Other people's kids are great. Most of the time. Sometimes. Rarely. I rest my case.

I mean lets get serious Oryx. And no, I honestly havent found a man I want to father my kid even if I wanted a baby anyway. Most of my friends dont. It doesnt seem to me to be a requirement to my being a woman. _____________________

Jig,
Key is not your parents. SL childern are not doomed to inherient our genetic flaws. While I never thought you would get into being or having a kid on SL, I never thought you would bash someone else's expressions or feelings. I guess this one hits too close for some reason -- not a put down or an attack, just something i gather from what you have said. |

I think the recommendation of foster parenting is a good idea before you adopt. And if you're asking, it's obvious you need more time to think about this idea.
Do you have any other goals you are currently considering pursuing? School? A part time business? Anything? If you have several goals it is best to take on one at a time and make a commitment. These are called "short term" goals and/or taking baby steps to a main goal. Baby steps is never bad advice when you have "doubts" about a particular goal or path. |

Yosef as something I do in my "need to give back" (yeah take teh piss out of me) I work with single mothers, most often teenagers, and can see the burdens that motherhood can bring. So, sorry to bring real life into this forum but I am qualified in this case to make my arguments. _____________________

I just wonder why some women still need to validate themselves with a child even in SL? Perhaps there are reasons other than a need for validation. There are people who choose to be "fathers" in SL as well, not just mothers. And there is the fact that there are people who choose to be kids. _____________________

Have you ever stopped to think that it might not be "validation?" Might it not just be for the fun/pleasure of it? Not everything maternal has a dark anti-feminist twist, Jig. So you don't have kids. So you might never have kids. Who cares except you? By the same token, you don't have the right to judge women who DO have kids, either in RL or SL. Your holier-than-thou attitude is a slap in the face to women who do choose to procreate. _____________________

And hopefully not the nightmare one like that above... The is honestly the summery, not even a digest. Would take me AT LEAST a day to write out the whole thing. ![]() I, myself, am still getting used to social contact online. So it's been hard for me to dedicate myself to any one thing or person. Add to that, I have a bit of a combative streak... So the idea of obeying parents' orders would be difficult for me, RP or not. Wait.... That would make me FINE for family RP! =^-^= So, while I still run around in my little loli avatar, I have quit asserting an age, and pretty much only accept myself as a child avatar when I actually look like a child. No matter what, I pretty much behave the same though. I mean, even grownups can be brats, right? (^_^)y _____________________

I appreciate all the remarks, especially the suggestions about getting to know the person OOC first, and having a trial adoption.
We all have different reasons for being in SL, and I can understand that someone would want to be a child in SL just as another person would want to be a land baron or a jedi or a steampunk or a pirate or a person of the opposite sex. It might be that some people who had horrible childhoods would like to try again and have something good to remember instead of something bad. Even if it's just escapism, I don't see the harm. Whoever I am in real life, I carry my feelings with me into SL. I am too old to have another child in real life. If you have never had a child, you cannot understand what it is like. You can imagine... you can have a pet and believe that it's the same... but you won't really know. |

I am not griefing here but lets stop teh huffiness and be realistic. I didnt say you shouldnt have kids I just said its not necessary to validate us as women and I should NOT be condemned for saying that. With the greatest of respect to the poster, why not help in a woman's group or a shelter. I sense genuine compassion in this person that could really be channelled into helping real people and real mother AND kids. I mean this absolutely. Not taking teh piss. _____________________

she comes to me for answers) like, "you want gravy on your fries?" Ah, I'm off. Its too exasperating. I get slammed for expressing a common attitude today by many young people. This place seems lost in 1950s. _____________________

I don't have a problem with anything Jig said, just for the record.
I asked to be talked out of something, and she said, "Don't be an idiot," which was right on topic. But, Jig, if you want to be adopted, talk to me inworld. YOU CAN HAVE YOUR OWN ROOM! ![]() |

I didnt say you shouldnt have kids I just said its not necessary to validate us as women and I should NOT be condemned for saying that. Hmm... I just checked, and I do believe you said "Easy peasy. Don't be a f**king idiot." That's pretty harsh. Look, everyone KNOWS that children are not necessary. What you implied is that some women feel like they need to have children in order to feel like women. YOU said it, not me. I'm saying that people like the OP (who has already stated that she has a child) most probably won't feel like she'll be less of a woman if she doesn't adopt an SL kid. Calling someone a fucking idiot isn't the best way to show your views of a thing. Implying that she's somehow emotionally deficient doesn't help. _____________________
