Been a bit since anyone posted here, so here are a few sculpts together. Badger Avatar is the work of Nix Sands and I, the tiny Appaloosa a collaboration with Martini Discolavante (Badger is a freebie at the Caledon Oxbridge portal, if you should want one)..

I decided to challenge myself.

When i got into terraforming with those ever loved raw files.

i took my original height maps and made sculpty's out of them

this is the first actual request i was given.

i even used the sims own actual shape and shadowing for the texture.

no external editing for the texture except resizing.

that is a nearly topographical match to the Isle of Iona in Scotland.

I've made a few sculpted items for a new restaurant like this sliced bread that looks like 4-5 prims but actually is just 1 sculptie.

well done. Any restaurant would be short on prims. This would be a nice addition.

This is my first creation.

A Modifiable Sign!
http://s26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/FuryAvatars/Second%20Life/?action=view&current=ModifiableSignbySerenity_001.png

Modifiable only to put your own pictures, posters, signs on the actual sign and move and stretch em. Modifying the sign itself is a no-no. :p

I had a sudden desire for pickle, so here it is. The texture took longer than the modelling :-) (love the bumpmap feature in Maya!).

Ha! 'Do Not Ride the Pickle' :D

That texture looks awesome. I can hear it crunch from here.

People just don't pay attention to signs, do they?

I confess to JUST having downloaded the Maya PLE, and am still working my slow way through the tutorials. Given that low level of knowledge, could you explain how the bumpmap feature works? I thought we could only use the native bumpmap files in SL. Or is it incorporated in your texture bake?

Trees are my creative nemesis, but I've finally grown some oak trees that I like. :)

I refuse to use flat alpha-trans textures for the leaves so I am always experimenting with new ways to create the foliage. I like the way that these turned out - sort of a cross between cartoony and realistic. A good fit for the style of my other plants and flowers.

I made 4 versions from the same 6 sculpted shapes and they all include scripted options for multiple bark and leaf textures. 10 to 23 prims. Still a bit primmy but not as bad as many popular trees.

In you need more than 1 prim you are doing it wrong.
12-13-2008 02:13
1 prim makes 1 torterra. (or any other pokemon I suppose, since this one is the trickiest)
That is a turtle with a tree and rocks on its back.
Not finished and so far just a test how much 1 prim can become with a 8x128 sculptmap.

To make it 1 prim, the mesh is basically fold like a balloon-animal.
From now on I pity the fool who needs more than 2 prims for a tree or more than 3 prims for anything else (not counting colision boxes), except it he wants a higher resolution texture, wich seriously sucks on 8x128er sculptmaps, they only display 4x4 (to 4X32) pixel on 2 polygons for the whole untiled-mesh-texture (but that hardly counts for 2-prim trees that can have tiled textures).

Or a LOD resistant model.. Some consider it foolish to ignore anything but the highest LOD levels with a sculptie.

My first try
01-23-2009 21:45
Was making this for a friend. It is a huge bong. I think it is 3 parts, the main bong, the small tube and the ao ball. The sculptie part is the big glass ball with big glass tube. I'm quite proud of it for my first time lol.
