Hamlet names "The Power Elite" of Second Life

Clio is definitely on my Cute and Loveable and Courageous lists!

Nah lets mention them every chance we get! But lets mention them for what they are doing, not how they are 'ranked with the rest of the world'.

Isn't that what a journalist does? go out and find the stories? Why cop out on fodder for 'the top 10 people I know!', why not do STORIES.. go out and find what the cool shit is and REPORT on it.

Thats what I'd like to see - and not just pulled from a hat of who I've seen before.. go out and look - as the world gets bigger its even MORE important to go out and seek these things out.

yanno i would not dissagree with this but you know as well as i do that if i posted soemthing about how much i like your new swimmer there would be a as many posts about how foul mouthed you are and peopel wanting to know why i didn't mention another anim or soem thing basically..forteh most parts anything posted in here any ways that calls positive attention to people is immediatly trolled and ridiculed
and whats wrong with saying these 25 peopel have had teh most impact on MY SL without doing indepth stories? it could be used by others to check out what those peopel have done ( i know whatta concept actually taking soem thing positive away *gasp*)

This is probably true - my thinking however was maybe this is the sort of thing that people 'reporting' should do on thier blogs as opposed to doing here on the forums - get out past the folks who have been here forever - the 'staple grab bag' and go into the world and see the cool stuff thats being done every day by people they never heard of.

A 'list' simply gets 'people I know of' and orders them in levels of popularity - the same names (I asked for mine to be taken off the damn thing) over and over and yet every time I go into the world past the doorstop of my own lab I see something cool and new that will nary get a mention.

and do so all the time, and see stuff all over that makes me go WOW!
but i guess if the forums for Second Life is not a place to post things about Second Life, then i guess i dunno where would be, in general i think you just gotta take the lists for what they are, one persons opinion about whatever the subject is, and leave it at that..the only people they "hurt" are those who are so insecure that being left off hurts their feelings, and others may learn about something kewl.
Haveing said that, i also think there are other ways to point out kewl places, Kiamat Dusk's thread about kewl places to visit is a great one and i have posted to it several times
Also i think one thing peopel need to remember, is a numbered List is not automatically a ranking, but can be just a way to order a list.

I agree - and Kiamats 'post your cool places' is an excellent use of the forums, people can add to it and go visit. It's inclusive and not exclusive.

If the post was say 'the top 10 coolest places to see in SL' that would certainly cause animosity.

A thread 'who do you think has influenced SL' would do better than a 'Top 10 most influential people in SL.

Personally I ask to be removed from lists - I said in my appeal to this particular one that the comments I get from people in world, and folks using the things I make are more than enough reward.

I think you have really hit the nail on the head here Siggy. I think those who are most worthy of being on a 'list', are those that would cringe at the thought of being on one.

People will always make lists and rank 'stuff', it's sensational 'quantitative' stuff. It makes the shallow feel great, makes the shallow feel shitty, makes the rest giggle. I think it's a shame when people would assume that the only reason that someone would knock a 'list', is because they're not on it.

PS Why am I not on the list? OMGUALLSuxxorZ!!!

Heh, there will always be lists, and there will always be some who find more meaning in them than others.
