the dock sucks.

Ah, but it's not anymore, it's an argument between running the same OS on really expensive hardware or cheap as chips hardware ;) (tongue firmly in cheek, don't worry)
No! No! All wrong!

First Hamlet writes about it in his blog, THEN we get all worked up about it! My god, I'm surrounded by amateurs!

Damn. Now I have to edit my ranting, since people actually read it. LoL. Sometimes by brain does a disconnect and that what my figers come up with.

Mine does too, but I call it 'drunk'.

No offense to the Ham, but this list is just a way for him to stay relevent.

In my opinion his blog's gone downhill since he went indie; there's very little meat in his posts. A few paragraphs talking about posts he did 3 years ago, several dozen pleas fo rpeople to please fill out his demographics survey, and a guest writer or two. Mmh. I can do better on my blog, and I'm not even a professional writer.

#1 will be, of course, Anshe Chung. Period, full stop.

Fizik will probably be in there somewhere too, and a dollar says it's because he was recently mentioned in a NWN article.

I dunno... we all impact SL in our own ways. The world's getting so big now that it's becoming very hard to stay above the herd. People dont have the influence you once would (theoretically) wield.

I'm just happy I'm known for my forum posts and architecture, and more recently, my Secondcast ramblings.

And the funny thing is Anshe told us we should all buy Ansche dollahs (A$$) and a lot of us told her to fuck off.

Jade Lily told us all to put our money in a prim to help cancer research... and a lot of us gave hand over fist.

Makes you ponder what 'influence' is.. in the power to move people Jade wins hands down, despite Miss Chungs tracts of land and linden dollah balance.

When it comes to 'changing Second Life' I think there are many accomplishments that overshadow hers... she did what others did on a bigger scale.

Same goes for casinos (see Ama Omega)
Same goes for clubs (Big John Jade)

Unfortunately, I can't find a link. Either the thread is too old, or it's been abducted by aliens, or Taco has used his impressive FIC influence to have it smuggled out of the vault. I searched General for 'Upskirt' and for 'Outrageously Offended' but neither bore fruit.

But take my word for it, you would have loved it! I never thought Taco and I would get along after that thread, but I ended up <3ing him anyway.

I don't go to clubs, so you'll have to forgive me if I miss out someone big..

But I'd think Anshe (duh) Flip and Cris will be up in the top 5 somewhere..

Moopf..........I can only say:

Comedy Gold! (with apologies to Lecktor, who I'm sure is now going to sue me for using those words) :D

As far as I'm concerned, Taco Rubio is a genius, with or without his Healing Oven Mitts!

How many of those names really have influence? And how many are names from the past...? Even when you accept that, how many really had influence then?

Congrats to all who made the list, but Cory???? He/she was in SL for about 3 days tops... I mean Eh?

Of the ones in the list so far, the only one who deserves to be there is Marilyn... at least she stood out in the crowd!

Sure, a few others are big names, and I would like to think, friends... but influential? Well, maybe that time Aimee and Phillip... but that would be naming names :p

Of course, the real question is... even as a Linden, did Hamlet really have any influence of his own? Sure, he was a biased journalist, no more nor less corrupt than any (I should know, I was on the losing end once)... but be honest, did what he wrote ever matter?

His blog is, more often than not, the first window people get to peer into the world of Second Life. his blog got referenced many many times for press coverage and all that, and newbies were often directed to his writings to get a feel for what SL is all about.

Well, it was anyway. Now that he's so indie his shirt don't fit, his relevancy is probably in sharp decline. He's no more relevent than my blog or Prok's blog or Cristiano's blog.

Hrmmm. This is a tough call. On one hand, the Internet age means anybody who can create an account on Blogger.com can have the same voice as a New York Times journalist. We have certainly seen examples where the blog-o-sphere has trumped the "mainstream media" in terms of accuracy and even general interest.

On the other hand, when you pit the average hobbyist blogger against a professional journalist who is paid and published by Salon, Wired, Kotaku, The Los Angeles Times, Lingua Franca, Game Developer, Gamespot, Gameslice, and many others ... well frankly that DOES seem more relevant! No offense to other bloggers (including ME and my own amateaur contributions to SLOG)

If the work of other bloggers resonates enough with readers where a company like Federated Media wants to pay them to do their THANG, then I think it would be unfair (and a bit inaccurate) to say that blogger is no more relevant than anybody else. They must be doing something right!

That said, nobody should take Hamlet's TOP TEN as some official stamp, even Hamlet admits that. I saw this article as simply an interesting and entertaining read.
