Thank you both!!! It was my first actual sculpted prim project, other than just making individual sculpted prims for learning purposes, and I bit off more than I could chew so it took me forever :)

Well... When I say it took forever, I do mean it took a few months. I must have tweaked and fiddled and started over enough times to make up for a few projects, lol. But thanks for the compliment!!!

By the way, I showed my wife and daughter the snapshot of the My Little Pony you posted above, and they absolutely loved it! It's very cute :)

That Katana is kick ass. One of the best I've seen. Very pro. Not only solid modeling, but super nice texture work.

Here are some pictures of the katana I'm building for the Combat: Samurai Island combat system. It is made primarily out of sculpted prims, which wasn't originally intended, but I have to say that I am quite pleased with the results as well as how much I've learned while constructing it.

My toolset is pretty budget-friendly for the most part, the most expensive thing being ZBrush for the texturing. I used AC3D for the modelling, with a little bit of help from XSI Mod Tool (free), and PaintShop Pro X for the textures.

I don't RP at all, but I might just have to purchase that one to hang on the wall...that's how nice it is.

What program do you model in?

I can handle creating a nice mount for it (unless you have one made already)...

Nah, stick around...keep making swords.

I just checked out your webpage--hell man, *all* your shit is pro. Love it. Great work. I'm going to go check out your shop right now and pick up the new piece.

Thanks.

You should really consider checking out the "NOT JUST ANOTHER" Texturing Competition I host. There's some super talented folks involved, and you'd fit right in. The purse is very handsome too.

I model in AC3D mostly, but use XSI Mod Tool to do some stuff that AC3D just isn't suited for. Basically "budget-friendly" tools, though I did decide that ZBrush was worth the price tag for texturing. I also use PaintShop Pro X, again for budget reasons.

Sadly, I don't have a mount :( I just haven't really found the time to make one, even though I know it would really add a nice touch.

I can't take credit for all of the weapons you see on my website, as most of them are made by other C:SI developers : Ayame Musashi, Archanox Underthorn, and Esprite Xavier. I'm actually the "new guy", with only two weapons under my belt :)

It's very rewarding to see that people like what I've done, though. As much as I like to complain about Second Life's instability and quirks, it's really a great platform for learning to do creative things and to share them with others. Prior to making SL stuff, I never did anything I would consider "artistic", unless you consider writing code artistic :)

I'm flattered :) It takes me so many iterations to make anything even remotely decent, and more than half of that is just luck, I don't think I'd be a very good contestant. But I'd love to check out everyone else's stuff!

Here's some new projects of mine. The horse, for one thing, is mostly sculpties and is 24 prims (not bad for a rideable horse), and the saddle is something I'm still working on. It needs a few texture touch ups and to be scripted to move properly with the horse (There's a trick with jumping that separates the horse and rider's bum, and the saddle has to go to the right place and not stay stuck to the rider.)

Since the forum change, I don't know how to insert images directly. If anyone could clue me in, I'll redo these.

Hell ya. That's some very nice texturing. Excellent use of baked shadows. Great choice of highlighting. Very good stuff. Very real.

Absolutely beautiful work, Fiona. I especially like the baked shading on the saddle. BTW, just use the IMG tag for photobucket, and it will post.

Well, like parents flashing pictures of their progeny, I suppose I'll take this as an excuse to post a picture of some of my silly ponies. Well, a Shire Horse, actually--a BIT bigger than a pony. But they had such cute snuzzles, I couldn't resist making one--

For that one, I outlined in Archipelis, then imported to Wings3D to shape. Plain vanilla Photoshop combined with Sculpty Space for texturing, reimport the texture to Wings and use that as a guide for the final sculpting. Needless to say, fairly exciting with my new Zbrush, as all those steps can be done "inhouse". Still a LOT to learn there, but here's my rough draft of an Arabian (please ignore the ugly mane...):

Sculpts are a godsend for the horsey set in Second Life. As Fiona said, one can completely slash the prim count. That means fewer prims to animate, which translates into MUCH smoother animations. Here's a little video of the above pudgy pony prancing--I tried to turn sidewise to demonstrate the leg animations--
http://www.wegame.com/watch/Shire_Horse_Jumping/

Okies, that's probably far more than enough for now :) Happy trails!

Great job on the animations Virrginia! That looks awesome. So much amazing work being done now. I've been slacking lately and really need to get back in the saddle (so to speak). :)

Lovely work from the Father of SculptyPaint! Is origami a new sculptypaint function? I love the nice sharp edges.
