Yes. And Yes.

Flipper too.

Ha! I doubt it. I'd probably make the top 100 but don't have enough time to really create everything I'd like. :) Thanks for the thought though, hehehehe.

Regards,

-Flip

I think he forget to add "Selling Freebies and being scandalous to gain a new persons trust" as part of JF's wonderful impact on SL...

Dunno - lets see we're talking influence so.....

How many people turned up for the virtual book signing....

How many people turned up for the relay for life event...

How many people turned up to the Second Life Convention?

Dunno Flip - you sorta fit the bill more than some.

How many people won't even read this post because they're currently at Panache attending the Hair Fair?

Problem with lists like this is the world is way too large, I'm sure theres a good portion of folks out there who have never heard of you, me, or anyone thats gonna be on that list.

To prove the point - I can sneak into a Teazers newbie building class with ease - I've done it several times with Nolan Nash, Ferran Brodsky and a few others. Try it - its fun and interesting and I got 500L$ that says you won't be recognized by the instructor or the class :)

As I say in the Kotaku story, the list is sure-to-disputed-- and it should be, as that's part of the fun (hopefully.) This is just my own opinionated list based on my own reporting, and I'm not claiming it's anything more than that. I'd love to see alternative Top 10 lists, with explanations for why each Resident belongs there. In fact, if people post them here, I'd love to run them on NWN.

Also, be sure to take Aleks' survey, linked to in the article, because Aleks' is the one who's doing the academically rigorous study of this. (Of course, academia being what it is, it may not see the light of day until SL is like 1,000,000 plus, when a whole new Top Ten rules the roost.)

Oh yeah. Being excluded from the power elite is real fun, Hamlet. Why do you make people cry?

Please stop with the witty remarks, I keep choking on my drink and I don't have one of those medical emergency call buttons...

Oh dear Lord!

Personally I think Prokofy would say this is classic disinformation put out by the real FIC to draw attention to people whose profile is high, and who have made contributions the FIC consider worthwhile. But what do I know?

We have, as a culture a natural preference to organize and categorize. We like lists, they quantify and they validate. A list of the most influential people lets others say "ooh look I know Aimee Weber, and she is one of the top ten." We no longer see any of them as people but as icons we are meant to please. Its just like the Philip worship we see-people boasting over once having had a 3 word exchange with him. Or even better, one resident telling another in the land an economy forum he is commiting hubris to think a C.E.O. would respond to him (in one of those generally aimed posts disagreeing with LL economics). We are starstruck, and this stuipid list makes stars out of a handful, and by is devisive nature relegates the rest of us to fawing ildolators.

Fuck that with a goddamed chainsaw. You can take the list and others like it, including the god damned high scores type things and put it straight up you virtual butthole, which I will happily buid, texture and script for you. I guarangoddamnedtee that will not make me rich or influential. So what.

And yes, yet again the people on the list are drawn from a very narrow spectrum, and in truth, a lot of them from the forums. In truth I think many of them have done some amazing things worthy of admiration. Some of them are even on my freinds list, does that make me special? But really, in all honesty, most of them have zero impact on my Second Life expereince. Yes I have bought the product and read the industry reviews. So what? I use Windows XP, but Bill Gates has abosultely zero impact on my life. Same with many on this list. I like thier stuff, respect thier talent, admire their vision. But they aren't the people hanging out with me, giving me something of themselves by and large. Its those people that are my friends.

Recently I was on very early in the morning with someone on my freinds list who gave me probably the most amazing and wonderful compliment I could imagine as a freind. That is what influences my second life. A 3:30 am conversation has more do with why I stay in SL than anything that would make a person appear on the list.

Eh well this was a rant and half. I was debating deleting it, but I did say one thing worth saying. The rest of it, eh, It was fun.

If you made it on the list, congrats and all for being recognized for your hard work. If you compiled the list, please spend more time in SL to find stories that are really worth reading about. 180,000 people must have something more to say than Creative Influence,
Commercial Impact, Connection Network. This article is news like saying "Ansche Chung Made a lot of money" is news-yeah so?

Some people pay good money for ass biting. Do they do that at Edge?

Any SL Power Elite Top Ten list that doesn't mention Mrs. Rosedale, mother of Philip, is entirely moot and virtually laughable.

We all know who pulls the strings. And I'll bet my bottom dollar she makes a hell of a pot roast too.

Just for the record, there is no truth to the rumor that I'm having Philip's baby. You got me confused with Aimee.
