Why is the slutty look so popular

No offense but why is the cheap skanky look so popular with the girls in second life and the "hey look at me Im such a stud with my dick out" look so popular with the boys?

Same reason the musclebound male is popular....once that appearance slider starts heading to the right, it's hard to stop it.

I can think of a million silly answers to give, but I'll give a serious answer:

Though I'm a guy I wish I could look in RL half as fabulous as my av looks in his clothes. Even if I could, I couldn't come close to affording one of his outfits.

SL allows me that opportunity.

P.S. My RL ass is just as fabulous as my SL one.

Except for body fat and love handles... those are hard to stop from going all the way left...

It is fantasy, an escape from who or what they are in RL. But I do have to say, there are quite a few modest females in SL. But even they tend to have a "slut" outfit or two in inventory. In SL you don't have to worry if you are fat, ugly, old, or any other thing that is looked down upon in the real world. Here everyone is 25 and beautiful. Yes there are some generalities in this post, but generalities do hold true for the majority.

Society had created the image of the "ideal" man and woman. Then man looks like Brad Pitt after a workout and the woman looks like Angelina Jolie. Given unlimited possibilities, people emulate that ideal.

Well I suppose its all subjective but personally I dont find the slutty look fabulous.

Those two examples are American ideals, not necessarily the worlds. Yes there is a world out here outside of the USA, believe it or not.
Besides I dont think they look like Angelina in SL . They look more like cheap porn star crack whores. LOL

personally, i often have what would be considered a slutty look...one because its fun and attention getting, and also, in my realm life i cant wear such things... the conservative corporate office i work in with the dress code would frown mightily upon a minisjirt and thigh highs

really this question is like asking why do people daydream? why do people fantasize?

granted i also have a lot of rather sedate outfits...i just dont wear them often, when one can be "dressed and ready" in moments, why not wear a fabulous ballgown or a killer mini skirt outfit?...i mean yes, if your SL evening is going to be trudging throgh a sanfdbox, or exploring some wild area, the ballgown may be a bit out of place..

but short shorts and a skimpy Tee shirt is appropriate, ask Lara Croft! hehehe

Shep, I don't have an answer to your question, but I've often wondered the same. Other than jeans (and even those can be a little too low) I have an awful time finding outfits to wear in SL. I don't mind showing some cleavage and leg, but all the shops are to the extreme. Someone should open one with regular clothers for regular people that don't want that slutty look--unless someone alway has and I haven't come across it!

I am not sure....but I can say that my best selling clothing items are women's business suits and gowns. I have a couple of sexier/club like items and they sell ok, but it's the classier creations that pay the bills.

Perhaps it's living out the desire to have the perfect body and being proud of it?

I'm sure there is a shrink/sociologist who has done a paper on this issue.....

I agree. I don't dress slutty except while attending a rare event that calls for it, but then it's all dress up. Some though, figure if they've got the body, flaunt it. Taste, as you said, is very subjective.

Another easy answer to your question...Why is it so popular in SL? Because it's so popular in RL. I don't know where you live but here in LA the slutty look is very popular among the pre-teen girls on up. Not here to debate it. Just the fact.
