Oh and I might add I stand 5' 7" in my little pointy SL feet and my blouse is not bursting through the over use of SL slider silicon :P

Actually I think I am pretty restrained compared to many AVs I've seen.

I do like my dragon tattoos though :)

Pictures please. This is one is pure genius. My previous post notwithstanding, I would only check this one out because of its awesomeness.

I'm curious how you can have a Cheap Floozy skin (or hair for that matter)??? Surely a skin is a skin, its what you cover it with that defines your look. ...
You're right. That was probably the wrong description for skins.

I was referring more to the overly tan, dripping with lotion, grilled hot dog look with way too much shine that some of the beach bunny bimbo avatars wear.

As for the hair, add to the above skin, a big-hair doo consisting of 200-300 prims (sometimes multi-colored) with flexis flying all over the place, then add way too much eye makeup, a Brazillian bikini hiding almost nothing, spiked high heels, and foot long bling to jewelry that's attached to every body part...

[Editor: Don't forget to add extreme boobage that defies gravity to the above.]

It's not so bad when they hang out at the beach where they belong, but when they come strolling down the isle of a crowded mall the look (and the prim count and particles) stops everybody dead in their tracks.

There's nothing wrong with looking like that. Some people even think it's "Classy". But I think most sensible people would consider it to be overdone.

I know there's got to be some sensible people in SL... somewhere. :D j/k

I see what you mean. I don't like the oiled and tanned look much either (My own skin preference is English Rose pale).

Still I guess its personal preference, some people just like to look like an end stage Goodpastures Syndrome patient.

Maybe because most of them are men in first life? Maybe because if they are really women they have no sense of self esteem? I have often wondered myself.

No offense but why is the cheap skanky look so popular with the girls in second life?

You should see the girls who walk into my kids' school in the mornings.

My Mother would have been scandalized if Id gone out like that.

Of course her mother would have been scandalized if shed dressed like we did in the 80's

Anyone remember cut-up jeans , spandex pants, Sweatshirts exposing a shoulder and a bra strap?

If you figure out why the 15-25 set wants to dress provocativly you'll have your answer

That's certainly true in some cases, but I know many RL women in SL who also dress very racy.

I don't think that comes into the equation. I dont think that RL self-esteem is a factor in how someone dresses in SL -- it's an escape, for many, a chance to be "wild", for example.

The Id is the word Freud used to describe part of the subconcious - the part of you thats obsessed with sex and death.

All those girls in college towns who are showing a lot of their bodies in Real Life must be men, or have low self esteem too.

It could be that thats how they dressed when they went out clubbing when they were 20, or how they wish they could have/had.

There are ways to look both slutty and sexy without having breasts that stick straight out up around your chin.

I do agree that the vast majority of female avs in SL seem to be fairly scantily clad.

Fair enough if that's what makes people happy. I don't get it, but whatever. When I first started using SL I actually had so much trouble finding women's clothes that appealed to me that I a bought a few mens things! They are still among my favourites!

The "sameness" feeling I get about how women dress is what really annoys me. Because the slutty look is so prevalent the women just seem to blur together in my eyes.

Oh that. Yes well I didn't do that with my AV, either, but I can see that it is part of the same general trend of escape.

True :)

I guess I was seperating looking "slutty and sexy look" from body shape.

Theres a lot of people who have horrible senses of human proportions. And others who want to look like exagerated cartoons.

I dont think body shape makes someone look slutty but I can see why people in Second Life would equate the two.

Here is the innovation I suggest: men should wear a skirt and women should wear penis attachments. Let's make this world ORIGINAL!

I admit that I haven't read all the replies, so forgive me I restate what's come before.

Slutty is a (sometimes) derogatory way of saying sexually self empowered. Many people crave to be a free sexual being, full of energy and passion. In RL, there are many reasons why this can be impossible for many, from societal norms, to peer pressure, to just being unsuitable physically. SL, a fantasy world, allows us all to be that slut we can't really be. Why are there so many people doing this? Because it's *almost* a universal constant.

/me shrugs.... That's my opionion, anyway.

Love.

In RL, for many women, the desire to be beautiful defines their entire existence. It is not only what makes women socially popular, it also makes them essentially lovable. This is a sad but true reality for women. Why be beautiful? Ask yourself, why be loved, then you will see.

So when a woman gets to this place where she can look any way possible, it's hard to resist the temptation to look the way she most likely doesn't in RL. I did it briefly too, I'd guess most women do.

But it gets tiresome quickly, and as we explore the world and see new options for clothes/skin/hair, the individuality starts to come out.

Right now I'm experimenting with non human/non animal avatars and that is quite fun -- looks become irrelevant and it is quite liberating. I can be a ball of energy, or a solar system like thing.

And when I am human, I'm trying out different skin/hair color combos to go for a more interesting look. But still, I've yet to let myself be actually "unattractive," that is still the great taboo for women, in RL and in SL too, and I have not gotten over it.

Many people (men and women both) feel threatened by a woman who is open and blatant about her sexuality.

For example, Madonna.

Maybe because the person behind the avatar isn't a girl? Have you not heard the SL saying "the bigger the rack, the more likely a boy is driving?"

Yes, but I see this as a part of our evolutionary biology. Our genes want us to attract mates, plain and simple. Saying we are "wired" that way is a bit too simplistic .. I think it is just a very deep thing, and it isn't a *bad* thing, either, it is a very natural thing. As long as it doesn't become obsessive or completely based on unrealistic standards thrown at us by the media, having a healthy body image, and feeling attractive (for straight women, to men) seems to me to be the most natural thing in the world, to be honest. I don't see it as something that needs to be gotten over, I guess.

Ayep. I try not to jump to conclusions, but the Dolly Parton look usually makes me start to have thoughts like that.
