I like that idea. Maybe Bloop could set something up like this? This is a wonderful idea, yet we need to have a trustworthy person who won't run away with the money. I like Rathe's idea, too. Mad Wombat, are you implying something? ![]() |

Don't take me wrong, but giving the money to Gov. Linden is one thing. Giving your money to another resident is another thing. If i would get the (theoretical) 62 million L$, I might get weak and sell that on the market and buy a little house in RL.
Btw. Who is Gov. Linden and how does he looks like? ![]() |

hey, btw, in regards to what I think is a valid concern regarding newbies not getting their $50 that would entice them to go out and buy more $L on Lindex, since $50 is enough to when their appetite but not to buy anything:
What if instead of just burning the L, we were to set up a scripted object that would keep track of people and allow stippendless newbies to pull out their $50l a week? (possibly even with the unused $L being dumped to Governor Linden right before every reset of the list of who got their money). Newbs not getting $L is already a decline in cash inflow, and this would 1) allow newbs to keep their stippends, 2) put to rest complaints about "%80 of my market is gone" and 3) could allow us to set up some way of teaching newbies about Lindex and how to use it as they pull out their $L (like, set up an advert, or have it automatically give out notecards or whatever). True it won't drop the amount of cash inflow (although I don't know whether the cut in newbs is enough of a cut or not), but it might help to spur the economy and trading a bit. |

I saw your idea in another thread and was interested. You're correct. It will not remove money form circulation but is would help newbies and show our good intentions as well. Perhaps we need to have a pool that is disbursed in several different ways: a.) The Big Box of Money for newbies b.) Classified ads to promote this issue as Rathe is suggesting c.) Paying the Gov. Rock to keep our movement in the minds of LL. Letter "b", whereas it does remove money from the system, it does little to communicate our feelings to LL. They will just think they have made some great money via the classifieds. So, we could split our stipends in several ways to maximize the affect. Any thoughts? |

They will just think they have made some great money via the classifieds. So, we could split our stipends in several ways to maximize the affect. Any thoughts? BINGO. Actually, Classified ads DO remove money from the system... they're a legitimate SINK. So yeah, posting classified ads regarding these matters is a pretty valid alternative to handing the money to Gov Linden. This hadn't even occurred to me. Nice job. ![]() Of course, it has to be realized that with several people sinking 500L a month in classified ads, it might bring a negative reaction from the populace. So it would need to be done with style, grace, "to the point" ads and a few regular emails to LL to let them know what's being done. The better publicised such an effort, the more good it will do. But in addition folks, here's the thing: LL knows something is wrong. What they apparently don't know is how to fix it. So what is really needed is a general concensus of the necessary steps to take, sort of a "List of Demands" to present to Linden Lab, not as demands per se, but strong supportive and constructive suggestions. I mean, protests are great, but if LL finally says, "OK, what do you want us to do"... we need to have a written agenda. ![]() _____________________

I'd go with the classified system. Otherwise, Gov. Linden's probably out buying a new executive desk clicker with the L$ she just sold on LindeX for L$340/$1US ^^

Wayfinder:
Thank you for all your input. I have not ignored it. I've had RW work today that has not allowed me the normal flexibility to periodically monitor these forums. Also, I wanted to carefully read your various posts and think about what you have to say before I blabbed. Your input is much appreciated. BINGO. Actually, Classified ads DO remove money from the system... they're a legitimate SINK. So yeah, posting classified ads regarding these matters is a pretty valid alternative to handing the money to Gov Linden. This hadn't even occurred to me. Nice job. ![]() Actually, this idea is Rathe Underthorns. He posted it several pages back-- /130/a0/109283/11.html#post1064603 Of course, it has to be realized that with several people sinking 500L a month in classified ads, it might bring a negative reaction from the populace. So it would need to be done with style, grace, "to the point" ads and a few regular emails to LL to let them know what's being done. The better publicised such an effort, the more good it will do. I agree. Your idea of regular emails addresses my initial concern about the effectiveness of classified ads. I also agree that much style and grace will need to be exhibited. This is not something we want to wave in people's faces saying we're better than them. We want to educate and teach--and listen to alternative opinions in a civil manner. But in addition folks, here's the thing: LL knows something is wrong. What they apparently don't know is how to fix it. Alright, just a reminder that our next stipend "burning party" is in just a half hour--9 pm EST, 6 PM SL time (Pacific TIme).

After our civil discussions in this thread, I believe we have come up with a way to protest stipends in more effective manner.
We have three options on the table: a.) The Big Box of Money for newbies b.) Classified ads to promote this issue as Rathe is suggesting c.) Paying the Gov. Rock to keep our movement in the minds of LL I suggest we concentrate the value of our volunteered stipends into "b" above. We should still meet at the Governor's mansion weekly(?) to keep our movement going. While there, I also suggest that we each pay the Rock of Linden ONLY 1L$. This will show up as a funny amount to LL and remind them of our efforts. The monies used to purchase classifieds will go into to a sink. With Wayfinder's idea of sending a weekly email to LL, our movement will not fall on deaf ears. We can discuss option "a" above to determine if we want any of our funds to be used in that way--it is not a bad idea in my mind. For now, we need to come up with a group name and design classy advertising to help spread our message--in world and to LL. I'll see you shortly. |

We had a spirited debate in-world last night between the three groups in attendance at the stipend protest party at Governor Linden's mansion. I hope we did not leave too many beer cans and party favors on the ground. Although the ground staff was accommodating, they did seem a little ticked off.
There were about 24 unique residents that made an appearance. The pro-stipend group had the most representatives followed by the anti-protest protesters. My favorite sign was created by an anti-protest protester. It had a picture of a kitten with lettering that said, "I hate everything!" The discussion was productive and cordial for the most part. Our nameless group (we need a name), was represented by Svar Beckersted, Rasah Tigereye, and myself. I realize that several of you wished you could have been in attendance. We thank you for the support! However, with the vocal utterings of some people on this forum calling for an end to stipends, I find it amazing that the three of us--and our supporters in spirit--were the only ones supporting our cause. We know that there are more people out there that feel as we do. Come help us find solutions. Needless to say, our group needs to be better organized. In my post above, I have suggested, based on several great ideas from others in this thread, three activities we can engage in now. It is also clear to me, that we need to hold an economic summit. I believe that our groups have more in common than most people realize and together we can help figure out acceptable solutions. Through sharing our viewpoints with others and by listening to the viewpoints of others, we can determine the appropriate courses of action to present to LL. |

Hi bloop i enjoyed our talk actualy i found you to be someone who is both rational and who likes to talk without well fighting. So believe it or not for the most part i found it fun in an odd sort of way but its very hard to hold discussions like that in spacial chat as it all gets garbled up at times. Good luck on your ventures with this I simply don't have the time or will to try to keep up I only feel that when it comes to this stuff people need to see that there are two sides to every story. I hope that both sides were seen.
I hope the ashes got put out and stuff dont want to start any brush fires |

Good luck on your ventures with this I simply don't have the time or will to try to keep up I only feel that when it comes to this stuff people need to see that there are two sides to every story. I hope that both sides were seen. I, too, enjoyed our talk. It took me several minutes to realize that you and I were talking to each other and most everyone else was lost in their own chat. Spatial chat is indeed an inefficient means of communicating with a group of that size. I truly believe that all sides (how many are there now?) for the most part have good intentions and are looking for the same results. I plan on contacting Coco to suggest that the two of us jointly hold a summit. I'm not sure when a summit will happen since I've also spent way too much time in the past week debating economic issues. (My wife is wondering if I've been permanently sucked into the virtual world.) Overall, though, I think it has been productive for everyone. By the way, I posted a reply to a post you made in another thread this morning. You hit on an issue that I think could be central to all of our babble: /130/c8/109347/2.html#post1066425 I hope to see you in world. I hope the ashes got put out and stuff dont want to start any brush fires I'm not sure but I think I saw a large plume of smoke rising from that general direction today. We may be fined! |

We held out first Stipend "burning" Party this morning at Gov. Linden's Mansion--nice place, by the way (although the pool needs more chlorine). Here's who showed up: Volunteering to Opt out of Stipends Svar Beckersted Bloop Cork S.O.S.--Save Our Stipends Cocoanut Koala Lewis Nerd Auriga Brissot And the ever popular Anti-protest Protesters! Memir Quinn Jillian Callahan No representative from LL was present; perhaps because they were given short notice. It was a civil discussion. We all agreed that the economy has issues that need to be addressed. The solutions, however, we did not agree on. However, it's a good start! I'll see those who wish to participate, tonight. Tomorrow is Stipend Tuesday (ST)! I can't wait to get my measly L$500 that are worth less than a cup of coffee, less than a movie rental, or almost less than half a gallon of gas.
For those who wish to show support for our VOLUNTEER opting out of stipends (did I mention this was volunteer?), we will meet once again for our Stip-end Rally at the same bat channel, same bat time: Location: Governor Linden's Mansion, a Sec, Clementina (182, 110, 61) Times: First Rally: 6 am SL time (PST). This is the same as 9 am EST Second Rally: 6 pm SL time (PST). This is the same as 9 pm EST The only three expectations of all participants are: 1. Discussions will be civil 2. You come with an open mind 3. You do your homework beforehand Basically, this is no different than going to school. I'll see you there. |
