It's really hard to make a male alt look decent and not like a blingtard. My alt tends to go for the mafia/rat pack/1920's gangster look. Double breasted suits, hats, nice shoes... send him out into the world with a good AO and he's pretty fly. I tend to go a bit further back myself. Usually at a minimum a casual suit (late victorian / edwardian) or even a full blown victorian dress suit, frock coat and top hat. The watch chain, ring, cane and AO are additional options. Indeed it is really a pain to find men's clothing ingame. 99.99999% of the time, stores that say they carry mens clothing have ONE pair of spiked boots and the rest is, ahem, slutwear for women. One good menswear (contemporary) I found is Simwear. For more period menswear, Silver Rose in Caledon VictoriaCity has quite a few different suits. |

Seriously, tho, on-topic; I've noticed that a lot of "oldies" are more diverse with their avatars. I see more non-human oldies than human ones. I wonder if SL was more accepting of diversity back then or if we (relative newbies) are just not very creative? Many, not all, of the oldies were role-players, folks out to be something different and used to being something other than themselves ingame. Newbies are far more likely to be a 'joe sixpack' mainstream user than they used to be. And with that, comes 'follow the RL fashion trend' and 'dress like your friends' and the ever-popular 'what cool TV show actor/actress can I dress like?' looks. |
