Some definite bad traits:
Unless they feel like it, they dont even want to be in the same room as you. They only want sex for a couple days a month, and their tongues are like sandpaper.

Still if other people find the purring and stuff sexy then thats up to them

Exactly. It only matters what someone's RL gender is if it matters to you -- it's a very subjective thing. I know that it's likely that some of the women I interact with in SL are avatars controlled by male typists -- but it doesn't matter much to me, because I do not bleed things over into RL, so frankly to me the whole "disclosure issue" is irrelevant.

No, not overreacting at all. What I don't like is that everyone stylizes it to the point where they're not even proper 'cat girls', they're just people in ears and tails.

Erm, I'm pretty sure I'm not the one who had an attack of the screaming mimis a couple pages back. I also don't understand the impulse to be so judgmental because, what? There are only a few decent neko part vendors in SL? I enjoy being semi-feline...if you don't like my appearance, don't look. *shrug*

Seriously, the fat bald guy. I see them everywhere. Yeah, Kudos for originality if you were the only one, but there's a fuckin army of these guys around now. SL is supposed to be about fantasy, WHO THE HELL FANTASIZES ABOUT BEING A BALD FAT GUY? Because whoever these people are they must be awfully happy with RL being innundated with with such slovenly unnatractive people.

Mostly I think men have a huge problem showing imagination with their AV's, and I give kudos to men who stir up the pot. It's pretty damn easy to be a tall muscular hunk, but it takes work to build something with imagination. Maybe one bald fat guy in a sea of hunks is the one guy showing imagination, but a vast dsea of bald fat guys just tells me "I'm not even TRYING to be attractive or desirable in SL, that's the WOMEN'S job" Like men are not supposed to see themselves as sexy or sexually desirable. That's a little too poofy for some minds to handle.

I just wanted to bump this thread and say thank you to all the posters.

I started SL last week, and wanted to get my av looking nice quickly. I hate being the obvious noob wherever I am...

Noone mentioned shapes. I picked up a very nice shape from thelook with accompanying skin and hair from Naughty Designs. Yes, it cost a few L$, but it got me jumpstarted. I have only spent $20US and have a really pretty av.

Once I've gotten a good feel for the interface, I'll start exploring the building tools. Until then, I'll be checking out some of the other suggestions in this thread. I'm so glad I found these recommendations!

I am currently a Prison Fairy who wears a orange jumpsuit with really bad seams that could be crime scene in themselves. Prior to this I lived in checkered silk bathrobe and pj bottoms that I made for few months.
I make things myself, sometimes I fail at it, other times its okay. I hate dealing with other people's permissions that restrict my creativity so I don't bother with other people's stuff unless there is special reason for purchasing or wearing it.
My other male friends one usually wears some type of military uniform or Armor. The others are pretty average looking some may do interesting things with hair.
Female friends one usually wears very skimpy tight fitting clothing, the other last time I saw her was wearing something that resemble Alice in Wonderland and the other tends to wear dresses that look like they come from 1700s.
I don't leave Nakji or Huin much.

I have a furry av, and rarely wear clothes. Furries can get away with it though so long as no naughty bits are showing, since its all fur/feathers/scales underneath anyway.

Used to wear a pair of bottomless chaps with a dark T-Shirt because they look good with a tail, but I've switched to a full-prim avatar and have thus far been too lazy to produce a full-prim version of those.

I am 43 in RL and I wear all sorts of different looks in SL LOL so I doubt age has anything to do with it. It is all just personal preference, whatever you feel comfortable looking at (can't say whatever you feel comfortable wearing, cuz face it you are not wearing it LOL)
