Volunteer to End Your Premium Acct. Stipends

Although i prefer a solution where LL creates a super cool function/feature which you only get if you voluntarily drop your stipend.

Sign me up as a premium user.

Premium account stippend will never die and at an estimate 70% of us ( the silent majority) want to keep our weekly 500L stipend.

weekly payment to the residents was over 3000L$ at the ancient times of SL, with a base 1000L$. with less than 20K residents.

Now it is 500L$, and sl has over 200K residents. And noone is complaining about why it reduced to 500L$.

When it becomes 250L$, people will still be happy.

I have no problem with stipends actually.
My problem is money supply>>>>> money sinks.
If you want to save your stipends; there is only one solution. Come with money sink ideas.

I paid for my stipend, no way gaijin! If you want to do the finger cut go for it!

Let's keep this civil. If you have read my initial thread and subsequent posts here, you can clearly see that I have no problem with those who want to keep their stipends. This thread is for those who want to stand up to their conviction about the negative impact of stipends on the SL economy.

Even if a resident believes that stipends have a bad affect BUT they cannot afford to give them up, that is fine. It is a personal decision. Please respect our decisions like I respect your position.

And for the record, I'm a content creator also. I'm using my stipends to upload textures and new clothing designs that I've made so that I can open a store. But I do not want hand outs--even if the contract guarantees them. If my store makes money, then I'll use the proceeds to upload more textures. If not, I will eventually close shop.

This is the way it is in real life too. Besides, L$500 is less than US$ 2. If I need more Lindens, I can always give up something in RL that costs me $2 each week. I don't drink coffee, but how many people spend more than that on one silly Starbucks. In RL, if you want to run a business or have fun, it costs money--money that you made. It cost you RL money to sign up as a premium account member in the first place.


Vivianne, I repeat. Don't turn this into a personal attack. You do not know me so you cannot accurately state that "I" don't care. I do not have "oogobs" of Lindens to sell. I do not currently make any money in SL. I just spend it.

I care about the overall health of SL and I am acting to do what I feel will help. The issue with stipends is not the only problem with the SL economy (as Jonas points out), but it is a big one.

If you want to keep your stipends, that's fine. You should. This is a volunteer program only.


You're probably correct in your estimate, CJ. It could even be higher. That is why this is a volunteer program.

Keep going! Remember, this is a volunteer program only. If you want to keep your stipends that is perfectly fine. You do not have to state that here.

I think LL should increase our stippends with the market rate..
And if that market rate goes down our stipends could go down too..

In a different thread I have posted the similar idea. As it currently stands, stipends are the biggest source of new money creation. This unbalances the economy over time. Therefore, stipends could be indexed to the currency market in an inverse relationship.

There is already a script that does this on the Library page.

Instead of adding your names to a list, which LL might or might not pay attention to, why not grab that script and attach it and start giving up your stipend right now?

Adjusting stipends to market rate is in direct conflict with the goal of voluntarily giving up stipends.

If premium stipends are ended without replacing it with something else, only landowners will have premium accounts. THere is simply no other reason to have premium.

There are also a lot of players who are unable to make 500 lindens per week working in SL either. There need to be more jobs, especially for newer players. In addition, these jobs need to be fun somehow to those who are working them.

There needs to be something that new/poor players can do to contribute to the game, via doing more work that benefits established players, so that players with money will actually benefit by hiring others. Solve that and you've solved most of the economic problems.

Really? Are you talking about the LSL scripting Library? I went there and could not find any library script having to do with stipends.

What are you referring to and how does it work? Was it created by LL or someone else? Do you remember the name of the script?

If it was created by LL, then I'll use it. If it was created by a third-party coder, then I'll pass since I imagine LL would not allow scripters to use LSL to control how stipends are handled. But, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Still, the purpose of this thread, whether LL reads it or not, is to let people voluntarily opt out of their weekly stipends and show that they stand by their convictions. If someone wants to but cannot afford to, therefore cannot fairly demonstrate their convictions, they can post here and say just that.

My last post on this thread. I think not writing something is giving the quiet approval. Thus one last time, I reject voluntarily giving up my only source of Lindens! I reject it today, tommorow and forever!

Amusing.. all the people crying out for stipends to be cut yet so few volunteer to give it up. Thats a shocker.

OP, I think this is wonderful and respect what youre doing.

Why stop at $500? You can drain all the money you want from the economy by simply paying governor linden.

So do I. Bloop you rock. I haven't even called for an end to stipends, but I appreciate what you are doing, so I want to support it, and I'm not actually concerned whether I get a stipend or not. As such, I give up mine. If there is a worthy cause that provides something benefical to the community, and is non-profit, that needs L$500 a week for something like classifieds, that is, it will all go into a sink, feel free to post here, and I'll get in touch, or IM or PM me.
