items' will be interpreted as 'I think you are a doodyhead and your butt smells' and I'll get banned for an indeterminate period of time without being given the ability to explain my actions.

It would be nice if they would just rename the rating system to 'fellatio' and get it over with, really, because that's what it is.

Oh, and also the sim crashed after it all happened. Because, you know, that HAD to be our fault. Nothing to do with the, what is it now, 5 patches in a week? Nothing at ALL to do with instability.

So what the core of the argument against us here is that a bunch of people went to a club all dressed alike. Intent is beyond the scope of the argument, since we KNOW what our intent was, and several of you are CERTAIN you KNOW what our intent was, so let's not get into a screaming match about that.

What the core of the argument is here is that we all showed up dressed alike, and freaked you out, even though we didn't actually DO anything.

And -we're- being labelled as immature?

^^^ couldnt of said it better myself.

A silly little incident like this causes alot of bad word of mouth on a forum with over fifty-two thousand paid members... one that has two thousand plus non members reading at any given time. Many of which are avid gamers.

Honestly? If this had happened before my trial was over, I would have cancelled my account on the spot. As it is, I've already paid my one-time entry fee, so I might as well derive what enjoyment I can out of this. I know several people with paying accounts that are either leaving entirely or downgrading to basic, non-paying accounts over just this event. Also, my word-of-mouth about Second Life has changed from 'this is an amazing game' to 'this is fun but cancel it before the trial is over because the administration is a sad, sad joke'.

Bad form, Linden Labs.

Cry me a river, build me a bridge, and get over it. Whatever your intentions people felt harassed so they reported you it's how the system works.

Yes. But the admins have the responsibiity of making sure the complaint is a valid one and warrants banning. This would involve taking great effort of talking to both parties and trying to understand the situation before taking any action. When the admins only listen to the party reporting the abuse, this tips the balance of power to those that complain, as opposed to the ones being accused, when ideally there would be an equal balance. Sure they read the logs, but any conversation must be understood in context,. And context can only be understood by talking to the person that was engaged in the conversation.

Right, my point is not that we should not have been reported, my point is that the report was handled poorly. By all means, if you feel infringed upon, file as many reports as you wish. It just seems that the administrators have a blanket 'guilty until proven otherwise' policy that means that if you are in the vicinity of mayhem, or associated at all with someone breaking the rules, you will be banned. Hell, at least one member of our group recieved a one-hour ban, and they weren't even THERE. They were back at our land, working on a project, and out of nowhere, woop, banned.

Regardless of whether or not you think our actions were kosher, SURELY you can see the injustice in that, at least.

Definitely something that could be expected from someone who has the following profile info:
Born 2/7/2004
Behavior +15 -1
Appearance +18 -1
Building +7 -1
Given +75 -62

To quote someone whose opinion you apparently value, "Your input is apperciated, please hold as we transfer you to someone who" might want to throw YOU a pity party.

Ryen,

With all due respect, you should know that mass negging is considered a violation.

I hate to see you get suspended, but I think it was probably that rather than the blank signs and purported circling and/or bumping that got you in trouble.

OK, but this statement is why I said that; '..and guests began to complain they were receiving negative rates from the remaining mimes.'

It's kind of unlikely (in my mind) that the remaining mimes started to neg rate people without collusion.

Why did some of the mimes single the furry out?

Just cancelled my account. This is the worst moderation in a game I have ever seen in my life, beating out Risk Your Life by leaps and bounds -- something I thought was an impossibility.

Sounds like a typical MU* circle-jerk to me, with the added bonus of money being on the line.

Ten to one, the folks being banned are either trial customers or flat-fee members, without monthly payments-- or relatively low ones, compared to their detractors. A drama bomb goes off, the admins think 'griefing newbies' or more cynically 'non-renting subscribers', and they drop the hammer rather than risk ruffling the regulars' feathers.

Two quotes from forums.somethingawful.com , where there is a mass exodus because of this thread and event.

Here is something to think about - I started my account, uh, yesterday, and while I was standing around on my group's land, i received a 1 hour ban, at the same time the 'mimes' recieved a ban. I Hadn't even left our groups land that day. Go figure.

I organized the mime event. Hell, I even made the mime costumes and chose a location for our "protest" at random.

The idea was that it was all going to be in good fun. Noone was allowed to grief anyone else. Noone was allowed to get in anyone's way. Noone was allowed to even speak.

The idea was to stand off to the side for a few minutes, get some fun reactions to us dressed up as mimes carrying blank protest signs and leave.

Somewhere, someone without a sense of humor took things way too seriously. You know, in life, even in Second Life, it's sometimes OK to laugh a little. To those telling us to grow up for this, I say you missed the point entirely. Random humor, especially when it's good natured and nonprovocative is the best around. Whomever reported us for ruining their event or for the time we had someone dress up as pacman and had the ghosts chase him once around an outdoor event (again, not getting in anyone's way) are seriously anal retentive.

Open your ass and let your head out once in a while. Fresh air is nice.

I had nothing to do with this, but seconded.

SL is getting way too stuffy and serious lately.
