I own (owned) a 30,208sqm of land in Conistan...yesterday I had a friend over helping me divide the land. I sectioned off a 1120 sqm and was going to set price at 8,960. I accidently set the price on the large portion of land (30,208sqm) instead of the 1120 and immediately someone purchased it for 8,960 L$...which is worth over 2,000US$ !!!!!!!!! I told her it was an accident but she and her friend insisted it was a fair deal. Needless to say...I was extremely upset and a few harsh words were spoken and I am now being accused of abuse from this person. I contacted live support and a Linden came to the land and said I should file a report and try to work things out with this person. I filed the report and sent mail to Philip Linden (CEO)...have talked with other Lindens and nothing is being done. Today I log into SL and receive a message from 'this person' stating she has kept part of the land and has set 20,224 sqm for me to buy back at 20k and if I do not buy the remaining land she will sell it at a later time. I realize it was my mistake but I partially blame SL for the way the system is set up. I know several people have lost their land due mainly from the system set up. There should be some sort of conformation stating land and price before it actually goes up for sale. Mistakes can be made easily and there are plenty of people that take advantage of this. The 'Release Land' button should be addressed also....one click and you have lost your land. I am seeking legal advise on this issue...if anybody reading this can help me....please do !! I would like for others to post here if they have lost their land....this is not fair AT ALL. Please help

I know for a split second that can happen with the land tools give the lindens a little time to work it out I know they have helped ppl in the past when some big accidents happen. It's obvious you didn't mean to sell it. Would be nice if the person who bought it would just be decent and give it back to ya. Most ppl in sl are realy decent folks, I'm realy sorry this happened. It's happened before, and I believe the Lindens moderated that case, so I would hope they will at least try to resolve this one. Not much we can do to help, but you certainly have my sympathy. It's a shame that there are so many folks without honor in the world. I can only control my own actions, and I would have immediately sold you the land back for the price I paid for it, upon hearing it was a mistake. Unfortunately, far too many people can sleep soundly at night, despite being greedy, selfish and dishonorable.

From: Sasi Bomazi Please help The best "help" I can offer you is this: LEAVE NOW! It won't get better. You won't get your land back. Around these parts, taking land like this, exploiting mistakes such as this, is the norm. You won't get any help from the Lindens as this is the kind of post they maturbate over during board meetings. If you want to do anything "constructive" to rectify the situation, I suggest talking with your wallet, and telling Second Life "goodbye."

I have had this experience as well and you have my sympathy.
It is very easy, especially in high lag areas, to leave off a digit/make some other easy mistake that - for some reason - certain people are EXTREMELY quick to zero in on.
In my situation it was for an extremely small piece of land, so I basically told them to bugger off and chalked it up to experience.
In your situation I would try and follow through with an abuse report, given the amount of RL $$ it equates to.
A simple confirmation screen when making changes like these would help dramatically. If I had gotten a popup saying "Are you sure you want to set 512m2 for sale to anyone for $300?", I sure would have clicked "No" and corrected my mistake. I really have no idea why something like that hasn't been implemented yet, given all the situations like this that consistantly arise.

When a very similar thing happened to Lion Valentino, the Lindens helped out. And this is by no means the norm. Why would you even say that? Sure..it happens. Folks cheat..folks lie..and folks steal..but it really isn't the norm. There are still plenty of good folks in SL.

Crying Shame

OMG, Sasi! That is so unfair that there has to be people that live in this world without any morals. It just makes me sick to think your land went to a couple of heartless fools. I hope you reach some satisfaction over this. I am here rooting for you. What goes around comes around so they WILL get THEIRS! But I agree there should be some sort of confirmation that pops up when doing any kind of transaction of the sort. Love you Sasi girl! xo

If you want to do anything "constructive" to rectify the situation, I suggest talking with your wallet, and telling Second Life "goodbye." This is hogwash! I was invloved in a similar incedent a few weeks ago. It took time but the Lindens did get it sorted out. In my case though, the other party was more willing to help than seems to be the case here. The system really should include some form of protection against this. One thing that was done in the latest patch (possibly because of what happened to me) is that land set to sell for zero dollars can only be bought by a person specifically designated to buy that property. Wow, I don't remember the exact quantity of land this person lost, but if was worth over 2000 USD is must have been very expensive land! Was it near a telehub?

I don't know what Jarod's talking about. This happened to him twice back when we just released land we didn't want. Lindens intervened both times and told him that he could either give the land back, or they would release it so the original owner could have it back.
Have they changed this policy?
I am sorry this happened to you Sasi. Considering the name of the current owner, I doubt you'll get any better deal than they've offered. Their profile description asked people to be nice to them. Is that some kind of joke?

I sympathize with you Sasi. I DO however want very much to know the name of this person(s) involved. I'm not a griefer or anything like that, but I believe that I'd like to know that persons name in case I may have dealings with her in the future. IM me in world or I will IM you. Honestly it may be a small satisfaction but if someone screwed me like that I'd like others to be aware and BEWARE of that person.

I did a quick search through the Proposition section and didn't see anything about a Land Sales Notification Popup Thingie, so.... Vote yes on Prop 348!If this is a dupe of an existing proposal, please let me know and I'll retract this one.

I would do as the Lindens advised. File the AR.
While it may seem distressing that a few days will go by with little more than a robot email, trust me when I say, the Lindens will look at your situation. They are quite capable of determining the crux of the issue. They just need to dot the i's and cross the t's first.

Lindens.... Step Up To The Plate And Make This Right!!!!!!!
05-19-2005 12:55
This is simply W R O N G...........This isnt the first time I have heard of this happening. If anyone in upper managment has a HAIR ON THEIR ASS............they'll fix this. Too many customers pay TOO much money for something like this to happen. It's not fair nor is it RIGHT.

AWWWWW Sass *Huggs* It's a shame that someone would make a killing from your mistake but whats really sad is.... that person/persons are aware of the mistake and do not have the integrity to make it honest I'm a firm believer that there are more good than bad, you just had the misfortune of that 'bad' one taking an advantage of something that they knew had to be wrong I wouldn't give up yet on the Lindens

Ouch. That's a really horrid thing to have happen. I agree with the posters who say file an AR and let the Lindens arbitrate. There really should be a way to avoid this error (usability failure of the interface and functionality). Until there is, Linden Labs should help protect against this kind of thing.

As for your opinion David, well..well said and I agree. But, you know there are many types of people here those that treat others as they would like to be treated and those that don't give a damn and do as they please. I would have sold it right back as well for that reason, I wouldn't want that done to me. I wish you the BEST of luck in recovering what you can hun

That does bite hard! I remember having issues deeding my land to group when we did. I agree, give LL time, stuff like this can't be fixed in just a few minutes, unfortunately. And I'm sorry that you had to have dealings with someone obviously without empathy Kat

It really makes you think
05-19-2005 14:25
This kind of case when taken in with everything else really does make you think that is it really worth being a nice decent person on here, griefers get away with warning and silly 3 day bans, while they can still login with alt accounts, people can come along and basically steal land off you that you didnt intent to sell at a given price and totally get away with it, leaving your hard earnings totally gone while they can just get rich quick. I guess my faith is at an all time low and only one group of people can restore that, so lindens which way should i go the honest decent approach or join these people who seem to get the good deals and make money.
And in the end, just because something is technically legal or not it doesnt make it right, especially if the software is flawed enought to give a wrong impression.
At the moment the land tab is layed out saying i want to sell the land yes then you enter price, the user doesnt know that the land has already been put up for sale as soon as they tick the box, most functions in that window like land name activate when you close the window. Talk about not helping to protect someones assets. and then there is not even a dialogue box.
Come on lindens, do the decent thing.
