I read the article, which is 5 years old by the way, and found nothing to support the 'problem' and how it relates to 'grabbing' any IP addresses.

There was this:

Outpost.com customers James Wynn noticed his order number was in his URL address. When he changed digits in the URL address, he was able to see other customers' orders."

But that has nothing to do with your IP address.

They're called IP numbers. Sometimes IPs. Or IPS plural people write hastily. I'm quite aware of that. This isn't an ignorance problem, as I wrote ages ago the spell-out of these ltters, INTERNET PROTOCOL. DUH.

They're also called ISP addresses. Internet Service Provider.

No dancing, no lying. You can keep pretending and trying to rewrite the truth, but I have answered you over and over again. You decided to jump on the alt bandwagon when you could not make anything else stick , but I covered that already by stating uequivocably what the IP addresses are used for.

By stating their only uses, it is also a statement that they are not used for anything else, including all the nefarious purposes you keep making up to achieve orgasm. I know you are sitting there thinking you caught me in something, but what you are in fact caught in is the noose of the mess you made around your own neck.

No they are not.

They are IP addresses only, they control IP routing between hosts. This actually means that an ISP does not ever be involved. IP addresses were assigned before ISP's even existed. The term dates back to the first TCP/IP-over-radio experiment in Hawaii in the early 1960's.

The article I cited -- it doesn't matter if it was from the year 2000, other articles like it could be found today -- talks about the misuse of these addresses (on the Internet, duh, not in RL buildings) and how fraud can be committed with them.
