At the place I went to they had contracts which said how long and for how many hours a week they would be slaves. One girl was hiring herself out as a surogate mother for nine months. How does that work in sl.

Some sims in Gor do fun auctions to raise money for the sim where people can put themselves up for usually a day or up to three days. Its all done in fun and usually those that are free people are the ones auctioned off with different limits and offerings.

I was once put at the stake of love wars and ended up having to build something for the person who won me.

Gor can be seen as a subset of BDSM. It is a very strict subset with rules for how all slaves are to act. Men are inheirently Masters and women are subserviant. .

I certainly view Gor this way.

Now having said that, there's a philosophy behind Gor, for some people. Such people may not see Gor as a subset of BDSM, but for the rest... yes. If you view SL Gor from the perspective of what people do (as opposed to why they do it), it's a very specific form of BDSM.

Now having said *that*, SL Gor seems to be equally about RP'ing capture rollplay, fighting little skirmishes, and generally getting one's drama on. From what little of it I've actually seen. So you've got the virtual LARPers, and the virtual slave girls. *Shrugs*

Never been to Gor, never done Gor, no one I know in my odd circle of friends, advocates it.
I hear they have some really nice builds though.

There are Slave actions where the Slave gets the money?

That seems weird. Usually its the previous owner who gets the money when the slave gets auctioned.

A Slave auction where the Slave gets the money is called an "BDSM" Escort Agency I think.

This is more the sort of auction that appeals to me. I wouldn't mind doing a spot of building or scripting for a worthy cause. I'm becoming more and more convinced that you have an RP that's a lot of fun, Denise. :-)

My dolly came to visit me while I was gesture spamming in Hanja and we happened upon a cute little girl that was totally new and curious. We decided to help out and mentored her for about 2 hours or so... We all had fun, and she worked out a lot of what SL had to offer quite quickly...

... This morning... I met my new dolly...

/me faceplams and laughs. (^_^)y

...although the freewomen sort of RP that Denise is describing doesn't seem to fit in with the BDSM world at all...

I missed that post. Anyhow, freewomen fit more with the philosophy of Gor. Accordingly, they are seemingly free, but since they cannot act on their utter and primal need to submit to men, they are the real prisoners in the society. Freedom in slavery and all that. You could, of course, argue the same feelings for some BDSM submissives.

Perhaps you don't understand Colette. At this place lots of slaves don't have owners before they are auctioned and after their contract they don't have an owner again and not all the slaves said they wanted sex or BDSM although maybe surogate motherhood requires both. Heh heh heh

I do like leather, but this will not fit me. I will keep it safe with me and when you wish to have this collar back, you only need to ask.

I think that Yosef overgeneralized and blurred distinctions, though his observations are understandable.

Gor is a fictitious place from a set of science fiction novels by John Norman. Visit your favorite onine bookseller for more info, but note that these books are mostly out of print (IIRC). It has a strong BDSM element, because owning slaves and using them for sexual purposes is not only a significant theme element, the author argues that the master/slave relationship is the natural and desirable one between most men and women. (I strongly disagree.)

BDSM is simply a set of sexual practices involving, obviously, bondage, domination, and sado-masachism. You can have BDSM without Gor. It's hard to imagine Gor without some amount of BDSM, though that element figures even larger in role playing than it does in the books -- perhaps simply because it plays to the desires of the participants, and requires quite a bit less imagination and creativity than working up sci-fi plot elements.

There are a number of role playing groups that take Gor very seriously, making it a 24/7 thing. There are others where people take it less seriously, opting in when they feel like it, and playing the role to the extent they want.

I'm not a Gorean or BDSM fan. This is the opinion of an outsider who has no moral or ethical objections to this kind of role playing. I believe that it can be either positive or negative, depending more on the emotional health of the players than on the game itself.

No Rose. Being married in rl if you are a man is like being all the types of Gor slaves that have been mentioned rolled into one. I thought the marriage service said the bride was supposed to obey. I must have been more deaf than I thought at the time. I have to go now because the wife wants me to check all the toilet seats in the house are down.

AS a mom of five sons, I don't quite understand why anyone would want to RP pregnancy, but whatever floats your boat...
I see your point, but surely you can understand that someone who doesn't have the option but feels the need might find some comfort or enjoyment role-playing it. This instinct runs deep, yet many can't fulfill it in RL, for any number of reasons, including being male, being infertile, or being in a social situation where it's not feasible.

Personally, I've always been delighted that I was born male and unable to get pregnant, and that I adopted my RL son and didn't have to deal with all the hassles attendant on his mother's pregnancy. So, for me, it would take a lot of imagination to empathize with anyone who'd want to RP preganancy, but it's easy to sympathize.

I'm not a fan of chatting fetuses, though. ;)

Good one Colette!

Judging people and what they do seems to be a sport in SL. I remember that thread with the guy who thought he was an RL vampire arguing that Goreans in sl were strange. :)

Just find something you like and do that.. if that is being a slave in Gor, great! - If its being a minotaur with boobs.. Knock yourself out!

Just don’t be a judgmental jackass and ruin other people's fun… :)

I ran into a minotaur with boobs a couple of months ago... I wonder. Was your example reaching for the absurd, or were you referring to something you've seen before?
