So, let's all petition LL to close the Bear Infohub - Travis has already extended a warm invitation for the Bear gang to hang out at the Isabel Infohub.

Ravenelle, you built it, ask to have it taken down and moved somewhere else. The only way to keep peace is that the Infohub go away. People will find other places to hang out, and maybe some other sim would love to have all that traffic.

It is the only way forward.

But the OP doesn't want it removed. She is pushing for a 30 day born on date limit. She wants the infohub, but only if it is low impact and for newbies only.
Does she have enough tier to make that call? I dunno. I am with you though Isablan. If it such a major problem for two residents that own there that have spoken up in this thread then that is the only logical move. Making new policies to have things just the way you want (30 day born on dates) is likely not a option LL will go with.

Yeah, but that isn't going to happen. So, the fair thing for the landowers of Bear who are being compromised is to remove it. Everybody is clearly unhappy with the current situation, so to resolve it the Infohub should move and the landowers of Bear can enjoy the peace and tranquility of their empty sim while the Infohub traffic goes somewhere it is welcomed.

There will be no peace in Bear until the Infohub goes.

Yep! I totally agree as this has been ongoing. So, I am willing to sign in the petition if it begins for the sake and sanity of Bear.
Something has to give..

BTW Islaban, what Linden do you think would be over this? Maybe we can go to the office hours or send an email to let them know. They may be able to pull it before a full on petition has to be done.

Well, Lias said very clearly that if the Infohub can't be restricted it should be closed. So she is ok with the option.

From: Lias Leandros
Because the service provider craeted this problem after collecting tier from me for two years. And the service provider can fix the problem just as easily - and is obligated to do so. Make the infohub accessible to Mentors and avatars under 30 days old and the problem is solved. Or remove it altogether since the Lindens do not have the manpower to make the space an effective tool for new players without inconvieniencing tier paying members. No one in Linden Lab ever announced that mainland sims with infohubs in them will now be used as public chat zones. Once they make this announcement then we can have a discussion about server reources, breach of contract and compensation. Until then I will use the resources I pay for as I like. Even if it inconvieniences the loiterers in the infohub.

Ah ok then. I missed that in the OP. Then this should be perfect for all involved. The info hub people can hang out somewhere else and Bear will be free to keep customers coming in. Unless a bot farm moves in..

Voted. Maybe you can point SLU people to it as well. That may get lots more signatures. I will put that jira in my signature too. :)

Popped into Bear - 18 people during a peak SL hour.

Kris is right, Lias. There's no point in irritating a huge chunk of potential customers when you could embrace them, but I'm not sure you actually want customers as much as you want to be right. *shrug*
Amusing. I do not seek my customer base from infohubs. If I did I would not have sold the land directly across from the infohub to my friend two years ago. The point of the thread is the sim can either fill-up because of loitering in a infohub or from the actions of tier paying residents. I find it amazing that Linden Lab values the loiterer over the contractual agreement with fee-paying customers. And I have no intention of being bullied by these residents or the service provider. The infohub is for new players. SO make it accessible for residents under 30 days old only and the problem is gone.

Islaban, there is a thread going on over there about this I just saw. Perfect place to point to the jira. :)

Close the Infohub in Bear
05-10-2008 19:00
In the past, I had offered the Bear Infohub loiterers a free place to hang out with scripting enabled and all of that good stuff on a private island. They would be free to roam as they pleased and chat until their mouths fall off. I even built it to look just like the Bear infohub, same textures and all. They wanted no part of it. They need to be in Bear. The negative attention is what these people crave. They enjoy cursing out complete strangers, calling names and trying to slander business owners in the sim. This gives them something to do after school gets out. They do not help new comers.

I would agree to a 30 day born on limit. I would even be willing to include myself in the equation. I would be glad to never step foot in the infohub again if they would enact the 30 day Born on Date.

Let the Infohub be for newbies and information seekers.

Ryan, the 30 day limit sounds good for your purpose but the likelyness of LL enacting that on your (residents of Bear) behalf are extremely unlikely. Since it has escalated to a perpetual problem Isablan's solution will be a likely to be accomplished scenario.

Hopefully the movement to remove the info hub will give you all some relief. :)

Rebuy the land... make it look like part of the infohub... boot them when they step on the land.

No wait, did I say that?

Nevermind, I wouldn't suggest something like that.

It's not the newbies that are the problem, but the older avatars from what I gathered

Yes, but I was under the impression that she was just upset that the sim was full and her customers couldn't get in. If so, it doesn't matter which of the people she booted to make room.

Funny none of my 5 accounts have ever been told by LL to gather at infohubs?
And I've never had a problem logining in there with my alt once a week as he was "born" in Bear, and I rarely ever see more than 20, but I do see Lias down there a lot. And her alts too. And her 2 camppads in her club there.
Face it only someone who thrives on drama would put up with it so long whne land is so cheap elsewhere across the grid, plenty of people WANT high trafficfrom infohubs, so sell out. You're not getting me banned from my birthplace thank you very much.

I think we should help Lias by all setting home there for a few weeks or keep Tping there and posting the results so we can all get a proper picture of this issue.
I'm there now ate 2am SLT and there are 3 other AV's in the whole sim, one guy at the info hub seems to be AFK and another 2 is shopping in Ryans store above Lias shooting gallery, which of course is directly opposite to the infohub, with huge signs advertising their services and freebies facing the place they don't want clientelle from.

Smells fishy to me :P

Huh. Stopped by the infamous Bear Infohub today. A whopping four people in the hub.

Beautiful place, too. A lot nicer looking than some of the other nearby storefronts (The guns and free camping place), IMO.

Am I missing something?

Again, LL announced in the blog that everyone could test the new voice client at infohubs. Some interpeted this as an invitation to use infohubs as chat areas. I already posted this information three times in this thread.

From: someone

You will see more than two dance pads in the immediate future, buddy. Since I pay tier to use that server I can use alot more of teh resources than I have in the last three years. Bear had been a quiet, sleepy sim until the infohub attracted the loiterers and greifers.

From: someone
Face it only someone who thrives on drama would put up with it so long whne land is so cheap elsewhere across the grid,

And again, I am not moving from the land I bought in 2005 because a bunch of loiterers insist that I do. I have paid the fees to use the resources on the Bear server for three years and I have every intention to continue to do so. The drama comes from people who are aware that a sim can only hold 43 avatars but they insist upon gathering there for absolutely no reason with no regard.

From: someone
plenty of people WANT high trafficfrom infohubs

The traffic in the infohub is usually 15,000 a day. absolutely no parcel in the entire sim is over 2000 daily. So a full infohub obviously does not translate into traffic for the sim. Once older avatars turned the inofhub into a mass chat zone the natural flow of traffic into the sim was disrupted and the traffic for the two stores in sight of the infohub went down drmatically. The once high-trafficked bikini shop across from the infohub now has to contend with traffic The Infohub in the past had an average of 200 unique visitors a day. Several months ago when I told LL that the loitering and the new player numbers was at the infohub was creating a bottlekneck effect in the sim - A Linde told me they lowered the amount of new players that are funneled there from Help Islands. And that is a shame. The infohubs were placed on the mainland to be a conduit for new players to enter Second Life. Not as a chat area for older avatars.

From: someone
You're not getting me banned from my birthplace thank you very much.
Then rez there and move on. Do not stand there for hours and get your LOLs with a bunch of other older avatars. Be aware of the resources you are abusing.

From: someone
2 is shopping in Ryans store above Lias shooting gallery, which of course is directly opposite to the infohub, with huge signs advertising their services and freebies facing the place they don't want clientelle from. Smells fishy to me :P
FYI: Older avatars loitering for hours in the infohub meant for new players is not clientelle.

I re-designed the parcel across from the infohub two weeks ago to reflect my complete disgust with the infohub abuse situation. The dancepads and signage are a result of my complete disgust with this situation. I am now at the point that if I cannot comfortably use the resources I pay for then I will not make the loiterers comfortable. The new players are welcome to the freebies. And hopefully soon they will have their infohub back.

#6. Disturbing the Peace
Every Resident has a right to live their Second Life. Disrupting scheduled events, repeated transmission of undesired advertising content, the use of repetitive sounds, following or self-spawning items, or other objects that intentionally slow server performance or *inhibit another Resident's ability to enjoy Second Life* are examples of Disturbing the Peace.
