Hopefully they will immediately freeze all assets in question.

I would hate to see someone thinking they are buying land legitimately from the person who .... stole / scammed / whatever word you want to use... the land and then boom, the lindens come in and take it back

Is the land frozen at least? What happens if the perp chops it to pieces and sells it to a dozen people? This is a LOT of money we're talking about, and it's clearly theft.

I say do everything by the numbers so the Linden Labs can have a chance to make this right. If they make it right (which ought to include permanent termination of the perp's accounts and a ban on all of her known credits card at the very least), then everything is okay and the Lindens are heroes.

However, if the Linden's say "Sorry, too bad", then you should see a Real Life attorney. That way you could at least recover your two thousand US dollars, and possibly force Linden Labs to make an extremely simple dialogue box, solving this exploit once and for all.

I don't think it is clearly theft at all. They put their land for sale at X price - whether they *meant* to or not isn't the point.

What we don't know from the original post is how long the wrong piece of land was on for sale for.

You can't actually steal land from people in SL afaik.

This is a very serious issue. I think there have been cases where mistakes like this were undone with Linden intervention, but you have to get on them IMMEDIATELY, and it has to REALLY be a "while I was working on the land somebody bought it" mistake.

If you set the price and then went away, discovering your mistake only when somebody bought the land at the price you set by mistake (i.e., hours or days later), then you are out of luck.

(Still I'm going to hotline this issue for you.)

It's theft in spirit, if not by the letter of the law.

I hope the Lindens move to rectify the situation. I cannot imagine doing something like that. Cheats and thieves deserve to be booted from SL altogether.

Well because when the sign off on one piece of the land and sign on on the next piece of land a few seconds later to buy the first piece of land you just parceled off, and then change back to the other account, Its a kinda give away.

I think the original poster was having an issue with the dividing/joining of land, which does do some very odd things. If you separate it or even join it it will keep the amount that the original piece of land was set to sale for the whole new area. It should not do this, this does not make any sense.. If the shape or amount of land changes it should automatically stop/uncheck itself from being on sale, this would prevent the issue that arises when separating and joining land that keeps the old stats of a piece of land. It really is complex and it does not make sense that new pieces of land retains older pieces information when you alter it. This really needs to be fixed. And if this did happen Sasi, she deserves her land back. I hope the lindens aren't really giving up on this... It wouldn't surprise me though. I lost my faith in humans a long time ago.

Buster it WAS A HUGE mistake......... sasi was sitting right there cutting up her land to sell. The absolute SECOND she clicked..... "the person" sent sasi money and it was a done deal before sasi could take a second breath. Sasi was LEARNING to begin with.... learning how to cut up her land to sell.

I believe they have been called on a few other occasions as the land has been cut up and put up for sale, one small pice already being sold, begging for the lindens to seize the land until dispute resolution takes place, but they dont seem to care, standard response seems to be its was legal, event thought the software is currently designed to enable a sale before the party realises it, due to other interface examples like when you enter music it doesnt start till you close the window. And then the cheek of it is that they even go and ban her from what is morally right her own land.

Sorry to say my secondlife is not becoming a place i feel comfortable being if i have to watch my back like this.

They can, they aren't breaking any rules. This was completely your mistake. While the person does seem to be an asshole, you are the only one at fault. I find it kind of funny to see you complain about a mistake you made while making someone else look bad.

The wrong thing would be to punish someone else for your mistake.

Ok, the person doesn't want to give your land back. It was your mistake and your fault. Nobody elses. All you can do is get over it and take this as a learning experiance.

Besides, your paying real cash for virtual plots of land, you were bound to get fucked sooner or later.

Well you've been using secondlife along time is that honestly your advice you give all newbies selling land for the first time, perhaps you should apply to be a mentor.
And why shouldnt someone complain if the software is presented in a misleading manner ending in financial loss, perhaps the software was purposely designed to do it this way, they like to add some grief to players and loss and stress as well as keep some cash to themselves, like how they dont bad alts for griefing, giving them warning after warning.

I guess money talks.

If anyone in upper managment has a HAIR ON THEIR ASS............they'll fix this.
Um...

YEAH!!!

OK... first things first... You should have used the Sell To option to set it for sale to your friend.

Second, I know perfectly damn well that LL has reversed land sales that took place because the seller made a mistake. I know a few people who have dabbled in the "land baron" game. Two of them used to sit there hitting F5 all day on the land-for-sale list. (It's on the website somewhere.) Whenever they saw inordinately cheap land, they'd swoop in and get it. The previous owner would say it was a mistake and ask for it back and of course they'd say no. Both people reported that Lindens had come in and reversed the transactions, and that they'd been suspended for doing it multiple times.

The thing to remember is that some people consider this all to be a game, and they will do whatever it takes to "win."

Sometimes things like this happen via bugs too. Last Friday I set my land for sale at the correct price. It was when everything was really buggy, in fact that very day I had 2 people buy land from me, I received the money, but the land didn't transfer. I of course set the land to sale for 0L to them. Anyway, I had set the land to the correct price, next thing I know I get an IM asking if I meant to set the land to 1L per m2!! Luckily it was Lecktor Hannibal (thnx again Lecktor :) ) and not the ****head in this case, and he set it back to sale to me.

Sometimes bugs happen. Sometimes people make mistakes. I don't envy LL for having to make decisions in these cases, it's just a shame that we have ***** like this person who put them in this position.

I hope you get your land back Sasi :)
