I see very few actual oldbies answering this thread
just kinda curious when a newbie becomes an oldbie .. or is there a midbie?. Rhetorical question really, I don't want to derail.

Bilbo bought a Naughty skin about a month from starting. A Gurl6 hair I think just before it actually. Tried the hair colours but always return to brown texture. In the intervening months I've tried another one or two do's but just plain used to my Branden. I tweaked my eyes a little more into a smile a couple of weeks back. Sometimes wear one earring for a giggle (right ear).

/me thinks ... memory failure .. probably said all this pages ago :(

Actually I've wondered about that myself. Maybe you stop being a newbie when you ditch the bling ;)

Perhaps someone will come along and share some wisdom on the subject :D

You stop being a newbie when you decide not to accept a stupid title thrown at you by someone else.

Personally, I'm kinda digging the "Dirty, Hobo-ish, Punky-but-without-the-cheeziness-of-Hot-Topic, kinda Goth, but not all "OMG, my parents hate me', kinda Tank-Girl like", tattooed, but cool, chunky boots and sexy jeans" style that's becoming more prevalent. Or at least in the places I've been shopping.

Maybe it's a neko thing, 'cuz they usually have some Neko stuff nearby. I dunno.

Nearly every male avatar I see falls into the "muscular, tall, tanned, long/straight haired, tattooed, semi-bearded, black-leather-clad" category.

They do diversify between gothic, fantasy/Gor, sci-fi and contemporary, but essentially they all look alike.

With a few notable exceptions. One exception is the newbie who thinks it's hilarious to expand their base hair until it grows over their face O.O

I can only recall one male avvie whose appearance really surprised me. He was pale and thin, dressed in exquisite period costume.

maybe tomorrow I will make a male alt

will not cost me anything and I aim to not purchase anything in world, want to try to do it all on freebies, to see if it can be done

yes it is a girls world

a lot of guys ask me to make mens clothes, problem is, I dunno what men want

so maybe by being a virtual male I might get some kind of insight.

I don't know what men want, but I know the kind of men I like...

- the Pilot. Trim, a bit on the short side, not overmuscled. Bomber jacket and aviator specs, short neat hair.
- the Professor. Slim, tall, distinguished but not overdressed. Slightly longer hair, a little mussed. Glasses.
- the Thinking Man's Warrior. Bruce Willis. Sigh.

You can keep the Barbarians, the Gangsters, the Pimps, and the Football Heroes, thanks so much.

Of course, everything's out the window once he opens his mouth. If he's got a quick mind and a gentle heart, he doesn't need anything else.

It's very simple. You stop being a newb when you throw away your bling and AO. :)

I don't use bling in the first place, though my collar has a subtle bling to it.

But let me get this straight... You want me to throw away the AO that I have spent so much time customizing? Are you joking?

Yeah, I threw away the bling about 3 months in, but I can't imagine ever getting to the point where I don't mind walking like a crippled duck or sticking my hands through my hips while standing about.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I like the official LL walk and stand...sorry but I do. I will never ever stand around striking silly poses!

LOL my AO is actually SLolder than most the active posters on this forum.

I bought it well over 2 years ago.

in 2+ years in SL, I have maybe a dozen outfits I enjoy wearing... 3 hair styles, and 2 pairs of shoes.. there just really is not much selection for the casual guy and you can only own so many jeans and t-shirts.

I find I have more avatars then I do outfits, being that when i failed to find things that felt "right" on me, I just started enjoying being completly diffrent, be it a dragon, a cat, a tiny baby...

Um... but doesn't the lack of an AO broadcast NOOB!?

????

It broadcasts our sense of style and taste. :)

Have you ever seen a noob trying to walk or sit with her AO activated?

More technology doesn't always make you a more advanced SL user.

Theres a big exception ..

if someone has been in SL so long there is NO ONE with their last name that has a AOL style first name (example Jill23) ..

then they are never a noob, no matter what they look like.

Oh I agree. Well, about the stands at least, though I do use an AO for walk and sits.

I just find many of the standing poses I see very silly. The default ones might not be perfect, but at least they look pretty natural. And I do love the way your chest rises and falls in a gentle breathing motion. It's very subtle... but perhaps subtlety isn't a big thing for many people. :-D

I am sooooooo not going back to standard waddling! I don't use poses cause they're just not my thing, but the standard walk is just...... well..... painful!

Guess I'll never grow old :D

/me makes note "find or create avatar that is a floating brain with the lighting bolt/or wings of Mercury attached on back, with soft gentle heart beating softly . . and nothing else"

Eep. Perhaps I should amend that slightly...

Soji, the PERSON has to have those qualities, not his avatar. Ewww.
