Why is the slutty look so popular

That was true with me. My first job in SL was as a strip...Uh, exotic dancer. Why? Because it's something I would never do in RL even if I had the body for it. It was a helluva lot of fun but quickly faded. Now my av is much more like me even though he is better looking...the bastard!

Because some people desperately crave attention/approval from anyone, and are not comfortable being themselves, or by themselves. Codependency is a bitch. Added with vanity, and you see why it's so bad. Women are vain creatures, and some more than others (men too, but the question is about women), and having mass appeal to many men appeals to their vanity. Since many men are turned on by the lowest common denominator, that's what you get.

There are many places to find nice clothes. I'm sure I have slutty clothes in my inventory, but it is mostly because I *really* need to organize my stuff again and do some weeding.

Of course, I also have a few things 'just in case'

If you are having a hard time finding modest outfits, try checking out the popular fashion blogs. Even if couture is not your cup of tea, you can usually follow the fashion chain to something that you like.

Maybe one reason that some women dress "evocatively" in SL is because they literally are not allowed to do so in RL. Case in point: My young Muslim friend dresses in cute little *nearly* transparent clothing, sexy outfits, etc. She is very restricted as to what she is allowed to wear in RL; out in public she's required to wear a full abaya and niqab. Maybe she's just cutting loose here! What's wrong with that?

For some, they may truly be trying to look slutty and for others, well their definition of slutty and yours/mine may very well be different. If they don't view themselves as dressy 'slutty', then the question is irrelevant. For the others, the reasons are probably as unique as each AV.

I agree. There seems to be a lot of judgment taking place here. I think people are having some silly fun and letting loose. I doubt seriously most of them would ever consider doing the same in RL.

I agree with the first part- it`s second life. Ive never looked at someone here and thought "that slut."

I think it`s fun to dress up female avi, I have one I use for modeling and I think she is fun.

But id have to say that some people probably *dont* dress like thatin RL because they *cant*.....but that`s why theyre doing it here, to do something you can`t do in rl.

It's a fantasy land. People are not behaving (many of them) as they do in RL. Look at all of the promiscuity as well in SL. Sex is everywhere, BDSM is everywhere, sluttiness is everywhere. It's a place where people can feel free to escape and connect with their inner slut, without the consequences that would have if they did it to the same degree in RL.

Personally though, I think people should feel free to dress however they want in SL...it is a fantasy world and if we have dragons, elves, hedgehogs we can certainly have people who dress a bit risque and enjoy themselves.

It's just not my style....but more power to them, you go girl and all of that.

You have no business judging others and unless something is truly hurting you, you have no business interfering. Trying ignoring it. SL and RL are both HUGE, so if you can't ignore it, leave. Ignoring it will become much easier and you will experience far less stress.

I probably do some stuff that people would find offensive or weird, so I'm not going to act like I'm better than someone who tramps it up a little, has some sex, talks dirty, pole dances or whatever. In fact, if anyone wants to show off their latest slutty clothing...(other than Bradley)

I feel I need to comment here - in SL I tend to be more conservative than in Real Life (where my job kinda demands a more "casual" and sexy look than most people would be able to get away with) so SL offers me a chance to check out me as a cat (for example). And I do wish men would quit judging a woman's personality by clothes she wears. Just coz I WEAR a mini skirt in real, doesn't mean to say that I am promiscuous or "slutty". Check out Vagina Monologues guys. Watching that might help a few of you.

I wander if the girls that dress this way in SL are the same girls that put down, judge and bitch about girls who dress like it in RL.

Really though it just follows from the general degree of inhibition many people feel when they are in their AV form.

Look at all the women who choose to be exotic dancers or escorts in SL. It's completely and utterly disproportionate to the number of women who choose to do these things in RL, for various reasons including: reduced negative consequences, such as the fact that it doesn't really matter or have an impact on their RL job, relationships, safety, etc; perhaps fulfillment of a fantasy or a wonderment as to what it would be like to do this; perhaps fulfillment of a need for attention, and so on and on and on.

Remember, many people are behaving very differently in SL from how they behave in RL, and have really no interest in duplicating their RL selves in SL.

I did make a point that the men are slutty too walking and dancing around with their detachable appendages on display.
I think a mini skirt can look good. Theres a difference between wearing a mini skirt and dresing like a crack whore.

I *do* think that you do have to be aware that your sartorial choices in RL are going to have an impact on men. I mean, come on. We know men look at us. To me it's always been odd when other women have expressed indignation at men ogling them or approaching them when they are dressed in a way that is completely guaranteed to catch mens' eyes ... I don't think that we are going to change that in men, to be honest. That doesn't mean that wearing a mini classes you as a "slut" .. but if you dress like a slut, you have to expect that you're going to attract a certain sort of male attention, in my view, which is why myself I tend to dress pretty conservatively in RL (but not in SL).

As for the VM ... I have a lot of mixed feelings about that. While parts of it were certainly touching and riveting, others struck me as misandry (which is no better in my book than misogyny) and a wholesale trashing of heterosexual sexual relationships. Now as a lesbian-leaning bi-woman, I'm supposed to relate well to that, but instead it struck me as angry and simplistic, to be honest.

LOL so true! I did the stripper thing in RL and have no interest in doing it in SL. It's really boring after a while.

Most of the crack whores I've seen are really scary with bad teeth, scraggly hair, and baggy clothes. Not sure where you hang out!
