Perhaps it takes a dry British humour to get that one. I was agreeing with you as well and stating what a fine upstanding individual you are.

Of course Im not British nor do I play one on SL... I just like to masquerade.

Updated list of residents who are opting out of premium account stipends (L$500/wk):

1. Me (Bloop Cork)
2. Nicole David
3. kerunix Flan
4. Kazanture Aleixandre
5. Mad Wombat
6. Fade Languish (welcome on board!)

Updated list of residents who are opting out of basic account stipends (L$50/wk):

1. Rasah Tigereye (two basic accounts)
2. Merhain Speculaas

We're at L$3150 per week. How many more residents do we need? Uh, too MANY!

Keep going! Remember, this is a volunteer program only. If you want to keep your stipends that is perfectly fine. You do not have to state that here. If you want to offer your support but want to keep your stipends, please state it in this thread.

I notice that neither Jamie Bergman or Reservebank Division have signed up yet for your list, which is rather amusing considering that they are both very vocally anti-stipend.

It is like I say, they just want to make as much money as possible even if it kills Second Life and Linden Labs. It is all about greed. It is expected that I will not give up mine willingly but they should "step up to the plate" and give up theirs.

No. No no no. NO. How many times do I have to say this, NO. This is all about being able to AT LEAST get back the REAL US$ that you have put into this. This is about content providers who have spent time and money making and scripting stuff being able to make that money back. It's about land owners who have set up places for people to meet, hang out, and enjoy, being able to pay their monthly tier costs. It's about making it worth for the people who have contributed greatly to this game - its looks, its workings, and its community - to actually STAY here and CONTINUE contributing to the game. It's about keeping this game moving forward, instead of reducing it to a glorified IRC room full of people with low quality free content. That's what it's about. And don't give me the "Just charge US$ like Anche does." That will kill sales faster than any cuts in stippends. Besides, most people can't afford to make their transactions in $US yet. A $0.50 cent sale probably won't cover the fees for transfering it into your bank. Plus most people don't, or can't, deal with that. There are A LOT of people here who don't even use US$ as their country's currency. $L is fast, convenient, and cheap. It's also duying, and killing land and content providers with it.

You don't kill one side of the community to support the other.

I'll throw mine in the ring. Originally I didn't because I don't think eliminating stipends is the best way to fix the economy. But if that's all LL will do, something large and drastic must be done.

To address a couple questions.

Why not just use the script or pay Governor Linden directly?

The amount of money a few forum volunteers are gonna eliminate is probably not meaningful to the economy. Even if we get enough volunteers Shaun jumps on board this forum probably can't dig up enough people to make a difference in the economic numbers not a large enough percentage of the players will read this and too many will think like Shaun. The only reason to volunteer in this thread is to send LL a message that something needs done with large immediate impact and we are willing to back our opinion with our own money. Volunteering to give up our stipend might get through to LL they need to do more than they've done.

Why not put it in classifieds or other money sink?

See above why it wouldn't help the economy and conversely it would raise the numbers for the sinks making them look more effective and change less needed. If we throw our stipends in the sinks it just puts them to use as designed. If we have a chance to get LL's attention it's gonna be in requesting their elimination not in using them.

As far as the trolls... the ones that yell loudly about the stipends but aren't on the list just respond to all their threads asking them to put their money where their mouth is or quit trolling. The trolls favoring stipends aren't so easy to deal with, but with them trying to derail this thread they make themselves obvious to readers here.

Exactly. And right now you're killing one side of the community. We need a balance.

Prices can raise. People can stop undercutting. One side of the economy needs to quit killing itself. And its not the stipend side.

Yes add me to the list.

I think that one of two things need to happen. Either the stipend is done away with, or if people insist on keeping the stipend the sinks need to increase approximately 3 times what they are now. Currently about 60 mil of new money is made a month with about 20 mil of money being "burned." Honestly I'm unsure which way would be better, but I can guarantee that if content creators have to spend more to create content then prices of their goods will go up accordingly. Then we would have all the people who are adamantly for keeping the stipend will go off on a tangent about how they need a bigger stipend.

According to the stats they posted, if the premium accts stipends were reduced to 50$L that would more or less balance the incomming vs. outgoing $L per month.

But at the rate of 50$L a month, at that point, I would be all for removing mine.

So count me in.
