Moopf's network connected bubble gum machine is one of my favorite things in SL.

Got that, too.

Cynical dismissal....air of superiority...disparaging remarks...It is all here in the SL forums. Forum critics who spend their time perusing the forums, ready to fire unsolicited attacks, while getting who knows what thrill out of doing that. Some forum critics spend more time reading about SL in the forums, and then offering criticism, than they do experiencing SL inworld.

Ok forum critics, so eager to deride the efforts of others, here is a question for you:

What content have you given to the SL community? What is your contribution? By given I dont mean what do you sell for your own material profit, I mean what contribution have you made for the pure pleasure and entertainment of the SL community.

Some members have brought incredible content and creativity to SL without any monetary motivation. An incredible build; a fun game; creative use of features, just for the entertainment and pleasure of the community. Let's acknowledge them.

helping noobs always :) , helping on community projects without compensation, helping friends with projects, toyz :D, Fairy Village, Chicago, The gamers sim, Grigiono's Ice Cream Parlor, teaching in general, and now the RFL project with Jade. Off the top of my head :)

Whales and elephants. Naked surfing might be my invention too. Not surfing, only doing it naked.

My very presence in SL serves as a grim reminder about the dangers of nose-picking.

... Are those things less important as a contribution to SL because I or someone else profited? ....
IMO, yes.
By definition they are less of a contribution.
If there was not money to be made, you would not have done it.

I've brought my laughter, via the airwaves, to SL. Oh yeah, and some music interspersed.

*Blushes a deep crimson* Why thank you, Anito. You should grace SL with your voice more often, it's not nice to hide such talent. ;)

Aw Nimue! Please don't be discouraged. Could you print the URL of your silly blog, please?

Um... splashable water? Splashable waterfall? Gobs of li'l scripts I've made for people for free? Does that give me the right to deride now? Have I asked too many questions in one post? Don't you know I ran out of periods and exclamation points and have to ask questions 'till next stipend?

nothing.

Modesty doesn't suit you.

Jake's Parthenon is a beautiful and detailed build which definitely deserves a spot in the contribution column.

Um, let's see...

Tireless work as a mentor, instructor, and occasional event host.

Preserving parts of Isere, Cottonwood and Derwent to provide a residential space within the natural landscape as originally designed by LL, for as long as I was able.

Helping newcomers through the task of finding the best First Land for them.

Supporting a wide variety of events held by others, through attendance, participation and inviting new players.

Taking time off from the forums (and game) in lieu of making critical, jaded or dismissive posts.

Enough?

hmm.. Well.. I have done Fashion Shows for many designers free of charge in order to help showcase different talents in SL. I have hosted many events in the past that were for fun times (no profit).. I used to be a mentor, but even after leaving the group, I will forever be someone that will seek to help new residents as much as I am able. I'm involved with the Neualtenburg project, which I think brings a very unique environment to the SL world. hmm.. Oh, I used to bring a lot of porn (scaling back to make a classy erotic art gallery using SL artists - non-profit gallery) and I posed naked in the centerfold of the very first Erogenous Zone magazine (for free! ;) )!! :D :o

hehe.. Hopefully I have also brought some happiness in the form of friendship to many of the wonderful people I've had the pleasure of getting to know in SL! :)

This is not true. I was just reading all of that help (serious and not) that you gave to people. *That* is something. :)

Now that is some imagination! I love the "Goodbye Maury" picture! I'm livin it, breathin it, lovin it.

As to the original post here, I'm reading and thinking, yeah, yeah! Then I'm thinking, wait, she wouldn't be meaning ME, would she? And then, nah, she means all those other jerks! I figure everybody will read it this way. Thus, there is NOBODY she is actually speaking to in it, lol!

And Angel has a point. One need not have either earned or not earned money for what they have done to be considered a contribution. It's also not accurate to say that if one hadn't been paid for doing something, one would not have done it. Getting paid is, usually, just the gravy.

coco

P.S. Jake contributes to my SL merely by existing.

Gave it my best effort to try to help develop the SL Economic infrastructure.

The rest of the story is history, yet to be written.

It's all perfect!

:) :p

One wonders if in the zeal to make the SL economy fit the conservative work ethic, if the people who come to SL to have fun have been left behind?

She's right. My inventory is filled with her stuff - cause I can afford it! And I like the stuff, too! Just as nice as any high-priced things, if you ask me.
