Well, haven't got the animations for the mermaid part yet, but that's all as never mind for this thread.
I loved sculpting this seahorse, they have such nice knobbly bits that worked very easily with the vertices. ![]() What is Second Life if we can't fly around on a seahorse in the middle of the night when we ought be sleeping? _____________________

I want to export or copy some way of caturing the full 3d image of my avatar? Does anyone know how to do that? Stop it. You made a thread, that's enough. Crossposting is bad. Crossposting into completely unrelated threads is worse. Stop. It. You'll get your answer, just wait for your thread to be answered. _____________________

I think I have beaten the 'Monster' that is Blender, lol. I got a bathtub made tonight after a lot of trial and error. I'm also making my sculpts free form in Blender which I thought would be impossible, but found face and vertices's selecting and manipulating a breeze. ![]() Not sure if its me or not but the image is corrupted..can't see what you have made! -whyroc _____________________

odd, i'm getting the image (though it could be local whereas it's hosted on my server) but the option to upload as an attachment wasn't working the day I posted. I can always try flushing it on my end though to see if that helps. frustrating because, people are not seeing the same things I might be seeing on the web and I've been trying to get this through to my Tech (partner) who doesn't believe, me so thanks
![]() *Also Whyroc, what exactly are you seeing if anything?, is it the 'garbled jpeg vomit' (I've seen all too many times as of this year on others posts) or is it not displaying any image at all? here is a direct link to the image though http://www.garhunt.com/hunter188/assets/images/SculptyBathtubShot_1a.jpg _____________________

his images are showing fine for me. I remember having had a problem with forum images at one time, I don't remember what the problem (or the Fix) was.
what i see looks something like a fauceted bathtub with water in it. there does seem to be a LOD failure though. _____________________

Zen, there is no LOD failure in this and it's not supposed to be an perfect square cornered tub.
would have been nice to know this way before hand though guys. _____________________

Another work in progress, this time a (mostly) sculpted Sandrail buggy, using the technique for multi-part sculpties that was recently described in another thread, as well as a (for me) new trick that I used to get the tubes to look smooth. Detailed write-up below. I've colored the sculpted parts for your convenience, as you can see, the basic frame is just 3 prims.
![]() This one was much trickier than the "normal" car I did before because of the frame rails. When I saw the other thread about multi-part sculpties I was quite excited and directly went to incorporate it here. But then I ran into another problem. As some of you udoubtedly experienced, creating large sculpties with multiple delicate parts tends to create problems due to the 8-bit resolution of sculpt maps and the 32x32 resolution of the sculpt mesh. In particular, if you model free-hand and just bake, you will most likely get steps or jagged edges. There is a workaround to this; unfortunately I can only describe for blender (since it's the only program I use for modeling), but I'm fairly sure it's applicable to most other 3D software as well. After freehand modeling is finished, make a copy of the object, then resize it to 2.65 units (because in blender, the lowest grid resolution is 0.01 => 256 steps at that resolution), and, while zoomed in to the lowest grid resolution, snapping all vertices to the grid. Then you can manually clean up any vertices that aren't where they are supposed to be, which tends to happen especially to circular or oval cross sections. However, as I wrote, if the sculpty has a lot of delicate, rounded shapes such as the frame tubes here, this is often not satisfying because frequently the resolution isn't enough to fit 32 vertices into something resembling a circle and you end up with flat portions that don't look very good. The solution to this that I used here is, I modeled with a cross section of just 8 vertices but normal vertical resolution, thus giving me a 8x32 mesh. The result was then baked to a 16x32 image, which I loaded up into the GIMP and stretched it to 32x64 with no interpolation. After that, I selected the last pixel column on the right and stretched it another 33 pixels to end up with a 64x64 image. You can also just resize the 16x64 image directly to 64x64, but then you will get sharp edges. What this does is, it effectively reduces the horizontal LOD of the sculpted mesh by collapsing 16 columns of vertices that are described by the right part of the sculpt map into a single one. It does create a sharp edge, but it's hard to notice because the rest is smooth. Now, the left-most 16 pixels describing the 8-vertex cross section I originally used were stretched using no interpolation (aka nearest neighbor) and thus, every second vertex column should in theory be collapsed unto the last one before it too, but in-world this is not the case (the tubes have a 16-vertex cross section). I'm not sure why exactly that happens, but as it hasn't created any problems so far, I don't really care. Sorry if that's too technical, I just don't have screenshots at hand to illustrate right now (okay, I couldn't be bothered to make any. I'm a lazy ass ;P). If something's not clear, please ask. |

I don't think I posted this before. The sculpts are fairly basic (just the pillars) but they are effective, I think.

Just a quick sculptie I did to test the textured export to LSL in the Blender scripts. It's a mushroom. Both the model and texture were created in Blender and the sculptie was rebuilt in Second Life by the exported LSL script.

Loving that buggy, hope the end product has a good deal of bounce in those shocks and kicks up clouds of dust
